Chapter 117 - Mutated Bison

'Hell no!'

Rynold dodged yet another charge from the Mutated Bison. The creature didn't seem to care whether or not it was slamming against the arena walls. Its massive weight and force seemingly shook the entire arena as it rampaged without care.

'The pain receptors must've been damaged or something. No way it can tank and fight like that without flinching,' Rynold thought as he read the creature's rather odd movements.

It was clear that the creature's mutation took a lot more than what the description stated. Whatever happened to the Bison seemingly lost all sense of consciousness.

Basically, the Mutated Bison was nothing but a mindless monster now.

However, the actions of the creature weren't really something Rynold could belittle.

Every single move he had to make ever since the Mutated Bison's initial charge required so much energy. Because of the creature's massive size, Rynold had no choice but to dodge excessively.

The impact from each charge straight into the wall produced an immense amount of air pressure that would damage Rynold if he weren't careful. As it stands, he can't win this fight without going all out.

Rynold dodged once more. This time, however, he tried to create some distance between him and the Bison. He jumped into the air instead of rolling to the side and gained some altitude.

From there, Rynold got a bird's eye view of everything.

His sudden actions got the crowd's attention instantly as they thought that a normal human wouldn't be able to jump nearly 10 feet like Rynold just did.

Avoiding the gazes of amazement and surprise, Rynold sensed a wisp of Mana from the stands. It was subtle and undiscernible from his current height.

But, it was definitely there, unmistakenly so.

Dismissing the distracting thought, Rynold focused on the fight at hand. 'If I have to show some cards to survive this, then so be it,' was what he thought as gravity started kicking in.

With his current accelerating speed, Rynold had to move quickly. From here on out, Rynold played with one of his cards on the table.

'Mana Gauntlet Strength-Form!'

The gauntlet extended into its full and more powerful size. From there, Rynold extended the drill attachment as well and pointed it straight down. The crowd that was watching gaped open their mouths in utter awe.

Whirring the drill, Rynold pierced through the wind as the speed of his descent increased with each second passed. The sound of the wind whistling in Rynold's ears as he cut through and approached his target.

'Mana Augment Form: Drill!'

Rynold's drill started to glow with a dim light that wasn't noticeable to the naked eye. The Mana pouring out from his Mana Channels embraced the drill in an everlasting brilliance. Wrapping, enveloping. The skill Rynold used formed a thick layer that enveloped the drill with a sharp aura.

With a loud boom, Rynold's drill penetrated through the backside of the Mutated Bison. The impact of which managed to get through the creature's hide and crack its spine in half.

But, Rynold didn't stop there.

Every single ounce of his Mana that circulated his Mana Channels from his Mana Core came pouring out as Rynold willed it to be.

He pushed through with all the guts and blood from within the Mutated Bison. Rynold had hoped that using momentum from his descent was enough for him to cut through the creature.

However, that wasn't the case.

Noticing that he was being slowed down by the amount of fat and muscle from within the Mutated Bison's body, Rynold knew his second most powerful attack wasn't enough to end it in one fell swoop.

So, he decided to crank it up a notch.

'Augment: Flaming Spire!!'

As soon as he thought of the spell, Rynold's drill started to catch fire. With each revolution that the drill spun, it got hotter and hotter in temperature.

Soon, Rynold sliced through the thick fat and muscle with a much smoother experience. And, somehow, a lot more fragrant one too.

Using that Augment Spell costed a lot more Mana than Rynold was willing to use. However, Rynold knew that he had no choice but to use it. He can't spend any more time hesitating.

From the outside, the crowd was in awe.

Rynold had just presented some sort of technique that nobody really understands. It was unfathomable. It was illogical. It was like magic.

But then, the excitement seemed to have died as soon as Rynold willingly jumped into a monster's backside and had not come out for quite some time now.

For some time now, Rynold had been considered a fan-favorite among the people within the kingdom. From the commoners' eyes, Rynold was one to produce miracles among his battles.

His popularity had skyrocketed since his first fight and, whenever they would announce that Rynold would fight some abomination, the arena was guaranteed to be packed.

Rynold's usage of randomly scattered weapons left by previous warriors left an impression among the people. How one person, one that didn't look like he came from the kingdom, was able to fight against creatures and win.

Apart from their impression of Rynold, though, the people didn't consider Rynold as their own. To their eyes, Rynold was just entertainment for these times.

The commoners didn't necessarily know why the nobles decided to make an arena out of the blue, nor did they seem to care. It was clear that the commoners lived rather unambitious lives. Because, to them, none of what the nobles did really ever matter to the people.

However, the fight that they were watching was still as entertaining as ever. That is because, in just a few moments of complete silence following Rynold's disappearance, smoke started coming out of the Mutated Bison's back.

Rynold's drill and spell kept up with the constant whirring and, soon, Rynold had drilled past the thick amount of fat and muscle.

Appearing at the creature's underbelly, Rynold knew he had succeeded with his rather blunt and straightforward plan. Covered in blood and chunks of meat, Rynold staggered as he landed on his feet.

But, before Rynold could promptly recover, the Mutated Bison trashed about and threw Rynold to the side, smashing his already tired body to a nearby wall. Blood immediately shot out of his mouth as the injuries from the crash registered in his brain at a split second.

'Shit! You're supposed to be dead!' Rynold thought as he struggled to look up.

It was then that Rynold realized that the Mutated Bison has disregarded all logic and only moving using its sheer instincts. The creature had lacked the capability to feel pain or any other sensory functions. It didn't feel Rynold was inside its body, nor did it feel any pain from Rynold's attack.

With the Mutated Bison looking menacingly at Rynold, his instincts kicked in and screamed for him to run away.

However, Rynold's body was in too much pain to listen.

'Move, damn it! Move!'

The Mutated Bison charged directly at Rynold. If Rynold didn't get out of the way, he would be instantly crushed. The damage that he would take would undoubtedly be immense.

'Fuck!'

Rynold swore as the Mutated Bison got closer. Without any other choice, Rynold grappled to whatever target his hand was pointing to.

Retracting the rope made out of his Mana, Rynold managed to pull himself away at just the last second.

Before he could land safely, though, the impact from the Mutated Bison's crash flew his injured body to the ground using the wind pressure alone.

With the sound of the Mutated Bison crashing onto the wall that he was previously embedded in, Rynold breathed a sigh of relief. Even though he was knocked to the ground, Rynold was relieved he had gotten out just in time. It was a little too close for comfort, after all.

Unfortunately for him, though, the creature didn't seem to be finished just yet. Because, as soon as it knew that Rynold had dodged the attack, it turned to the side and faced Rynold once more.

'Damn it.'

Rynold clicked his tongue as soon as he knew what was coming his way. He had to move out of the way. He had to get up and roll to the side. He had to do something.

But, his body failed him.

'Oh, fuck this.'

Rynold pulled his status window and pointed his fingers at the Attribute Points Available to him. He currently had 125 points available and, perhaps due to the blood rushing to his head, Rynold decided to put a lot of it into Endurance and Stamina.

Without even giving a moment to think about it, Rynold immediately put 20 points into each Attribute, boosting his survivability by a degree.

With his newfound strength paired with the adrenaline gushing in his head, Rynold's body moved a couple of feet forward as he struggled to get away at the rushing Mutated Bison.

Just when the Mutated Bison neared him, it suddenly crashed to the ground.

It seems that the blood loss of the creature from rampaging on that one instance was significant enough to put it out of commission.

In other words, Rynold had won.
