The Breach

It's March, and the team has been hectic lately with several cases. Right now, Gudmund is finishing up a meeting with the other team leaders of Southern California pINPOINt. "Ok, so now we have about fifty cases of the year closed. Seventy-six cases still open. I have divided them up and have chosen which cases will go with which team," Gudmund says, and everyone looks at the list before them. "The files will be on your desks first thing Monday morning. I'll see you all next Friday for our next meeting." Everyone stands and leaves the meeting room. Gudmund sits down in his chair and turns to face the window where he can see the ocean.

So far, Gudmund hasn't been getting any more evidence that belonged to his brother. He hasn't gotten any word on Klaus, Xing-Fu, or Nevel lately either. Gudmund's team has just finished a big case and is going to take the weekend off.

Meanwhile, in an office on the floor for federal agents of pINPOINt, Derek finishes talking to his wife on the phone. He looks around his office and is happy that he is now an agent. He looks at the photo on his desk of him, Hazel, and Juliana together for Christmas. Next to the photo is a photo of his now-late grandfather, Ernest Fischer. Ernest passed away back in early December, and his dad Kenrick has decided to retire. Someone knocks on his door and enters the office. "Hey Ashton," Derek says, and Ashton closes the door behind him.

"Hey Agent Fischer, so how are things going at home for you?" Ashton asks.

"Good, and you know that Hazel and I found out we are going to have twins, a boy, and a girl."

"Yeah, I know," Ashton says as he sits down.

Derek notices that something is bothering Ashton. "Ok, what is up?"

"I am not sure how to tell Gudmund this, but I am going to ask for a transfer to a new pINPOINt Headquarters in Orlando, Florida."

Derek sits up and looks surprised, "Why? Why do you want to transfer there?"

"Because I got a call two nights ago from the Director of Orlando pINPOINt, offering me a job. They want me to lead a team there," he says.

"Wow, that is great, but how does Leona feel about this?"

"My wife and I talked about it, and we aren't sure about moving. Most of my family lives here in California, but we both do have some family living in Florida. Leona and I aren't sure if we should pack up and move out of the state. Once we had Morton, we decided not to uproot our family from the city because Leona's family moved all the time when she was growing up," Ashton says.

"But if you leave, who will take your place?"

"That is why I am here," Ashton says, and Derek realizes what he is talking about.

"Wait. You want me to take your place?" Derek asks, and Ashton nods. "That would be great, and Elena and I aren't partners anymore now since I am now a federal agent," he says.

Gudmund enters the office, "Hey guys, what you two up to?" he asks.

Ashton and Derek look from Gudmund to each other and back to Gudmund. "Nothing, but we can't wait for the BBQ at your place tonight," Derek says.

Gudmund smiles. "Ok, then see you both at my place; I am going to head on out." Gudmund leaves, and the two continue their conversation.

Later at Gudmund's house, the whole team is in the backyard. Gudmund has his grill going. He places some burger patties on the grill, along with some brats and hot dogs. Aurora walks over to Gudmund with some plates to have them be ready for him. She kisses him on the cheek, and he kisses her back. "I can't wait until Hazel and Derek have their second and third child soon," she says, and Gudmund smiles.

"Yep, Juliana will be a big sister. I remember when she found out we were going to have Ryan," he says, and Aurora smiles.

Inside the living room, Astrid, Juliana, Cameron, Parker, Rio, and Morton talk about a book. They have the Sioux Clan and the New Heroes, and the Sioux Clan and the Fountain of Youth. "I am so glad that they found Kevin's little sister," Astrid says.

"Yeah, and the backstory about Monster was big. I can't believe he did all of that," Parker adds.

"Yeah, I can't believe how Monster manages to live with himself through that. I mean, he did talk about wanting to die since Mufasa died," Morton says.

"Well, I like how Miranda found a boyfriend, but I am shocked that she would date someone twenty-five years older than her," Juliana says.

"Speaking of dating," Cameron says, and everyone looks at him. "I heard that the kid in our school likes you, Juliana."

