A letter

I was pulled back to reality by Lucifer licking my face. ''Good boy.'' I said whilst trying to get him off me. He was on top of me and refused to get off. He seemed to be really worried. I smiled and ruffled his hair a bit, ''There, there. I'm alright.'' I assured Lucifer. Lucifer looked me in my eyes with his crimson red eyes looking into my soul, into my identical crimson red eyes.

After a few moments he saw that I was fine and got off me, but he still wanted to be pet so he put his head on my legs. ''I didn't know who pulled you in, I was going to congratulate you for coming that far into my mind but before you could pull out something pulled you in…'' The King spoke with a very grave expression on his face.

''I've never heard of someone being able to intrude into someone's mind from so far away… But the magical signature is familiar somehow.'' The King pondered whilst looking into the sun that was setting. His great big eyes seemed to be all-knowing when looking out onto his territory.

''They didn't seem to be hostile in any way.'' I told the King but he still seemed doubtful. Which I could understand, it's pretty worrying if someone could do that. They must be immensely powerful for that to happen.

''If someone wanted to do that it would mean that there needed to be some link between you and them, that link is most often some curse.'' The King looked at me and his eyes were filled with great worry. He was actually looking out for me, which I found pretty strange since he hated teaching me. Maybe he liked the bond between me and Lucifer.

The sun was now fully set and you could faintly see the stars above us, the constellations made for a great picture. I always liked the stars, but not so much astrology. I always thought it was strange that people could believe in something that was already faded. You see, the stars that we see in our night sky are actually light from stars that are thousands of lightyears away from us. That means that in actuality the stars would be in a very different position that we see now.

But I still thought it was interesting. You felt so puny looking at the stars, so insignificant, but on the other hand it was kind of funny. Humans are so easily humored, like we see some lights in the sky and we're immediately enamored by them.

I was snapped out of my train of thought when Lucifer was purring on my chest, he had fallen asleep. His purring made the whole earth shake. Lucifer sure was a frightening kitty, but I didn't know what I would do without him. I had been so alone before, even when it was just my mum and my step-dad, but I didn't realise I was feeling alone so I lashed out and begged for attention in my own way.

The King started speaking, ''It's about time you have some rest, I can't imagine how exhausted your mind must be.'' Just when he said those words it's like someone turned off a switch. I almost immediately lost consciousness and fell asleep.

I was dreaming of the dark cloaked figure again when the thunderbird and the phoenix showed up once more. ''I thought you wouldn't be able to contact me again.'' I inquired with the two magical birds.

The thunderbird had an indifferent expression on his… uhh.. beak? I guess it's better to say that he gave off that aura, it was kind of hard to distinguish any facial expression. The phoenix gave off a kind aura, like he was happy to see me again.

The thunderbird spoke in my mind, ''Yeah believe me I'm also getting kind of sick of these rendezvous but this dumbass insists.'' While he said that he looked at the phoenix. The phoenix snarled at him. These two must be close, like they must be family. Their choice in magical beast also gives it away.

The phoenix and thunderbird are closely related, they probably stem from the same family tree. It is said that the first thunderbird was located in America, so they must've mutated when they were over there.

I was not fully convinced that they were looking out for me though. Apparently this Phoenix wants to see me but I'm not sure of his intentions. I wasn't foolish enough to immediately trust him. ''Who are you guys to me?'' I inquired, suddenly the two magical birds grew silent.

You could hear a pin drop, ''Would it affect anything if we told the boy?'' The phoenix asked the thunderbird. The thunderbird seemed to be deep in thought, he was looking at the ground, ''It might, it might not. It's always hard to tell with prophecies.'' The thunderbird spoke wisely.

The phoenix glared at him, ''Ah thanks genius, that helps us out a lot.'' The phoenix said whilst flapping his wings in a chagrined way. In the way they were acting I could probably tell they're related to me somehow. I mean why would they be so hesitant to tell me otherwise?

I decided not to push things, you shouldn't fuck with prophecies, definitely if they're directed at you. ''Which prophecy?'' I asked with a curious tone, the thunderbirds aura suddenly spiked. He seemed angry with me, ''It's not wise to ask your own future boy, if you try to prevent it, it might occur even quicker.'' I immediately shut my mouth. I believe that he was right but I still kind of wanted to know. It was MY future after all, not theirs. I wanted to know if I would die or not.

I opened my mouth to speak again but the phoenix flapped its wings and I shut my mouth again. ''But we're not here for the prophecy. We're here to give you a gift.'' When the phoenix said that they both plucked a tail feather.

''You must choose one for your wand, but not both, if you would choose both the wand would be too unstable. Just imagine us together in a closed space. We would wreak havoc.'' The thunderbird told me in a most serious tone.

