Chapter 17.1

They had walked under the sweltering heat until they exhausted their energies. Finally the narrow trail or walking path converged with a secondary road, broader and showing tire tracks in the red dust.

“I think it makes no sense to continue exhausting our forces and those of the lady.” Said Waldir. “Let´s wait on the roadside and someone will show up at some point.”

“I agree.” Replied Emil. “We are now at a considerable distance to the cave. It is unlikely that Andropov and his thugs will look for us over here.”

They then sat in the bushes. Amalric went to observe from the road, he erased with branches the footprints that could be recognizable and reported back.

“ No sign of our presence, and we are invisible from the road. We just have to wait.”

The first vehicle appeared about half an hour later, but it was a small car with no internal space for all. Just five minutes later came a rickety truck, carrying in its uncovered rear part a group of workers in orange uniforms.