"Please, I know that my dad would never allow me to date," she says. "Do you know who it is?"

"Yep, but he is a couple of years older than us by two years," Cameron says. "And his dad works with our parents at pINPOINt. I saw him back on that day when we went to work with them. I think his name is Steven Yang."

"Steven Yang! He is in a band, isn't he?" Astrid asks.

"Yeah, Steven's father works as a leader of a team at pINPOINt," Cameron says. "I believe he plays the electric guitar."

"Steven Yang… I have a couple of classes with him," Rio says. "He is my biology lab partner. He is excellent."

"You take AP Bio, right?" Morton asks, and Rio nods.

"You are going to study the same field as your dad, right?" Cameron asks.

"No, I may be in AP Bio, but I am also taking AP Chemistry, and that is the field I am going into. I want to get into the same field as my mom. Daniella will be going in the same field as my dad."

Astrid opens her book and turns to the ending, leading their conversation back to the book. "So, what does everyone think of the ending?"

"I was surprised that Ryan almost got hit by a huge kunai, but I wonder why would someone want to use that with a note?" Rio asks.

"Also, who were those guys at the end?" Cameron asks.

"I wonder how long it will be until we get the next book," Juliana asks.

Morton pulls out another book, a graphic novel. "Ok, while we wait on that, how about we talk about this? Morpher!" Everyone looks at him. "The same author writes it as the Sioux Clan books, but the art was made by someone else."

"Yeah, I heard that it came out. It would be awesome to meet the author," Rio says, and everyone agrees.

"Well, back in October, I almost had a chance to meet him," Cameron says, and everyone looks at him.

"What? Are you serious?" Astrid asks.

"I was with my parents when we went to the TCL Chinese Theater, and it was a Saturday. It was jam-packed, but I saw him there. I wasn't able to get to him, but it was great to see him."

"Are you sure it was him?" Rio asks. "I mean, you did say it was busy there."

Cameron checks his phone to bring up the photo that he took. He shows it to his friends, "See, I saved it. I've forgotten to show it to you guys." The photo has many people around, but a blond man in his late twenties, wearing glasses, a cowboy hat, and a hearing aid in one ear is clearly evident.

"No way," Juliana takes the phone from Cameron. "It would be nice to meet him if he revisits LA. I heard he lives in Wisconsin."

"Well, I am following him on Twitter, and he has posted a few times he will be visiting again around New Year's. I hope he'll post all the time and say where he is. I just need to figure out where he is staying. Since he has a cowboy hat, I think he camps at one of the campsites."

"Cameron, you might want to relax on that part for following him," Astrid says. Astrid then looks at Juliana. "So back on Steven Yang, I heard he is looking for a new lead singer for his band. How about you join?"

Juliana looks at her best friend and looks away. Everyone looks at her. "Yeah, you should," Rio encourages her, and Juliana looks at him. "You are a great singer, and you do play the electric guitar and the electric bass. I know that they also need a bass player as well."

Astrid walks over to Juliana and puts her arm around her shoulder. Then the kids start to talk more about Steven Yang's band and even forming their own.

Outside in the backyard, Derek and Hazel are talking to Chelsea and her husband, Xavier. Chelsea is feeling Hazel's pregnant belly, "I can feel them kicking," she says and takes her hands off of Hazel's belly. "Did you two pick their names yet?"

"Yeah, it took us forever to come up with them," Hazel says.

"For the boy, it will be Peter Ernest," Derek says. "And for the girl, it will be Ruby Chloe."

"Nice," Xavier says, "I remember how we picked our kids' names. Rio was easy, but for Daniela, it took us a while to pick."

"How did you guys come up with their names?" Hazel asks.

"Well, I decided to name Daniela after my sister, Danielle," Chelsea says.

"And I am honored that my niece was named after me," says Danielle as she and Butch walk over to them. Danielle hugs her older sister.

"What about Rio? How did he get his name?" Derek asks.

