Chapter Fifty-Five – What Are You Guys Waiting For? Grab a Weapon!

While the three teams struggled to make their way inside the building, The Dr. Sarah Ragdear I was falling into despair outside.

As soon as the agents entered the building, she lost all contact with the three units, following the protocol she contacted the BPD and requested support, unfortunately the support would take hours to arrive. Sarah was not alone, she had about five soldiers with her, plus two church members, they had been left behind to provide support.

As soon as contact was lost, the soldiers tried to invade the building as well as their predecessors, but the doors proved insurmountables, even the attempt to blow up the doors using explosives proved to be useless.

To make the matters worse, about an hour after losing contact with the soldiers, Sarah received reports of armed groups causing chaos in the city, non-human armed groups.

Sarah was on the verge of a nervous breakdown, she was not a field agent, she was a doctor with magnificent skills in medicine and a scientist whose level of knowledge was higher than or equivalent to the best scientists on Earth, it also helped that she was born a high level technopath and can could control machines and access the internet with her own mind.

Sarah loved her skills, the ability to access so much information made her learn incredibly fast, and she became a child prodigy, at age six she found out about the BPD before they found out about her, she made her presence known and volunteered to be one of they scientists and she was readily accepted. She had been working for twelve years at the Bureau, where she had access to the best machines in the world and she could experiment and enjoy her powers to the full.

Sarah was also treated in a way that lived up to her name, having entered the Burial at an early age and having grown up surrounded by older scientists, she was always spoiled by them, being treated like a little princess, and it was her custom to always had her wills accepted.

Luckily the girl didn't have any absurd desires, just the occasional childish wish that contrasted with her great intelligence, but which caused the scientists to smile and had happy faces, she was a small ray of light in the middle of the darkness of dealing with so many monsters. But Sarah ended up growing, although the scientists still saw her as that same little girl, she wanted to show that she had already matured, so she offered to start participating in field missions, serving as support for the agents, it was after much discussion that her request was accepted, but the BPD still held her capabilities in high regard and so she was always sent on low-risk missions.

Sarah's patience had reached the limit, she wanted to show her skills and to do that she used her skills to get a nomination for this mission, she knew that the pair Durrand and Garrard always got involved in the best, and dangerous, missions of all, when the Burial became aware of her mischief she was already in the field with the two and her leaders found themselves with no choice but to let her live her will, maybe so she finally calmed down and went back to the labs after this end's.

Unfortunately for her, she ended up biting down a little more than she could swallow, she should have gone home as soon as she found out about the existence of the apocalypse cultists in this town, but like the others she had underestimated the cultists, and now her little team it was all she had to defend herself.

Now Sarah was scared, her skill was powerful, she could control technology with a single thought, create battalions of robots and tech-level weapons that would make futuristic sci-fi movies look outdated, but the problem is: Sarah can't kill.

Sarah's abilities went much further than controlling machines, she connected with them on a quantum spiritual level, her thoughts and soul related in an inexplicable mode when she uses her powers and, in a way, she didn't build new machines, she gave birth to them.

Sarah's machines were eternally linked to her, she felt them as if they were living things, to which she had a psychic and emotional connection.

When Sarah was ordered to create a weapon she did it without any difficulty, but when that weapon was used against a prisoner selected was a test subject, the shock of killing someone nearly drove the girl mad. Even if someone else pulled the trigger, for Sarah it was like killing someone with her bare hands.

Since that day the Bureau leadership vetoed any way to use her skill in a militarized way, which was no big loss, as they already had the best scientists in the world building their weapons.

Sarah needed years of psychological treatment to get rid of the emotional scars, but they did, the girl then focused on research and medicine, creating the best possible equipment for Bureau.

The idea of having to use her skills to fight, even with her life on the line, made Sarah's stomach start to lurch, she just couldn't, but even if she couldn't fight she could save people.

"We need to regroup! We need the help of city police to create a line of defense!" Sarah shouted orders to her soldiers. "Get back to our vehicle, we need to find Captain Moongraves!"

Sarah and her five soldiers, along with the two clerics, got into the huge mechanical truck, which screeched through the night, the vehicle traversing the once-silent night city that was now filled with the noise of explosions and the din of battle.

Sarah looked through the surveillance screens at the situation in the city, it was very close to dawn and the police were exchanging shots against a bunch of Orcs and other monsters, who ignored the bullets and continued to break everything around the city, Sarah noticed that the monsters didn't they seemed to be directly attacking people, just causing a lot of confusion, as if their goals were to create a big scene.

