That familiar girl

~~~JARED'S POV~~~
"Are you sure you don't need us to send you reinforcement over there?"
It was my comrade, Rico, worrying about me for no reason.
"We can't do that. We can't afford to risk having our numbers known by them."
I told him flatly and he found himself unable to retort my words because he knew well enough that I am just stating a matter of fact.
As time passed by, I and the rest of my fellow fallen angels were slowly losing our prowess. While the demons, on the other hand, were getting stronger; not to mention that their number was also growing steadily.
Staying in this godforsaken realm was not ideal for us because this world was simply tainted. Being exposed to this place and staying here for an extended period of time made us weak.
On the contrary, demons used to feed with the negative energy so this was a favorable environment to them.
As I looked behind me I expected to see the possessed guy on my tow.
We already had a physical altercation back at the parking lot. I managed to injure him but he also got me.
He probably thought that I was trying to flee, but the truth was that I am deliberately luring him to step on our territory. Because once we stepped inside it, I will become relatively stronger compared to my usual self.
However, when realization dawned on me, dread clouded my feature. Because when I turned around to check my back, the demon was nowhere to be found!
"Godammit!"
I hissed in frustration when I realized that I lost our guy.
"What's happening over there? Jared, are you alright? Get on standby, I'll send someone over there right away. No! I will go there myself."
Rico's voice registered on our radio again.
That guy was surely a worrywart. If I have not known better, I would probably suspect that I am his son.
"If you sent me a backup and it turned out that there was more of us in one location, we might leak too much aura and attract more demons in this area. Now, we don't want them to come after us all at once, right? "
"But would you be alright?"
He asked me for the umpteenth time; the edge of concern from the tone of his voice when he asked that question was clear for all ears to hear.
"Come on, buddy. Don't you trust me? The guy was just possessed, nothing to worry about. Even five of them combined is not enough to take me down. He was just lucky. You know how beginner's luck only lasts for a short period of time."
I told him reassuringly as I injected my voice with the most conceited undertone that I could ever muster.
But then in the middle of our conversation, I heard a girl's scream; and right at the bat I knew it, Mr. Possessed has something to do with that.
"HEEEELP!!! Please, someone, help me!"
The shout for help sounded desperate as though the other party's life depended on it.
"Send back up right away. A mortal was in danger."
I ordered Rico from the other line and I knew right then that I had to act fast. So I no longer dallied and picked up my pace. I went in the direction where the voice was coming.
When I got there, I saw the guy towered over a girl. He was also holding a pipe in his left hand, and I am not sure where he got it but its tip has a bloodstain.
When I looked at the girl lying on the floor, I found that her hair was a complete mess. I thought I was too late and that she was already dead. But then I saw her moved her pinky finger.
She desperately crawled away from her assailant, putting as much distance between her and the guy.
The possessed guy on the other hand seemed rather entertained by the sight of the struggling human so he deliberately stepped at the other party's back to halt her advances.
It was at that point that I decided that I could no longer watch idly and wait for things to unfold before my eyes. So before my reinforcement could even arrive I already exposed myself to the open.
"Choose your opponent, dickhead!"
I bellowed to the guy and without giving him a chance to process what was about to happen next, I sent him a flying kick straight to his annoying face.
I did not give him a breather though, because as soon as my fit connected to his face and I landed on the ground, I allowed one of my legs to went straight between his legs. I hit him on the spot where it hurts the most.
I winced in pain for him. I felt quite sorry for his plight. It would surely hurt a lot. At worst, this might be the end of his generation as well.
The pain made the other party bent over. He was just about to retaliate when my reinforcement came one after another.
He was startled when he that there were five of us and he was just alone. We completely outnumbered him this time, so he tried to escape.
My comrades ran after him, but I was left standing on the same spot, unmoving.
Apparently, the girl that was attacked by the possessed guy was tagging at the hem of my pants.
I kneeled beside her and turned her over so that she would be lying on her back. But as I stared at her face, I could not help but think that she somewhat looked familiar.
It was just that I could not exactly put my finger where I first met her.
"Cassie! Where are you?!!!!"
I heard another female voice arriving. From how it seemed to me, it looked like that the other girl was looking for this injured girl.
'Good then'
I thought as I hurriedly left the scene.