"Well, we were on vacation in Rio de Janeiro at the time," Xavier starts. "Then, after a big day playing and putting Daniela to bed, we went to our room next to hers. Then we… Well, Rio got conceived."

Hazel chuckles a little, and Derek smiles. "Kind of how Juliana was named," Derek says.

Xavier, Chelsea, Butch, and Danielle look confused. "She was named after two people," Hazel adds, noticing the confused looks on their faces. "One of them is my mom's maternal grandmother, and the other is after the person that made the adult toy of how she was conceived."

"We didn't plan on ever having kids until we found out we were going to be parents," Derek says. "Once she was born, we completely fell in love with her."

"Wow," Danielle says, "I have dealt with many parents that try to come up with names for their kids, but you guys are something else."

"But Juliana's middle name is after my father's maternal grandmother, Zuri. My great-grandmother came from Africa; she met my great grandfather when he visited Africa from the Philippines. Then, they moved to America and had my grandmother."

"For the twins, Peter is my maternal grandfather's name; he came from Greece. Peter wasn't his birth name; he changed it when he came to America. His birth name was Petros."

"What about you guys?" Hazel asks Butch and Danielle.

"Sasha was my grandmother's name," Butch says.

"Cleo and Max were named from my side of the family," Danielle says. "My father's name was Max, and my great-grandma's name was Cleo."

Meanwhile, on a nearby house roof, a man is taking photos of everyone in Gudmund's backyard. His cell phone rings, and he answers it. "They all are here," he says. "What should I do next?" He listens for a while, "Got it, see you soon." He hangs up and rises to leave.

A few hours later, about two in the morning, Gudmund's cell rings. He is sleeping with his wife and son. Ryan is sleeping between his parents as they got their arms around each other. Gudmund starts to wake up and turns to his nightstand. He reaches out, grabs his cell, and answers it. "Major Thoresen," he says. His eyes widen, and he sits up. "What? I am on my way," he says and hangs up. He gets out of bed and gets dressed.

Aurora wakes up and sees her husband getting dressed, "Why are you getting dressed, my love? Come back to bed."

"Maisie called; there was a breach in the pINPOINt National Database," he answers. He kisses her and Ryan before he leaves and heads for the office.

Later at the pINPOINt Headquarters, Gudmund arrives at the technical specialist room, seeing everyone working hard. He hears many people typing all around and looks at the huge screen on the wall before him. Many things are popping up at once. Gudmund sees Maisie working with everyone.

"We need to find out where this breach is coming from. If any of the information leaks out to any enemy countries, America will be in big trouble," she says and sees Gudmund. "Gudmund," she says as she rushes to him. "A breach came in from one o'clock this morning. I was the first they called, and I rushed here. Then, I found that it came from a few different places. We are trying to locate the one attacking our database. If they manage to get through some of the firewalls, they might be able to hack the databases to the CIA, FBI, and Interpol."

"Has anyone tried to contact the Director of the FBI and the Director of CIA yet?" Gudmund asks.

"Yes, you might want to get ready because both directors and the director of the whole pINPOINt, the President of Interpol, and the Secretary-General of the UN will want to have a conference with you in on it because it's our location that got attacked."

Gudmund nods. "Ok, I'll head for Conference Room A1 and wait for them." Maisie nods, and Gudmund goes to the conference room to be ready for the meeting. He enters the room with ten monitors on one wall. On the table before the monitor is a laptop that is wirelessly connected to the ten monitors. He logs in to the laptop. Then, six messages appear, and he answers them. On six monitors appear, six people, one for each monitor. "This is Major Gudmund Thoresen, leader of Southern California pINPOINt."

"Major, we need to discuss the breach that just happened at your headquarters," says Director Clarence Adams of the FBI.

"I know. I got brought up to date. We are doing our best to locate the hacker. We believe it might be coming from outside of the country," Gudmund answers.

"We need to try and find out what this hacker wants," says Director Leon William of the CIA. "Major, your teams are first on the case for. Will you be able to figure out why we are being hacked?"