All monitors were turned on at the same time and Sarah's eyes glowed blue, she saw all the information at the same time without any difficulty, she could see the strange movement of the monsters and all their clashes against the police.

Journalists from various channels were desperate, recording the news as if it were the end of the world, little did they know that all their news was automatically filtered by their own stations, which drowned out the stories and hid the details, in the end, whatever happened that night it would be aired with the most diverse explanations, all far from the truth.

People were also desperate, citizens being driven from their homes by the police, led away from the mess, under the gaze of monsters who didn't seem to care, letting people escape while limiting their destruction to objects and homes.

"This will take a lot of work to hide later..." Sarah sighed, the number of people who had witnessed the monsters was huge, luckily the country's waters were full of remotely controlled amnesiacs and the memory of normal people could be easily rewritten, they would likely cover the events as originating due to an unexpected natural disaster, the population would suffer to rebuild but would remain safe in their ignorance, unaware of the darkness that pervades the world.

Sarah accessed every camera in the city at high speed, traffic cameras, cell phones, nothing was free of her power, she finally found what she was looking for. "I found her! I'm sending Captain Moongraves location to the main navigation system, hurry up, Jason! The police are in combat with a group of monsters!" she screamed. "It's a unit of Orcs! It's... It's Varfu! It's Varfu the Ancient Orc! He's surrounding Captain Moongraves team!"

"Damn mercenaries! If he's here, his son shouldn't be far away!" The agent at the wheel responded, stepping deeper on the gas.

"I don't see Vergu with his father, there are few of them! But the police don't have enough equipment to last a long battle!"

The Agent at the wheel yelled, he upped the gear and made the truck accelerate even more, the huge vehicle roared like a wild beast as it picked up speed, crisscrossing the streets like a huge moving mass of furious metal.

The cops soon came into view, firing nonstop at the group of green giants, who smiled as they walked slowly towards them, ignoring the fire as if it were toy bullets.

The driver guided the truck towards the Orcs, he had awakened his sadistic inner self, and he didn't think twice about running them over with his metal beast.

The orcs noticed the arrival of the huge truck, but not all of them were quick enough to get out of the way, the agent at the wheel laughed like crazy as he made a 'strike', hitting three of the slower Orcs. The truck was a special high powered vehicle, its front bumper hit the Orcs hard and even these mighty supernatural beasts were torn apart.

With three of the orcs out of the game, the truck's back door flew open, the four agents came out armed, firing wildly, while Sarah and the clerics ran toward the wounded officers.

The driver joined his comrades in the firefight, the Orcs smiled at the arrival of the Bureau agents, 'finally someone who will at least fight back' they thought, they sought cover and pulled out their own modern weapons, responding fire with fire.

"Captain Moongraves!" Sarah yelled. "We've come to equal the battle!"

A two clerics threw the huge duffel bags they were carrying in the middle of the police, opening them, the suitcases were full of high-level weapons from the BPD, Azaleah looked at the weapons and her expression curved into a slight smile, she grabbed one of the rifles and she analyzed it quickly, it was lighter than she'd expected for a weapon that size.

"What are you guys waiting for? Grab a weapon!" Azaleah yelled, her cops began handing out the weapons, and while they weren't enough for everyone, it was more than enough to make some difference.

The police agents shouted and joined the five agents hiding behind the overturned vehicles in the streets and they fired at the Orcs.

"Are any police injured?" Sarah questioned Azaleah, the captain shook her head and ran with Sarah and the two clerics away from the combat, they both trusted their companions and left the Orc situation in their hands, soon Sarah arrived at police headquarters, right in the center of the city when the sun began to rise.

As soon as she arrived at the central, Sarah saw a huge number of injured police's, not only police's but firefighters, traffic agents, security professionals etc., practically everyone who could carry a weapon had been 'activated' due to the unusual situation, and now the place was crowded with the wounded.

"Let's help the wounded!" Sarah said, she opened the backpack she was carrying and two spheric drones flew from it, they started to scan people and soon she could see who needed immediate help, she started dividing people in order of need, directing the worst cases to the two clerics use their thaumaturgy.

The healing process through miracles was amazing but time-consuming, that's why Sarah's role proved essential, she made the clerics focus on the worst cases while she provided first aid to the least needy, Azaleah helped her.

