The wolves looked at us with a triumphant grin. They were hungry, they were foaming at the mouth at the thought of having two vampires for dinner. Now that they were closer I could see that the female had a large scar from the bottom of her chest to the top. My mum's eye's flashed with recognition. And screamed ''You! It's you! Now you're coming after the rest of my family?! I won't let you! My mum's eyes filled with anger. I had never seen her so angry, not even when she scolded me two years ago. But now the aura she was giving off was pure bloodlust and revenge. She wanted the werewolves dead. But I wasn't going to let that happen. I didn't want my mum to die after all I had just finally changed and now I cared about her and the rest of the people in my life. But now she was throwing it all away just to fight this female werewolf.
So I decided to stall. I stood in front of my mum and tried to lighten the mood, or at least break her out of her stupor. I wanted her to listen to me. I sure as hell wasn't going to fight these werewolves who were at the height of their power. I wasn't strong enough and even if we were fighting together I believed our chances to be slim.
The female growled at me, she clearly didn't like me moving around so I stood still and tried to make conversation. ''I wouldn't recommend eating bat you know, might have some nasty consequences''
My mum made a face at me but atleast I finally had her attention. She gave me this big speech about responsibilities and family but she sees one werewolf and all her morals fly out of the window, talk about being a hypocrite.
''Mum we have to go! They are going to eat us, we don't have to fight, we can just run. Remember that big speech you gave me? Let's just stick together okay?'' My mum looked damaged, hurt, I had never seen her like this. She had heartfelt rage against those werewolves. She resented them, but then she looked into my eyes.
Her son, her only child. And she knew she couldn't leave me. But she didn't want to give up fighting either. ''Then stay and fight with me! We can win, I promise'' Now I grew a little anxious. If she didn't give up fighting he might really have to stay. Or I had to call for help but the only one I could call for help was my dad. If I called the aurors and they saw my mum flying around like a bat they would most definitely ask questions.
''No we're definitely not sticking around to fight'' I grabbed my mum in bat form and I flew off. She was heavy to carry even while she was a bat but I didn't care. I had to get her away from here. She struggled but I was strong, maybe even stronger than her. Being a half-vampire definitely paid off. If I was able to be on equal footing or even overpower an adult vampire my chances of appealing to the vampire society might be even greater. I could lead my own vampire army against Riddle.
''Please! Let me kill them! For my sister!'' My mum thrashed around but it didn't have much use. She finally stopped trying to break free but her eyes were filled with despair and it was breaking my heart.
''Please let me avenge my sister. They've been chasing me all my life, I thought I would've been safe now because I married a wizard but they were just waiting for their chance. Now that they know you're my son they will also target you.''
This changed the situation. This meant even if we ran as far as we could they would continue chasing us. But the most important reason is why, why would they chase us. What did my mum do to deserve their hatred?
''Why do they hate you so much?'' I let go of my mum and she flew beside me. She at least owed me an explanation so I let her go and she began her story ''Long ago when I was 17 I was bitten by a vampire, and then I obviously became one. I hated myself so much for being a vampire that I decided to ostracize myself from my family and my community. I roamed the woods a little while but around that time was when I got my first cravings''
My mum had a wounded look in her eyes and had to gasp for air but after a few seconds continued her story.
''My cravings were… Irresistible I couldn't withstand them. I felt hopeless but most of all I felt hungry. Really hungry. I headed back home and tried to eat some normal but I couldn't eat it. It was like my insides were on fire''
I looked down at the ground, the oversized furballs were still chasing us. I looked up at my mother again since she stopped speaking. She was choking back tears and had to pause her story but continued shortly after that.
''I looked in the mirror in the bathroom and noticed that all my hair had fallen out and my skin turned grey. When I saw that I broke down crying I just didn't know what to do. But I craved food. It was overwhelming. I already waited too long. So I rushed outside and headed to my neighbour's house and snuck into their daughter's bedroom''
''Her parents were werewolves and had latched all their hope to their child. She was the brightest light in their life and she was the only reason why they didn't head off to live in the wild with a pack. They loved her with all their might and I killed her. I sucked her dry because I couldn't stop myself, it was a sickening feeling but it felt so good''
I gave my mum a horrified look. She always seemed so calm and reserved like she was the holy spirit herself. But it seemed like she had a dark past a very dark one. The werewolves were growling loudly and howling at us probably saying ''Get down from there pussies! We're hungry!''
But if the werewolves were so focussed on my mum it could mean only one thing. Those werewolves were the werewolves that my mum angered by killing their daughter. It seems they've made their existence out of hunting my mum and avenging their daughter's death.
My mother didn't look down at me but at the ground and continued speaking. ''When I was done with draining her corpse her parents came in. They both were furious at me and scratched me several times on my legs, I still have scars from when that happened. I ran away and when they stopped chasing me I though they would quit but they didn't no, they did something worse''
''I continued to roam around the forest near our home but when it was a full moon I suddenly heard screaming. I went back to the village to see what was going on and I saw that my house had been broken into. When I got there I was too late, my mother, father and sister were all dead on the floor. They were cut into pieces except for my sister and there was a message for me written on the wall. Out of my family member's blood. It said: 𝝲𝖔𝖚'Ꞅ𝗲 ր𝗲ㄨ𝖙''
''I heard my sister breathing and I tried to save her by changing into a vampire but it was too late. I couldn't even hear her last words. I couldn't even say goodbye''
My mum couldn't contain her emotions anymore and big salty tears streamed down her uh, bat face. I tried to put my hand on her shoulder to support her but I ended up just awkwardly putting my wing over hers and almost made me lose control and crash.
Luckily that cheered her up and she laughed a bit. I really wanted to give her a hug. I wanted to tell her that it was okay. But it was really hard to say anything when you had two annoying guard dogs chasing you around.
But I had decided. We were going to fight. There was no point in running, they would've followed us anyway. But if we were going to fight, we were going to fight as a family.
''I've made up my mind, there's no point in running anyways. Let's get dad here and duke it out with these obese Newfoundlanddogs!''
My mum smiled at me and nodded ''Yes, let's''
And we dashed off back to our house.
