You can have all the cherries you want

Meanwhile, I heard Cassie ask me with a serious tone.

"So how do we get this demon off of my friend?"

"You have to perform an exorcism."

I answered shortly.

"What about Ana? What would happen to her?"

I heard the edge of concern in her voice and I so I could not find the heart to break the cold news to her and reveal what could possibly the other life that her friend was living behind her back. What I did instead was I tried to avoid making eye contact with her as I gave her a vague answer.

"Well, yeah... Err.. she should be fine."

I tried to sound as affirmative as I could.

But if the truth would be told, whenever demon slayers perform an exorcism, we could not care anymore whether the host would die or not in the process of expelling the demon out from the body and vanishing them into existence. Because most likely than not, those demon skins had long turned into bloody murderers or serial killers already by the time we got out hands on them.

However, Cassie seemed to notice my uncertainty so she pounded her fist on the table,

"Will she be okay or not?!"

From how she sounded, it seemed that putting her friend's life on the line was out of option.

"Get it right and she would be fine."

I replied and played it safe as much as I could. At the same time, I deliberately tried to shift the responsibility to her, just in case something goes awry.

"Knock on the wood!"

I added afterward. But when I tried to knock on our table, I realized that it was not actual wood.

"Oops! Oh no, my bad. I think this one is a laminate."

I clicked my tongue as I commented. I tried to dampen the tension building up but it seemed that Cassie was not in the mood. She was more interested in this exorcism thing that I just mentioned and from how it looked like, I could see that she was eager to perform it to her friend.

"What does an exorcism involve?"

She asked with both of her face and voice devoid of any emotion.

What a bold little girl she was to think about performing something she had never done before. Let alone say, foolish. If I must say.

Since she technically knew nothing about what she was signing herself for.

No wonder, demons could easily lure humans into committing a mortal sin despite having full knowledge of its gravity and understanding well enough, the risks that came hand in hand with this action.

They sure were gullible.

"Stuff on the internet."

I replied briefly and I saw her knit her eyebrows together the moment she heard my answer, so I felt the need to support my claim.

"It is out there. If you know where to look."

I added afterward but she did not seem to be taking my words seriously. The crease that appeared on her forehead the first time she heard me only deepened further. She was probably not expecting to hear that the solution to her 'what seemed to be a paranormal problem' was only one click away.

"I mean it."

I insisted, and for a while, we were just on a staring contest. However, it did not take that long for the conviction in my eyes to convince her to believe me. After seeing that I was not kidding, she let out an exasperated sigh.

"By the way, I am sorry for what I said about people not wanting to call you back."

She sounded sheepish again and I nodded my head to show that I understand.

"You thought I was totally crazy but now that you are freaking out, you suddenly need my help."

I insinuated all the while crossing my arms over my chest. But to be honest, I really don't mind. In fact, if not for her bringing that up, I would not recall it anymore.

However, at the same time, I believed that there was no harm in playing hard to get every once in a while. So I pretended like I was still a bit offended by how she treated me last time.

"I could still remember the look on your face when you learned that I am on my way to see a therapist. I deserved better."

"You are right. I should not have treated you like that."

She seconded me right off the bat and watching how obedient she was, I stuck my nose in the air and agreed to her as well.

"Yes, you should have not."

"Please? I can't leave Ana like that."

At this point, I craned my neck and asked her; I was close to agreeing.

"Is that like a pretty please with a cherry on top?"

"By all means, you can have all the pleases and cherries you want, just... I don't think I can do this by myself; I need you."

She rebutted and I can see the eagerness in her eyes, so I finally relented and gave my word that I am going to help her in solving the problem at hand

"Okay then. I am up for it. Let us exorcise that dummy out your friend's body."
