Cheer practice felt a little bit off today. Yvette was stranger than normal. She is always scared of Jacob dumping her, yet she wasn't afraid of the letter that could seal her fate. Yes, her family has never been chosen to do the games, but that doesn't mean she can't be. I grabbed my cheer bag and rushed to my mother's car door, sitting in the back next to my annoying baby brother. He's ten, which means he won't ever be chosen for the games and I thank the lord for that. He will never have to worry about the games that I possibly have to endure.
"Are you still freaking out about those games?" My mother asked me and I nodded as I looked at the picture of the red envelope that was passed down to my grandfather on dad's side.
Here's the thing about my family, my parents are divorced and have been since I was four. My brother and I are half siblings, in case you haven't really figured that out yet. His dad is my stepdad, which is the rather normal way to explain things. My stepdad is more emotionally functioning than my real dad.. that left me when I was four.
I don't know why or how he left me, but he did. I will never understand it.
"Hi sissy." My little brother said, as he wanted to pull on my high ponytail, just to mess with me.
"Please stop, bro." I said and he chose to stop. For once in my life, he actually obeys me. The rest of the ride was quiet and as we pulled up to the fancy Roberts mansion, I rushed inside and into my bedroom for some privacy.
I am currently panicking because well.. my life could be ending at any moment. And I wouldn't even know until the very last second. That last second could change anything. As I am writing this in my journal, I hear a light knock on my door. I turn around to see my stepdad at the door. He decided to sit next to me on my bed to talk to me about some stuff I guess.
"I understand why you're scared, Rebecca." He said, as I gulped and nodded.
"You always understand why everyone's scared, dad. It's like a superpower to you. You always know what's up with everyone." I said and he chuckled a little bit.
"No, Bec. You are scared about the games. No one in your bloodline has been chosen to fight in them. And no one in my bloodline has been chosen to participate, that is true, but you're going to be okay. I promise." He said, tapping on my shoulder and leaving the room.
I am going to go back to writing into my journal, dreaming about my crush, Jacob. I know she is Yvette's boyfriend, but so what? Once she dies and I go into the games with her, well.. possibly go into the games with her, I am going to rightfully claim Jacob as mine. He doesn't have to worry about the games since his name doesn't start with the first letter of a color. I need to work on ways to end up getting Yvette into the arena without her being suspicious of me getting her into the arena.
Looking at my fancy nightstand with my pink jewelry box and makeup in the drawers, the exterior of it painted white with flowers and stars, I opened up the bottom drawer to grab out a knife. I have it hidden there and have had it hidden there for years to make sure that I am on the right track of course. To keep myself safe. I don't think it is cheating to bring it to the games, is it? As long as they don't know? I opened up the top drawer to grab the TV remote as I played 'Glee' on Netflix.
You know, Rachel Berry is that annoying choir girl, just like that October girl that keeps a super low profile. How does someone keep that low of a profile? Literally no one knows who she is or why she exists, or anything. She does have a killer singing voice though. I went to one of her show choir competitions the other day. She is super good. She won the competition for her team. It was something like regionals or whatever.
I hear another knock on my door and I look over to see that this time, it is my brother's twin sister with her stupid fucking dolls.
"Hey, Becca, would you play dollies with me?" She asked me. I rolled my eyes and turned around, back to writing in my journal.
Now, she is in front of me, holding her dolls for me to play with. I sighed, grabbing the one that looked like me. Green eyes, blonde hair, skinny, and I closed my journal, putting it underneath my bed, as my half sister holds my hand, and walks me to her bedroom. I am so happy these kids don't know what it's like to have to deal with this.
My sister's room is super pretty. It's pink and it has a dollhouse next to the door, the bed right by the window, with pink curtains and one of those princess beds out of the movies. There is a loft with a desk. The second bed is in case she has friends over, which she does a lot. A little too much for a ten year old in my opinion, but it is what it is. She takes me to her little dollhouse and we play together for a bit.
"ARGH!! LEMME TAKE ALL YER GOLD!" She shouted, holding up a pirate ship and I freeze.
"NO! I shalt not let you take me precious gold!" I start to say as my mom is smiling at the both of us playing together.
"It's good to see my girls playing together," She started saying as she pulled out a red little camera.
"CHEESE!" Mom said and I smiled with my little sister, as mom took the picture.
"Aww you girls are so cute." Mom said and walked off into her room.
Her and I looked at each other, and then went back to happily playing dolls together, like kids. I completely forgot about the games.
