Hearing this, Jake was in a clear state of panic as he realized that he had been caught and that his 'innocent encounter' with Laila, had been the last step in her preparation of a full blown attack. Suzy was in utter shock and had turned completely pale as she tried to deny that Laila's words could hold any truth. While she was stammering, "You are lying" over and over again, she turned towards Jake. Hoping that he would deny the claims and prove to her that they were lying. But although Jake did say that they were lying and trying to frame him, Laila and Maria would be the ones to deliver proof.
Suzy was now ignoring the people that had gathered around them because of the commotion and Maria and Laila for that matter. She was fully focused on Jake as her shock was making way for anger. With crossed arms she stood before Jake and asked him, "If they are lying, tell me, where were you last night?"
"I told you babe, I was at a business dinner."
"A business dinner is no reason for you to not come home for the night. So, where were you and who were you with."
Thinking that he was safe since Savannah was in fact also a colleague and being sure that there was no way for Laila and Maria to have filmed what had happened behind closed doors, Jake stuck to his lie. "I really was at dinner with a colleague. The only reason I didn't come home is, that I had a bit too much to drink. So, it wasn't smart for me to drive back home and I didn't want to wake you up as it had gotten quite late. You know how these things go. So, I decided to stay the night at the hotel above the restaurant and I returned home to you first thing in the morning. I didn't even have breakfast there because I wanted to get back to you as soon as possible and have my first meal of the day with you."
His sweet talking was about to sway Suzy when Maria interrupted their conversation. "Why don't you tell her Jake, was that colleague a man or a woman and did you sleep in that room alone?"
If looks could kill, then the look in Jake's eyes would have surely incinerated Maria right there on the spot because as soon as she said this, Suzy too became very curious to the answers of these questions. "Yeah, tell me Jake. Who was this person? Don't tell me you shared a room with them. I want to see your bank and credit card statement. I want to see what kind of room you purchased."
Maria was loving Jake getting in trouble like this and went for the 'the enemy of my enemy is my friend' approach as she cheered Suzy on. "Great thinking Suzy. Bank statements don't lie. Clear up all the details. What was the reason for this dinner and why was it just you and that one colleague?"
Jake had no time to worry about Maria as he was too busy trying to salvage the situation. "I am telling you babe, it was just a celebration dinner for a successful deal. It shouldn't matter if the other person was a man or a woman because it would still be nothing more than a colleague and you are my lovely girlfriend. Why would I be with you for all this time and then just throw it all away for one night? Yes, I did sleep in a two person room but that was because that was all they had available at that moment. It was not like I was in any position to be picky as I was the one in need of a room in the middle of a night at a last moment's notice."
But Maria wouldn't be Maria if she didn't immerse herself fully in her newly acquired role and give the assist she felt her temporary 'friend' needed. "You always were great at keeping the important details out of your lies and now I see why. That way you can spin them in your favour, right Jake? I wouldn't trust him Suzy. Why would it just be him and that other person. No one else that deserved to celebrate that deal? If I was you, I would call the hotel and ask them if they really had no other type of rooms available. Don't let him talk his way out of this mess."
Laila, who had kept quiet after she had dropped this bomb, decided to chime in at this point and said, "Or you could just look at our evidence and see for yourself who is lying here."
Maria didn't even wait for her answer and walked over to show Suzy what they had compiled, feeling happy that she had decided to keep their compilation on her phone in case Laila would change her mind. Suzy watched just the first few seconds before she pulled Maria's phone out of her hand to get a closer look. "Isn't this the same girl you told me not to worry about? If this is a celebration of your deal, why is there a birthday cake?! Why are people singing and why are you giving her a gift?! WHY?!"
Apparently this was enough evidence for Suzy, who had been the other woman herself once before and could therefore recognize the signs. Without seeing the rest or listening to another word of Jake's excuses, Suzy began hitting Jake with her expensive, designer purse, repeating that one word over and over. Interrupting it only to curse him out and call him names. Once she had gotten her initial anger out, Suzy stormed off into the crowd and left Jake behind, giving him no time to think of another excuse or attempt to explain.
