Chapter 3 - The First Steps

[ Intro ]

The cold poll feels good in my hand as I try to keep myself upright "come on Louis, you can do it, just like that," the mat under my feet is a bit uncomfortable but I've gotten used to it "I told you yesterday, no need to rush take it one step at a time," It's been three weeks since I found myself in the hospital.

After I came to, Santy told me what happened, how a stupid borracho, whatever that is, hit me with his car and tried to get away but got caught.

I was told that I'd recover after two months if I stayed in the hospital, but it was super boring, so I was happy whenever Lilith visits me, she comes by every day, so it wasn't all that bad.

As for dad, I haven't seen him once since I woke up, and I don't care, why should I care, "uis.." Lilith is my, " Louis!" As Santy, trying to get my attention raised his voice but ended up startling me instead, "W..what!?" What was that about? "are you doing ok? if you're tired we can stop here for today" what does he mean, "no I'm ok, I can keep going a little longer" "are you sure? you don't lo.." What did you?...

Hey kiddo, who are you doing? Feeling better now? "Sorry..," Hmm? "Why are you apologizing?" why? "I want to get better but my leg, my leg...," his hand and chest are so warm, "no worries kiddo, you'll get better soon, I know you will" I wish mom was here.. "Tell you what kiddo, I've got a surprise for you, but you have to keep giving it your best" raising his hand, he linked his pinky finger with mine, "I promise to help you get better but you have to promise to keep doing your best," with a smile he got up and started to walk out the door "don't give up on yourself" with those words he closed the door.

I can't sleep at all, with all this noisy rain, "mom.. I wish, you were here" something feel cold on my face.

Chapter Three - The First Steps

"As I mentioned, you will all come down here, and one by one get evaluated, that way I can help you spread your wings," from what I understood, the only way for us to unlock these wings is to link with our weapons, by doing so, the type abilities and their corresponding elements will be revealed, then we can start integrating these new capabilities with the skills we've been honing so far.

Half an hour has passed since Amber started our evaluation, one by one, everyone's wings started manifest from those who were evaluated first, some had wings of wind just like Aries, others of fire or water, but unlike Aries, none could control them as well as he did. With fire extinguishers going off all over and some needing a change of clothes after getting themselves wet, "I guess it won't be as easy to get used to these wings, let alone control them".

Since I didn't bring my weapon with me, I wonder how I'll manifest my wings without it, "yo Louis, what are you doing, Why aren't you showing you're wings? You embarrassed?" Honestly, he's starting to piss me off, "of course not! I just forgot to bring my sword with me that's all," I walked over to Ms. Amber to ask for a weapon if possible, and I think she knew what I was about to say, as she gesture to a closed-door, making my way over to it, I saw others coming out, I guess this is a supply closet with different types of weapons intended for training, "so I'm not the only one who didn't bring a weapon" well that makes me feel a bit better about myself.

After making my way into the closet, I found a ton of weapons, nothing flashy, just blunt carbon alloy training equipment, from blades to Hammers, daggers, and polearms, whatever you may specialize in, they had everything we needed, even armor.

While scanning through them, I didn't find anything that I could use so I just picked a two-handed long sword, the length of the blade and width was a bit off and it wasn't as heavy but it should be good enough for today, "next time, I'll just bring my own".

As I exited the closest, apparently I missed a lot, cause Jack stood in front of Amber, with solid wings of ice, from what I noticed, he doesn't seem to be experiencing any problems controlling them, just the opposite, it looked like it was natural for him, "hey Jack, guess you beat me to it first" can't he feel the weight of those things? "What are saying man, I've been waiting for you this whole time, I just got impatient is all" so you can make that kind of face, too. Well, Lilith's is a lot cuter, "no worries, it's about time I catch up to you" turning to Ms. Amber I asked her how to unlock my wings, as waited for a response all she did was look at me and said, "are you stupid, didn't I tell you already, you first have to link up with your weapon"

I was a bit confused cause I don't know how to, "and how do I do that?" "Ok, first of all, what do you specialize in, in terms of combat styles that is?" "I'm good at slashing and counter-attacking techniques, I'm also proficient in both mid/close-range combat" after listening to the end, she raised her arm, pointing straight at me, then four of the daggers that are hovering around her started coming at me before I realized, dodging was all I could do and whenever I try to get close, she would send out one more, soon seven daggers were stalking, with her eyes locked on me, the daggers inch closer and closer to me.

And with an annoyed look, she shouted, "HAVEN'T YOU REALIZED YET, DON'T YOU SEE THE DAGGERS ALL AROUND YOU!" as mentioned, all around me were at least thirty daggers but only seven were within my line of sight, "do you get it now, our weapons aren't just objects, their our partners" by the way your holding that sword you look nothing like someone who was trained in using one "now visualize it, holding the partner you've trained with from the start, the feel of the blade, it's weight, the sound it makes as cuts through the air, visualize it all".

With my thoughts rushing and my eyes darting, I felt it, it was warm, "I thought it wasn't supposed to rain today!" Looking back at Ms. Amber I noticed that she wasn't looking at me but behind me, so I turned around but nothing was there, turning back at Amber again, she was chuckling to herself trying to keep it in and failing, looking around, everyone was staring at me or maybe not, so Jack gestured at my back and I realized, it's not that I couldn't manifest my wings, as the rain fell, it became clear that they're camouflaged somehow but they felt a little weird to me.

"So that's how it is, you've got some talent I see, I love people with potential" eyeing both jack and me she puts on a creepy grin "both of you, come see me later and Louis, make sure you bring your weapon with you from now on" we both agreed and with a laugh she dismissed as all, saying it was about time we returned to class as our time in the field was up 10 minutes ago.

"I did it, finally" as I returned the sword to the closet, I started to feel cold, I just hope I don't get sick.
