"I initially sent you to Japan as a test," Valentin continued, his tone unwavering. "A test on two fronts. The first was to see the caliber of the kind of man you are. After all, you didn't have to accept the request. And the second reason was to confirm what Melvin said about you."

"And what was that?" Prince asked, leaning slightly forward, intrigued yet wary.

"That you would do anything to further your goals. Without question. Without asking for a coin. Without hesitation. You immediately set out for Japan. That told me you were not a man to deliberate endlessly but rather one who was entirely focused on your objectives. So much so that even the slightest advantage, the slightest rapport with even one Duke, would mean the world to you."
