JAUNE ARC POV

THREE MONTHS LATER

He sniffed the air.

"Did you find them Jaune?" Pyrrha asked.

He told her to wait and sniffed the air a few more times, his Dragon/human senses working overtime until he finally got something.

A whiff of the scent he had been searching for.

Humans.

He nodded toward her and pointed in the direction where the smell was coming from.

They moved silently through the forest, jumping from tree to tree until they finally arrived at a clearing.

A clearing that was taken over by what he could only assume were bandits.

His eyes roamed over the entire camp and came to a stop when he saw a group of women kept inside wooden cages.

He heard a sound and looked down to see that his fists had dug into the bark of the tree.

He really needed to get better control of his emotions.

Especially because anger was the only thing he felt these days.

He felt Pyrrha put a hand on his shoulder. She trying to calm him down but he knew that she was just as angry about the entire thing.

"What are the chances that all these scums have aura?" He asked.

Pyrrha shook her head "King Ozpin wouldn't have given us this mission if they didn't have aura."

Because even when he tried to do the good thing, he somehow managed to fuck up once again.

After the 'Day of Reckoning', as the people were calling it, he had ordered Salem to take all of her titans and other powerful Grimm in the Pocket Dimension and put them in sleep in an underground area.

After that, he had ordered her to send all the remaining Grimm to the Land of Darkness. So that the people of Remnant would be able to rebuild without being constantly harassed by the Grimm.

Except, doing that created problems of its own.

The people of Remnant have lived with Grimm for so long that without the presence of the murder beasts, everyone was lost about what to do next.

Ozpin had quickly taken action and had started rebuilding his kingdom and raising an army to protect the City of Vale. Or what remained of it.

The Hard light walls of Atlas were never truly breached so that city was in a better condition than any other Capital City in Remnant.

Until he had sent Raven and Neo to bring the Relic of Creation to him.

Now… the City was still there, but it was no longer floating in the sky. It was back in the crater it had been raised from.

Vacuo… it was rubble. The kingdom was now split into hundreds of tribes, gangs and clans constantly warring with each other for a single scrap of resource. The situation there frankly reminded him of the movie Mad Max. Except that instead of cars and trucks fighting each other, they had superhumans with aura fighting each other.

The same as Kuo Kuana. In fact, the continent of Menagerie was hit the hardest out of all the other continents. All the Faunus living in there were slaughtered by the Grimm before he could order Salem to call them back.

An entire city wiped out of all of its population.

Blake… was in Kuo Kuana on the Day of Reckoning and had died as well.

Minstral was in better condition than Vale. Pyrrha's father had joined in the defense and had suffered some injuries but had survived the day and had recovered without much difficulty. It was in better condition than Vale but its lands were now filled with bandits. Even more so than Vale.

His own family, which consisted of his mother and 7 sisters hadn't survived.

The news hadn't hit him as hard as he had expected it would. But then again, back then he had fallen into a spiral of depression so it wasn't like the news could've made him feel any worse than he already did.

It was ironic in a way.

Jaune's mother had discouraged all his sisters from becoming Huntsman because she had lost her whole family to that profession. But when the Grimm horde came, she lost all her daughters because none of them could protect themselves.

Yet another regret that he'll have to live with.

"Which means that we don't have much of a chance in sneaking into their camp and killing them one by one." He said, lamenting the days when killing bandits was easy.

When all the bandits that he faced didn't have aura of their own.

Yet another result of sending all the Grimm to the Land of Darkness.

People didn't fear having aura anymore. The only reason why Raven hadn't opened the aura of everyone in her own tribe was because of the Grimm attacks they'll suffer upon doing so.

Except… no more Grimm.

So now everybody had aura.

Which made their job as Hunters became a lot more difficult.

"You protect the women." He said "Use your magic and kill anyone that comes near them. I'll deal with the leader first and then with everyone else"

"Sounds like a good plan." Pyrrha replied.

It wasn't a good plan. It was a decent plan at best. But it was a simple plan and most of the time, simple plans were the best.

"Let's start then." He said and jumped down of the tree before he ran inside the bandit camp.

The bandits noticed his presence instantly and started shouting for their fellow bandits.

But for all their numbers, these bandits might as well have been moving in slow motion in front of him.

He swung his sword at the first bandit that came his way.

His sword hit the bandit with the force of a train. The bandit's aura shattered without being able to put up much of a resistance. His sword went forward without stopping and cut the man in half.

Before the bandit's body could even fall to the ground, he had moved forward and had killed three bandits in a similar fashion.

Killing people with Aura was harder as he had to put more effort and strength into each strike. But at the end of the day, the fate of these bandits will remain the same.

Within half an hour, he and Pyrrha had killed 54 of the 71 bandits in the camp.

Some had managed to run away when they saw their fellow bandits being slaughtered but there was only so much he could do when the bandits scattered in all four directions and ran like the demons of hell were behind them.

Oh well, the new Militia of Vale will be able to take care of them sooner or later.

He called Glynda Goodwitch, the King's trusted adviser, and informed her about the extermination of this Bandit group and asked for two bullheads for the extraction of girls and women they had managed to save.

Once all that was done, he and Pyrrha finally opened a portal and returned home after yet another tiring day in the broken world of Remnant.
