Visiting the library part 2

The librarian looked at James with narrowed eyes, who did this brat think he was? The sly smile remained plastered on his face, though, as he asked in a rather loud voice "10,000 years ago, who were the three people who led the exploration to the edge of the universe?"

His loud voice attracted the attention of a few readers around the library who were looking on and watching the show.

James looked up into the old mans wrinkled eyes, "an old man like you doesn't even know such a simple fact" said James mockingly, he then calmly stated "the three leaders of the exposition were 'Racheal Raven', 'Lucas Clyde' and 'Brent Lawson'"

James then turned around quickly and continued scanning through the books on that shelf.

A few laughs could be heard from the onlookers as the old librarian was now a statue, frozen with embarrassment.

After several hours James had finally scanned every book in the library. He had managed to get through so many books thanks to his skill levelling up after reading around one hundred books.

[Book scanning (lv2): This feature allows the host to touch books while the system scans all of the data within. The system will then inject all information directly into the hosts memory where it can be recalled naturally. The skill can be levelled up by repeated use]

The upgraded book scanning skill had been very helpful during this time and allowed James to get through every book in the library; he now had basic knowledge of this world ingrained into his memory. From what James learned in the library, Oreson is a city of mortals. In this world, mortals are seen as ants in the eyes of the cultivators and they really ever visit places like Oreson unless a talented child has been born. The closest sect is the blossoming flower sect, they are only a small sect but still seen as giants in the eyes of the mortals in Oreson. Their sect is located on a nearby mountain range- the golden peaks.

'Status' James thought, eager to check weather his rewards had been properly received. The blue transparent screen immediately popped up in front of him.

'close' commanded James now satisfied with his updated status.

After gaining all of the knowledge he needed, James set off to leave the library. Without a place to go, James was about to ask Idros for a new quest when the sound of his stomach rumbling echoed throughout the quiet room. 'Guess I'll find something to eat first' he thought as he hurriedly left the library, his cheeks bright red with embarrassment.

Once he was outside of the library, James thought deeply about what he could eat when he didn't even have any money.

That moment, something caught his eye. A round gold coin was laying on the pavement floor. "Money!" James gasped as he quickly swept down and stuffed the coin into the large pocket of his pants, looking around to make sure nobody noticed. he then jogged over towards the bakery on the opposite side of the road, which he remembers having a good rating in one of the books he scanned.

'Ding' a bell rang as James swung the bakery door open, alerting the old woman at the counter that someone had entered the shop. As she turned her head to greet the customer, she immediately clicked her tongue in disgust after seeing his appearance. "Another beggar." she mumbled as she looked at James with a fake smile.

James returned an equally fake smile as he approached the counter and gawked at the selection of food. The delicately glazed cinnamon roll particularly stood out to James, reminding him of his favourite food back in his past life. His mouth was now watering since he couldn't wait to sink his teeth into the soft pastry, making him look like even more of a beggar.

Wiping the saliva from his lips with the coarse fabric of his sleeve, he returned his gaze to the shopkeeper and placed his order "Can I have four cinnamon buns plea-" before he could finish his sentence he was cut off.

"And how are you going to afford that, beggar?" the old woman asked in an unsympathetic tone.

Slightly pissed off with how long it was taking to get his food, James slammed the gold coin against the wooden counter, shocking the woman.

Without saying another word, the old woman accepted the coin and returned several silver pieces in return along with a brown paper bag containing four glazed cinnamon rolls. 'Ding', he rushed out of the bakery without saying another word, the bell ringing on his way out.

Besides the small bakery was a dry stone wall which James comfortably perched himself on, drooling as he looked down at the paper bag in his hands. The white glaze on the roll kept his fingers firmly attached as he lifted it up towards his mouth. His teeth sank through the moist dough; each lightly spiced ball melting in the back of his mouth. The sweet glaze contrasting the savoury cinnamon roll, making for the perfect combination. It was just like he remembered it.

The first roll was gone within a few seconds; James' hand dipped straight back into the depths of the brown paper back, fishing up another one. He was lost in his own world, until the brown bag was launched from his hands, scattering the rolls across the street.
