JAUNE ARC POV
He took in the smell of the Venison being grilled at the Barbecue and let out a sigh of contentment.
At times like these, he wondered how he could ever be satisfied by ordinary food if he ever lost the Faerie Feast power.
The 10 points he spent on it were definitely worth it.
He picked the Venison with his finger, the fire of the barbecue nowhere near hot enough to even singe the hair on his hands.
He put all the meat on the serving plate and took it to his girls who were lounging around on a dining table they had brought out from the Dining room.
He could see Raven and Yang sitting on the opposite sides of the table and smiled to himself.
Yang was now at least able to tolerate her mother's presence.
That was progress.
Not enough to get him a mother/daughter pair in his bed but enough that they were no longer arguing with each other all of the time, which was good.
He served the Venison to everyone and then sat down at the head of the table.
The weather was good and he was enjoying good food with lovely company.
Now if only the topic would not be so sober.
"We should create more specialized weapons for her." Maria said "If she is an immortal and recovers from all her wounds then normal weapons will not be a good choice against her."
"Then what types of weapons should we use?" Pyrrha asked.
"What about hooks?" Ruby asked, her voice far more serious than her usual self "Hooks and chains that could be used to subdue her. Or maybe Arrows with hooks throughout its length."
He shivered at the idea but didn't stop their brainstorming.
He didn't know what kind of powers Salem had. Just that she was a very powerful magician, could recover from almost any injuries. And if they somehow managed to erase her whole body, she would just return after a while.
And that's not even mentioning all the Grimm that she had gathered in the Land of Darkness.
When they go to fight Salem, it was crucial that they defeat her as quickly as possible.
Because if they took too long then they'll be surrounded by Grimm from all sides.
Thousands. Hundreds of thousands. Millions.
He had no idea how many Grimm Salem had created in her long life and he did not want to find out either.
They ate the food and discussed the kind of weapons they'll use against Salem for a while before they descended into another topic.
"Who will fight against Salem and who will deal with the Grimm she summons. We need to give a specific role to each one of us." Maria said.
"I'll fight her." Raven said "Since you have Silver eyes, you can fight alongside me. "
"I'm not sure if just two of you will be enough against her." Pyrrha said "I'll join you in the fight against her. If nothing else, my Maiden abilities might be able to counter her own magic."
"That won't be necessary." Raven said with a wave of her hand.
"On the contrary, I believe that Pyrrha's assistance will be of paramount importance." Maria said and raised her hand to stop Raven before she could say anything "We are going to fight Salem. A being older than all of us combined. Despite how strong we've become, we cannot afford to underestimate her."
"I can use my lightning to attack her." He said "Or I might use my size to crush the other Grimm or any large Titans that she might have hidden near her castle."
The looks he got when he finished talked made him a little nervous.
Why were they looking at him like that?
"Jaune." Pyrrha said as she put a hand on his lap and he stared at her. The way she said his name was similar to how a Doctor says your name before giving you the bad news. "I'm sorry about this Jaune. But we, as in all the girls, held a meeting this morning. Before you were awake."
"Okay." He said, not liking where this was going. The fact that they didn't include him in a meeting also made him feel a little betrayed.
"I suppose I should just go ahead and say it instead of playing around" Maria said "We've decided that you'll not participate in this fight Jaune."
He stared at all the girls at the table and they all stared back at him. He could see that they were determined about this. But…
"Why?" He asked "In my Dragon form, I'm the strongest one here. Even more so when I'm able to gather up the storm clouds."
"You're also the only person here who is not covered with the Warranty Plan." Raven said bluntly "If we die then we'll come back within 3 days. But if you die then all of this ends."
"We're not saying that you won't be useful Jaune." Pyrrha said "You're indeed the strongest person in here. But you're also the most vulnerable. And if something happens to you…"
"Then we're fucked." Miltia said.
"This…" he paused. He knew that they were right but he didn't want to do this.
He didn't want to send them to a fight that was his own. Not when he himself had to remain back and hope that they would win.
Wasn't it a man's job to go out there and take the risks while the woman tended to the home?
Okay, maybe not in a world where there were just as many women hunters as men.
But, this… this hurt his pride.
"This is not only for your own safety Jaune. But this is for us as well." Maria said "Just as I said… Salem is an ancient Witch and would no doubt have many tricks in her pocket. It is likely that one or two might work against you. We cannot take that risk."
He thought about her words for a moment before he spoke.
"Very well. I'll not fight against Salem."
Their postures sagged in relief but he was not done yet.
"But…" He spoke, "I'll fight the Grimm that Salem will call to herself."
They start to speak but he raised his hand and gave them a stern look. "I've made my decision and that's final."
They didn't look happy at his words but they didn't speak up against him after that.
Because if he was going to allow them to fight his battles, there was no way that he would not help them even if it's an indirect help.
