An overly confident foe

After faking her nap for a little while longer, Laila felt she had kept it going for long enough to fool Olivia. She 'woke up' from her fake slumber while acting like she was feeling all refreshed and that it was just what she had needed. As she stretched her arms Laila said, "You are indeed a good friend. You knew just what I needed. All my energy has returned, including my good mood. Thank you for watching over me as I took that nap." Wondering if Olivia would tell her the truth if she asked about it, especially considering she was in the room when it happened, Laila asked, "Did anything happen while I was asleep?"

Laila's compliments seemed to have stroked Olivia's ego a bit and an unwilling smile started to appear on her face as she confidently said, "Of course I knew what you needed. Now that you know how good of a friend I am, you should consider how you treat me. Getting mad at me for disciplining a maid or contacting your husband for your own good. But no, nothing happened. How could anything happen when I am in charge and keeping watch."

Laila fought the urge to roll her eyes and just smiled at Olivia's words but continued to flatter her already huge ego as she needed to repair some of the damage she had caused before. Plus, the higher the rise, the harder the fall. "Ah yes, kind, caring and reliable. It is a miracle that no one has claimed you as their own yet. A wonderful friend is sure to make a wonderful wife as well." Seeing the smile on the woman's face involuntarily widen once more Laila asked her a follow-up question. Laila glanced at her watch and said in a bit of an annoyed voice, "Did Noah not come to check up on me at all? Don't tell me he forgot all about me now that you are here?"

Laila saw the thoughts and the bad intentions flash by in Olivia's eyes before she said, "Not while I was here but then again he is a VERY busy man. I don't even know if he noticed I was here. I am sure he is just focussed on his work and has had no time to worry about his wife, who is perfectly fine but is just being a bit of a drama queen." Laila knew Olivia was saying these things because she wanted to cause trouble between her and Noah but even so, she felt herself get mad at the blatant lies the woman was spreading. How could she say that about her kind hearted Noah, who was blissfully unaware that his name was being tarnished down here.

Laila figured she would make it a bit harder on Olivia by saying "Oh that is strange. I could have sworn I felt him touching my head while I was asleep. It felt so real. Where did that sense of a touch come from I wonder?" But Olivia didn't flinch at all as she said, "Well you already answered your own question there. You were asleep. Who knows what kind of silly dreams you were having while you were off in your own little world. We all want a man to care for us enough to interrupt their busy schedule to come check up on us and stroke our heads when we have fallen asleep, instead of waking us for what they want. Any woman would love a man like that but I don't think they exist outside of our dreams."

Laila let Olivia finish her jealousy soaked words and pretended to be upset at Noah as she said, "Is that so...Well we will have to see. Because if he thinks that he can get away with just taking what he needs from me and then just ignore me for his work, Noah has another thing coming." With a frown she got up and acted like she was getting ready to give Noah a piece of her mind. Giving her a perfect excuse to boot her unwanted guest out of her house.

"Sorry Olivia. I think it might be best if you leave. I am sure you still have a lot to do and I have already taken up so much of your time. You helped me take the rest I much needed." Under her breath and with crossed arms Laila mumbled, "Something that husband of mine didn't realize when he woke me so early this morning. Not even checking up on me." From the corner of her eye Laila saw that Olivia was smirking, which meant that her intentional loud mumblings had been heard and had the desired effect.

With the perfect act of 'the best friend' she said, "Oh of course dear. You know you can always ask for my help. Think nothing of it. What else are friends for, right?" Laila smiled and said, "Indeed. With a friend as good as you, it makes makes me wonder how I managed to find a husband like this." Olivia let out a haughty laughter before she said, "Trouble in paradise dear? You were speaking words of praise just moments ago. Did the nap change your misplaced anger from me to dear Noah? You can't possibly be angry at him for just doing his job right? All men are like this. The sooner you realise this, the better." Not realizing that Laila had been onto her from the very beginning, meaning her words would have no effect on their marriage at all. Though Laila was fine with letting her believe that they did as an overly confident foe is an easily defeated foe.