"Yes, Director, I have my technical teams working on it right now. My head technical agent, Maisie Berglund, is trying to follow the breach. Once she figures out who is doing it and what they are looking for, we'll be able to stop them and make sure no highly classified information gets leaked."

Everyone on the screen nods and Gudmund receives a video call. He answers it and puts it onto one of the screens. It's Maisie, "Sir, we found out that someone is hacking our server from five different locations, but only one of them is the real one. What should we do?"

"Are they all showing strong signals?" Gudmund asks.

"Yes. We can't figure out which one is real, but one of them is coming from the Interpol Headquarters."

"What?" says the President of Interpol as she can't believe that one of the signals is coming from Interpol. "How is that possible?"

"Son of Loki," Gudmund says to himself, "Ok, Madam President, contact my cousin Hakon and let him know. And—" Maisie interrupts him.

"Sir, one of them is coming from the UN Police Headquarters as well," she says, and the Secretary-General of the UN looks shocked.

"What? But we just got a new installment that would make it hard to hack," he says.

"Oh no," Maisie says as she receives words from one of her technical specialists. "We found out what the hacker was looking for," she says, and everyone looks at her. "They are trying to get a list of people in the witness protection program of the CIA, FBI, Interpol, and pINPOINt. They are also trying to hack something connected to both Interpol and UN Police Database," she says.

"Can you find out what it is?" Gudmund asks.

Maisie tries, but nothing works, and she shakes her head slowly. "Sorry, sir, but I cannot get into it."

Gudmund looks at both President of Interpol and the Secretary-General of the UN. "Would either of you know what this hacker might be trying to do?"

"That is classified, but we'll get back to you to see if we can allow you in," the President of Interpol says.

Gudmund finishes up the meeting and plans a follow-up meeting in twelve hours. Gudmund sits in a chair and starts to think of what is happening. His cell rings and he looks at the caller ID; it's Aurora. He answers it, "Hey, why didn't you go back to sleep?"

Later, Gudmund goes to his office, sits at his desk, and turns on his computer. Once the window comes on, he sees an envelope icon glowing in the center of the screen. He clicks on it. A message appears on the screen, and his eyes widen. He clicks on the Print icon to print the message and then clicks on a link in the message. It goes to a map, and he prints the map as well. Once the papers print, he grabs them and heads out right away.

A few hours later, at the Watson house, Ashton is already making pancakes with eggs and sausages for his wife and son. He sees his wife Leona walking down the stairs. "Hey, my love," he greets his wife.

Leona walks over to him and kisses him on the cheek, "Why are you up so early?" she asks.

"I thought maybe I could cook breakfast for the three of us," he answers and starts to pour more pancake batter into the frying pan. "Do you think I should take the job?" he asks without looking at his wife.

"It's up to you," she says. "I would go anywhere with you and be at your side all the time. Morton said the same thing too when we told him. He did say he would miss his friends, even Rio, but he would support you as I would."

As if on cue, Morton walks down the stairs and sits at the table. Ashton finishes cooking and places the food on the table. The three start to eat. "Morton, what are you up to today?" Ashton asks his son.

"Rio and I are going to go surfing, but we might decide to do wakeboarding instead," he answers.

"Will you both be wakeboarding?" Leona asks.

"Yeah, we want to make a video for our channel," Morton answers, and he looks at his dad. "Dad, are you going to be working today?"

"Well, I am supposed to be off, but I am on call," Ashton answers. "But I do hope I will be able to stay home today and tomorrow."

"Cool," Morton says and continues to eat. "Did you decide on anything about the job offer?"

Both Ashton and Leona look at their son. "No, I haven't decided yet. It is a big decision. Why?" Ashton asks.

"Before we left the Thoresen's last night, Rio and I were talking. I told him about your job offer, and he told me he had cousins that live in Florida. If you decide to take the job, Rio says he can still visit me through his cousins."

"Thanks, but I still want the three of us to decide together if this is what we want to do," Ashton says, and both Leona and Morton nod. The three continue their breakfasts and talk about what else they will be doing.