"The city center is in chaos! It seems that the monsters decided to end the world!" Azaleah spoke with a worried expression as she held a leg that Sarah was bandaging. "What is happening? They've never been this direct!"

"The situation is too complicated even for us right now!" Sarah replied. "Bureau will send more support as soon as possible! We just need to hang on a few more hours!"

"We're going to need everyone by the way! The army, navy and air force too!" A policeman yelled.

"AZALEAH!" A male voice called.

Azaleah and Sarah turned to see a middle-aged man with a marvelous mustache walk through the door, the man carrying a shotgun in his hands and being followed by a beautiful young black woman.

"Joseph! Aliyha!" Azaleah hugged them both. "What are you doing here?"

"We had to come! I may not know what's going on but I won't leave my wife alone! I fought in Vietnam! Whatever is threatening our city, I will face it with you!" Joseph replied.

"You spent a month in the Vietnam before the war ended Joseph!" Azaleah joked "And you've never been involved in any combat!"

"Hey! I still got the training!" Joseph responded with a smile.

"You big silly bear…" Azaleah walked over and kissed her husband on the mouth.

"Er, I'm here too!" Aliyha commented.

"Ali? why didn't you go to a shelter?" Azaleah questioned.

"Hey mom! We spent all that time with you teaching me how to shoot... I thought this was the time to put it in practice!"

"Oh my God... wait, where's Hanna?"

"So... about that... Hanna kind of stole my car and went crazy on the streets a few seconds before this all happened, she said she had one of those dreams and needed to find Locke..."

"Damn it! We need-"

Before Azaleah finished a body went through the glass doors, falling into the lobby next to a pile of broken glass, Sarah recognized the body even with the technological helmet that covered the face, she recognized the eletronic sign of the costume, it was the driver of the truck, Jason.

"Damn, they're already here! Jason! Are you ok?" Sarah ran to the fallen agent, miraculously he was still alive, with only four broken limbs.

"ANYONE WHO CAN HOLD A GUN, BE READY!" Azaleah yelled. People dragged the wounded out of the entrance and prepared to face the threat, several people pointing to the broken doors, towards the group of green giants outside.

"But what in God's name are these things? I am getting crazy? Are they aliens?" Aliyah questioned as she watched the green giants outside, their mouths with huge fangs curling into sneers.

"They are Orcs!" Sarah replied.

"Orcs? like, Orcs? Like The Lord of the R*ngs ones? Are you serious?" Aliyah looked at her incredulous.

"Exactly! A barbarian race whose origin is widely discussed, some think they came from Scandinavia, others think they came from Germania, I personally think they originate from other dimensions... regardless of their place of origin, they are a big problem !"

Aliyah watched the woman who must be younger than her with an expression of confusion for a moment, there was a limit to how much unbelievable information she could digest at once, finally she turned to her mother and asked for a gun.

"It's no use, the weapons we have aren't strong enough to handle these things!" Azaleah replied. "All the heavy weaponry was taken by my squads that are fighting on the city! I... I don't know how we're going to stop them!"

Chapter 55 Extra - Organizations Description

The Bureau of Paranormal Defense - The BPD

The Bureau of Paranormal Defense, or BPD, is a secret organization created and trusted by governments around the world to contain, study and, if necessary, eliminate abnormal and supernatural individuals and entities that defy the laws of nature and that may pose a threat for human beings or for humanity's sense of reality and normality.

The existence of the supernatural is kept under wraps by the BPD and the world's governments, with the aim of preventing mass panic and chaos, and allowing human civilization to function normally. When a supernatural incident occurs, the BPD sends its agents to analyze the threat and deal with it, either capturing it and directing it to the Sanctuary, or to the facility itself, where they proceed with research on the individual.

The BPD also sometimes takes on the role of executor, eliminating supernatural threats when necessary, as well as fighting organizations that aim to take advantage of the supernatural world to endanger humanity.

It is not uncommon for BPD agents or members to be beings of supernatural origin, possess supernatural abilities, or are practitioners of magic.

The Bureau was born during World War II, when the Nazis began to militarize supernatural creatures and use magic in war, the world's governments were forced to create a specific body to deal with this type of threat, since then the BPD has become the main defense organ of humanity, although its existence is a great secret.

The BPD has close links with three other world organizations linked to the paranormal: the Sanctuary, the Shrine and the Archive.