I looked at both of the tail feathers. This was a hard choice, I didn't know much about a thunderbird tail feather core but the idea was definitely very interesting. Maybe their ability to conjure storms would benefit Raiden somehow.

I wasn't really interested in the phoenix one because it was cliché. And I don't know what kind of effect it would have if I had the same core as Voldemort and Harry. I know they're not of the same phoenix, but still I wouldn't want to risk it.

''What do they specialise in?'' I inquired, but I directed my question at the thunderbird first. ''A thunderbird tail feather core is good for transfiguration and hard to master. They're also known to be able to sense danger and cast curses on their own. They also fire curses pre-emptively when a supernatural danger is present.'' The thunderbird paused for a minute to make sure I understood and I nodded to let him know he could continue.

''Much like a phoenix core they're also good at the dark arts, but it doesn't come as natural like with the phoenix core. It's all about the user of the wand, but since you're half dark creature I'm sure you can use it to its full potential.'' The thunderbird finished and looked at the phoenix so he knew it was his turn.

The phoenix began talking, ''I'm not going to tell you it's specifications, but I'll tell you this. You have an affinity with phoenixes so I'm sure the wand would listen to you quickly and you could quickly become its master, but this counts for a thunderbird as well. I'm not certain how strong the bond is between you and a thunderbird, however since they're part of the same family I bet you could master them both, your choice.''

I absorbed the information the phoenix and thunderbird told me but I had already made my mind up from the start. A phoenix core is great but I'm really interested in the thunderbird one, will it strengthen my bond between Raiden and I? I just had to find out.

I grabbed the thunderbird tail feather and I thanked it. The majestic bird bowed for me. I was now more sure that I could trust them. They had given me priceless gifts after all. A phoenix core is the strongest core there is and I'm pretty sure a thunderbird core would be around the same level.

The phoenix tail feather that the phoenix had held burst into flames. ''Goodluck on your journey you're going to need it.'' The phoenix said and with those words they slowly disappeared again.

When I woke up I found a thunderbird tail feather in my pocket. It smelt like ozone and it shocked me when I touched it. It had the same magic signature as the thunderbird in my dreams. I couldn't wait to get my wand and finally get to Hogwarts.

[One Week Later]

One week had passed by rather quickly, I continued my training and was now able to break into some of the adult wampus cats minds. But I was pretty sure I still was nowhere near to overpower the defences of any teacher at Hogwarts. They had decades of training after all.

We were on the top of the hill when suddenly a bat came flying towards us. It had a letter in its mouth/beak or something. Don't blame me that I don't know bat anatomy. They're not the most pleasant creatures to look at and I was still not really over the fact that I was now one of the animals that had severely ruined my life in my past life.

The bat turned into a human and suddenly Alaric was running towards me with a letter in his hand. ''Little bro! Bat delivery service here for you!'' I chuckled. Alaric always knew how to cheer me up. I kind of missed him this past week.

Alaric handed me the letter but before I could take it he held out his other hand. ''C'mon you ain't even going to tip your delivery man. You know UBS has a shitty salary dude.'' Alaric said with his trademark devilish grin.

I raised my eyebrow, ''UBS?'' Alaric facepalmed, ''What you don't know about us? United Bat service of America.'' I chuckled but not because of Alaric's play on words. ''Bro that just sounds like you deliver bats.'' This made Alaric laugh as well.

''Now that I think about it kind of does, but here, your letter.'' Alaric handed me the letter and my eyes grew so large I thought they were going to pop out of my skull. I had waited for this moment my entire life. And here it was, my letter.

I opened the letter.

On the end of the letter was McGonagall's personal stamp, so you could see that the letter was authentic. I opened the list of necessary books and equipment. And that was quite a large list.

I needed three sets of plain black work robes, one plain pointed black hat for daywear and one pair of dragon-hide gloves. I also needed loads of books but luckily I had already procured some so they didn't worry me.

When I looked at the list it also said that I needed a wand, I touched the thunderbird tail feather in my pocket when I read that part. I had kept a close watch on the tail feather so nothing happened to it. I treasured it, I wasn't going to lose it because of my own stupidity.

''So when are we going?'' I inquired, Alaric had a broad smile on his face. He apparently was also looking forward to the trip. He had been stuck inside the house since the last one 8 months ago. ''Right now!'' I raised my eyebrow when he said that, ''Are you sure we can go?''

Alaric waved his hand as if in a sign that I didn't need to worry, ''Your mother will join us, she was also excited to see what kind of wand you would get.'' Alaric said in a reassuring tone. So now my magical journey truly began… I couldn't wait.
