Chapter 10

CB

12:20 am

This is one hell of a safe house. Three couches, a pool table in the middle and a short bar where I'm sitting. Alexis is sitting by herself curled up on a chair. Kristen and Jordan are cuddled together on a couch. I'm not a fan of that but Carl is my main concern. The guy hasn't stopped pacing since the door locked.

I'm worried about Xavier. I hope he is in his room. I keep recalling something he told me about why he didn't drink and stuff. Needing to keep control of his inner demons or something. A phone starts ringing, startling me. It takes a few seconds for me to realize it's in my pocket. It's Xavier's phone, his sister is calling.

"Hello" I answer " Look this is CB your brothers roommate we need help"

"Wh...'s...….ier" she's breaking up

I hear the phone click as the call drops.

"What did they say is someone coming" Carl asks

I shrug "I don't even know if she heard me there was too much static"

"Give me that phone" Carl screams coming toward me.

"It's not working calm down"

Carl isn't listening or doesn't believe me. I feel his hand clap on my head and a painful sting is beginning to spread. I turn around and Carl is already on the floor. Jordan is standing over him.

"Thanks" I say holding my head

Carl sits up " we need to go you didn't see what I saw. Something in this building I can smell it again."

We all look at him. All I smell is pine.

"Pine" Kristen says

"The woods" I correct.

"Rain" Jordan adds with smoke coming out of his mouth.

I'm about to comment on the smoke when a woman screams. The lights come on.

"That sounded like Brittany" Kristen says "I'm going"

Jordan nods "Kirsten"

"She needs help I'm not going to sit here" Kristen is moving the chai

"I'll go with you" Jordan says "you three stay in here"

I want to protest but I'm definitely not going with them. So I let them go and shut the door behind them. Carl shoves me out of the way.

"I'm not staying, I still smell it" and sprints out the room.

"Stupid" I say closing the door.

"I smell pin again" Alexis whispers

I'm about to agree when the temperature plummets. The walls are turning into ice as we watch. I turn to the door but it's frozen shut. The ceiling cracks and Alexis screams. I want to go to her but I slip and land hard on the frozen floor.

As I'm laying their brown leaves start floating from the ceiling. I feel them on my face they are real. The leaves turn into rain drops. Alexis is next to me tugging on my arms.

"Get up let's go" She is pleading

I stand up slowly "where" I say looking around

In every direction all I see is heavy rain. A deep savage growl begins echoing. I can feel something moving around us. Then the rain chains into a thick crimson. I can smell blood heavy in the air like we are in a butchers shop. Alexis touches her face and starts an ear-splitting scream.

I'm too focused on a large black shape moving in the distance. My heart is skipping. I know it's coming. The growl trunks into a roar. SO strong it knocks us down splashing up the blood puddling at our feet. I feel something burning in my pocket. I reach in and feel Xavier's dreamcatcher. I pull it out and the room instantly turns back to normal.

Alexis and I are clean with no sign of blood but it's just a game room again.

"The Dreamcatcher" I say aloud.