Over at the Nakano family house, everyone just ate breakfast. Takeshi is feeding their dog; an Akita Inu named Kiba. Takeshi puts the dog dish on the floor for the dog to start eating. Takeshi walks over to Nozomi, who is putting the dishes in the dishwasher. "So, what is the plan today?" he asks his wife.

"Well, Yu has a play date today, and Rin is going over to Maisie's house to play with Parker. I am hoping to kick back and finish reading my book," she answers.

Takeshi smiles. "Well, if you are going to finish reading your book, then how about I drop the kids off? I need to pick up some items for my flower garden," he kisses her on the cheek, and she hands him the car key. "Ok, kids, be ready; we leave in ten minutes," he calls out.

"Thanks," Nozomi says, and her husband nods and leaves the room. She kneels to her dog and pets him, "Well, it's just you and me for the morning." The dog barks happily as he finishes eating as; she grabs her book, her cell rings. "Officer Nakano," she answers into the phone.

"Hey baby sis, glad I caught you," says her older half-brother on the other line.

"Onii-san, glad to hear from you. How are you?" she asks.

"Great," Ichirou answers, "I need to talk to you about something. Will you be home today?"

"Yes, I am off this weekend. I am going to try and finish reading my current book," she answers.

"Great, I'll be there in thirty minutes," he says, and the two hang up.

Nozomi looks at her dog and smiles. "Well, I guess I won't be able to finish reading that novel." The two prance outside so Kiba can use the lawn.

At the Thoresen house, Astrid hears a sound from her computer while getting dressed. It's a video chat alert, and she answers it. A fifteen-year-old girl with long blonde hair and blue eyes appears on the monitor. "Johanne," Astrid says.

"Hey, Astrid. How's it going?" she asks.

"Great," Astrid notices something about the username that her second cousin is using. "Why are you using Ingrid's account?"

A twelve-year-old girl with light skin, blonde hair, and light blue eyes appears on the screen. "Hey cousin," she greets Astrid.

"Hey, Ingrid. I see that your English is getting better," Astrid says. "What's up?"

"We just wanted to see if you were up and say hi," Ingrid says.

"How is Oslo International School going?" Astrid asks her cousin.

"It is going great, and Sverre likes Oslo's Montessori school," she answers.

"I am helping tutor the two in English and a few other subjects," Johanne says. "So, how is your Norwegian going?"

"Det går bra og så langt bestefar og bestemor er stolte av arbeidet mitt," Astrid answers in Norwegian.

Both Johanne and Ingrid laugh a little. "I am glad at great-grandma and great-grandpa's funeral we were able to talk well to each other," Johanne says. "By the way, my dad told me that we might be coming to Los Angeles for a while, not sure when."

"Cool, what about you, Ingrid?" Astrid asks her cousin.

"No, I have school still, but I do wish to visit. I did ask my dad if I could visit America one day. He says the family could enjoy this summer if he isn't busy."

Ryan enters Astrid's bedroom and walks up to the computer. "What are you doing?" he asks and looks at the computer. "Hey cousins," he says to the girls on the monitor.

"Hey Ryan, how have you been?" Johanne asks.

"Great," he answers.

On the screen, Johanne turns as she hears a knock, and someone enters the room. The man speaks in Norwegian, and she nods and turns back to the monitor. "Hey, we have to go. Talk to you guys later," she says, and the two say bye to their cousins.

After Astrid and Ryan get dressed, they go to the kitchen. Aurora is setting food on the table. "Mom, where is dad?" Astrid asks.

"He had an emergency at work; he left about two in the morning," Aurora answers. "I just talked to him. He says he'll be home around eleven." The three then start to eat.

Meanwhile, on a private jet, Knut is sitting across from the Ambassador of Norway, Ambassador Oscar Vinter. "It's nice to be going to a nice beach," he says.

Knut smiles. "We managed to put in some time for you and your family to relax at the beach on the trip."

Ambassador Vinter smiles. "Thank you, and I am glad you brought your family with you." He looks over at Knut's family, talking to his family. "I am huge on family." He looks back at Knut. "So, will your friend Major Thoresen be waiting for us to land?"

