Ana ran after her and she was swiftly catching up. Cassie realized that with their current pace, it would only take a matter of time before Ana would catch her again and the exit was still a flight of stairs away so she have to make her mind quick.
Right then and there, Cassie abandoned the idea of leaving the premises using the door downstairs, and instead, she headed to the bathroom and locked herself inside.
She almost jumped on her feet when Ana banged on the door.
Cassie could see clearly how the other party's fist was making a dent on the metal door every time she rammed on it and with every 'Bang!' on the door, Cassie would also take a step back until she reached the corner and she felt the cold wall pressing against her back.
"What is happening to me, Cassie? I'm scared."
The ramming on the door suddenly stopped and when Cassie heard the familiar voice of her friend was back, tears started to stream down from her eyes. But at the same time, she covered her mouth as well with her hands to stop herself from making any sound.
"Why did I try to hurt you? Why would I do that?"
Ana sounded genuinely confused and Cassie almost get fooled by it. Slowly, she approached the door and leaned to it. She tried to listen for any movement coming from the other side.
"This is not you."
With her voice quivering with emotion, Cassie told her dear friend those words. She badly wanted to comfort the other party; to hug her. She wanted to reassure her. But at the same time, she did not know how she could explain the situation to Ana.
"Then what is happening to me? I don't know what to do. I need your help. Please..."
Ana sounded a lot calmer this time and Cassie was just about to reach out to the doorknob when Ana started to relentlessly turn the knob again to get the door to open.
"Open the door, Cassie."
Cassie jumped on her feet when Ana started pounding against the door again. She returned at her initial spot at the corner and watched the door slowly fall apart
"Open the fvcking door!"
Her friend continued and scolded her at the top of her lungs. But Cassie did not allow that to distract her. She looked around the bathroom for any possible escape route.
"Open the door, you little bitch!"
Meanwhile, for each time she spoke, Ana became more aggressive. The veins on her neck also started bulging and using the strength of only one hand, she was able to pull the entire door out of its frame.
But then when she got inside, Cassie was no longer there. At the same time, the window was left wide open and it allow the air from outside to come in; moving the curtains and making it dance as the wind blew.
When Ana tried to look below, Cassie was also nowhere to be seen.
She managed to escape.
