"Damn you, little rat!"
The guy hissed and let go of Cassie. He was caught off guard when she suddenly stabbed him in the eye.
Cassie, on the other hand, used this opportunity to escape. She hurriedly picked herself up and ran as fast as her feet could take her.
Her assailant happened to be standing and blocking the door, not to mention that it was also the only exit that they have in the store.
So rather than taking chances, Cassie ran in the opposite direction instead and headed to the back door where the kitchen was.
She planned to lure him inside the kitchen and dashed back to the door once the other party was away from it.
As expected, the guy with the face of a skull chased Cassie all the way to the kitchen.
Cassie on the other hand dock her head and keep her movements low.
Due to her position, she could not exactly see where her assailant was. The only thing that confirmed that they were indeed in the same room was the sound of the other party's footsteps.
But then, it stopped.
Everything went still and the place was plunged into a deafening silence.
'Phew...'
Slowly, Cassie tried to exhale as quietly as possible. The moment of silence allowed her to have a breather. But then out of nowhere, a hand grabbed her from above!
"AGH!!!!!!!!"
Cassie screamed at the top of her lungs.
The good thing was that the man only grabbed her apron so she took it off right away and picked up her pace once again, this time running towards the door.
The man ran after her until Cassie was out of the store. She crossed the street without bothering to look at the traffic light. She also did not dare look back out of fear that she would see the skull-faced man right behind her.
The next thing she knew, she heard tires screeching, long and loud horning of a car; then a sound of passing car hitting something solid.
The man was about to catch up with Cassie but he happened to be hit by a car. From that point onward, everything happened in slow motion from Cassie's perspective.
As she turned around to check what was happening behind her, she saw the accident unfolding before her eyes.
She watched as the body of her pursuer flew in the air, bounced on the bumper of the car, and then roll to the ground.
"Holy cow!"
The driver squealed when she realized what she has done and when she emerged out of her car, she turned out to be Cassie's friend, Ana.
Little by little, Ana made her way towards the guy lying in the pool of his own blood.
She turned him around and saw his bloody face staring back at her. They locked eye contact for a few seconds and then the man closed his eyes and breathed his last.
Ana was momentarily put in a trance, she rose to her feet, panting.
"Ana?"
Cassie approached her, still catching her breath.
"Oh my gosh. Are you okay?"
She asked her friend who looked like she was in a state of shock.
"Ana are you hurt? Say something!"
Cassie urged her to speak when she did not hear a reply from Ana.
"He just ran out in front of me."
"Shhh.. I know, I know.."
Cassie said softly as she framed Ana's face with her hand so she could make her look at her eyes instead.
"Everything is gonna be okay. I promise."
"I think he is dead."
Ana replied with her voice quivering in emotion. From the current looks of it, she seemed to be on the verge of breaking down so Cassie enclosed the other party to her embrace.
She hugged her and stroke her back in a comforting manner.
"It's not your fault."
She mumbled as Ana rested her head on her shoulders and almost buried her face into Cassie's neck.
In the darkness, with only the glow from the moon to light their surrounding, the two girls hugged each other. But then when the moonlight hit Ana, it revealed a cunning smirk pasted on her face.