"No, I just received word that he won't be able to make it. But I did manage to set up a dinner with them for tonight at one of the best restaurants in Los Angeles." Ambassador Vinter smiles, and he looks out of the plane.

A flight attendant walks up to Knut. "Sir, there is a phone call for you."

"Thank you," he walks up to the cockpit and picks up the phone, "This is Lieutenant Commander Saksen."

"Knut, it's Hakon. You need to have the plane land somewhere else," Hakon says, and Knut looks confused.

"What? Why? We should be landing at LAX Private Jet Terminal in about two hours."

"I know, but there was a breach in the Southern California pINPOINt database. Some of the information that got stolen was on the ambassadors that are visiting Los Angeles for the fundraiser, so we will have you land at Los Alamitos Army Airfield. I'll text you all of the information on what to do next. Just be ready, and I'll call you later at the hotel."

"Ok, thanks, and talk to you later," Knut hangs up and goes to the pilots, "Ok, I need you to go to Los Alamitos Army Airfield. They should know we are coming," he says and the two pilots nod.

Knut goes back to the others and sits down in his seat. "Is everything alright, Lieutenant Commander?" Ambassador Vinter asks.

"That was Colonel Hakon Ulstein; we are going to be landing somewhere else," Knut says and starts to fill Ambassador Vinter in.

"That's a good idea. I know that you will be able to protect us well," he says, and Knut nods. Knut looks over at his family with the ambassador's family.

A couple of hours later, they land at the military airport, and everyone gets ready to get off. They all get off the jet and head into the black cars to pick them up. As they climb in, Knut sees a black hummer heading for them. "That isn't one of ours," He turns to the members of his security team. "Get everyone into the cars now and go. Three of us will stay behind." He picks two that he wants with him while the others leave.

The black hummer arrives and stops, and some thugs rush out of the hummer. They start to shoot at the cars, and the cars start to pull away, leaving one behind. Knut and the two others stay behind the car and start to shoot at the thugs. Knut manages to hit one of the four thugs, and a third starts to run around the car. Knut rushes after him, and the two start to shoot at each other.

The other two thugs get back into the hummer and start to go after the cars, but they get stopped as five black cars with police sirens, and two helicopters appear, heading for them. The hummer does a quick turn and starts to head the other way, but a copter blocks the hummer, and all of the black cars surround it. The two thugs get out and raise their hands into the air. One of the officers that get out of the car is Derek, and he has his gun out. The rest were other FBI agents. "Arrest them and get them back to the pINPOINt Headquarters so we can question them," he calls out. He hears a gunshot nearby and rushes to it.

Over by a building, Knut chases the guy around the building, and the man starts to shoots at him. Knut hides behind a wall and gets ready to shoot. As soon as the shooting stops, Knut quickly jumps around and shoots the man in the left leg and in the right shoulder. The man falls to the ground, and Knut rushes over to him and kicks the gun away as he starts to cuff the man, one of the flight attendants from the jet steps around the corner. She aims her gun at Knut, but before she could shoot, she gets shot in the right shoulder, and she drops her gun. Knut looks up and sees Derek cuffing the woman. Knut smiles, "Thanks for the save man," he says.

"Sure, now let's get these two to a car," he says, and they take the two away.

Later, Knut gets off of the phone and turns to Derek, "Ok, they are fine and are on their way to a temporary location," Knut says.

"Good. We need to make sure the all visiting ambassadors that are coming to Los Angeles are safe. Yours wasn't the first; there have already been two attempted kidnappings."

"There is no way that the hotel might be safe," Knut says.

"Why would it not be safe?" Derek asks.

"Because if one of the flight attendants was a mole, then someone at the hotel might be one too."

"Yeah, you got a point there; I guess we need to figure out where to put them."

"We can think about that later. Let's get to the pINPOINt Headquarters. You can say that is where my boss, his family, and my family are going."

"Yep, let's go," Derek says as the two hops into the car and head back to Long Beach.
