5:05 pm

I can't believe I forgot my dreamcatcher. It's easily the most important of my possessions. I hold the black circle of bear fur attached to a lock of my grandmother's hair like it's made of solid gold. I know it looks somewhat sinister but I've owned it since Ii was 3. I can't, and won't sleep without it.

The dorm is bare now everyone who is leaving is gone. I wouldn't be leaving if not for my family's suggestion. Orders would be more correct. But it's not unusual for them to call me home for no apparent reason. My sister, Saniya and I spent a year out of high school. All at our parents request. As native Americans we have some leeway. As in, people are shy to question sudden changes in our behavior.

I'm not feeling this blizzard anyway. Winter in Indiana is brutal when compared to South Carolina. Already I can see snow starting to fall. Not trying to drive in the storm I sprint through the lobby.

I'm at the door but it's locked from the outside.

"Too late Mr. Mitchell"

I turn to see Dr. Carey holding a ring of keys. He has on a huge brown parka and snow boots. His short brown hair dotted with snow, and his pale skin red from the cold.

"Dr. Carey I only have a 20-minute ride to the airport. It can't be that bad yet" I plead

Shaking his head pointing out the door " I'm sorry but I can't let you leave in that. I'd be guilty if anything happens to you. Bunk down it'll pass by the morning."

I sigh looking out the door. I can't say I blame him. It's almost at white-out conditions. Still, I hit the door and pulled out my phone. I dial home to deliver the news.

No one answers which is a surprise. Oh, well I have all night to call.
