Chapter 30

Chapter 30

The climb was more difficult than expected. Martín had indeed made the same trip two days before in an almost delirious state but in a downward direction, so to travel in the opposite direction consumed much more energy and time. Finally they arrived at a breach in the rock that the young man identified as his place of exit; again in the light of day he was able to verify the tricks memory plays since according to it the entrance was wider than it ultimately turned out to be.

Once inside the passage the task of the group became easier, since this time the direction was downward and they walked with the light of several lamps, avoiding the damages inflicted on Martín´s body by the rocks of sharp contours. Also the length of the corridor was greater than what was recorded by his memory but finally they arrived at a place where the tunnel widened and the roof moved up allowing everyone to walk in an upright position.
