The bags had been unpacked, dinner had been eaten, and a fire had been started in the fireplace in the living room. Laila and Noah were sitting on a rug on the floor, watching the flames as they had a warm drink to match the mood. While Noah's back was leaning against the sofa, Laila was leaning against his chest, seemingly having forgotten all about what had happened earlier that day. As they were snuggled up under a single blanket, they were talking, sharing stories of their past and their hopes for the future. Their talks were intended to bring them closer, let them rediscover each other and give them the chance to see if they were still as good a match as they once were.
During the talks about the future, Laila told Noah that she wanted to build a company of her own. She told him about how she had started up a business in her previous life after she got out of her slump of losing her baby. That she had built her own clothing brand and that it was quite successful. She wanted to use her knowledge of her previous life to start up her business once more, this time not making the same mistakes she had made before. During her previous life she had to learn the tips and tricks when it comes to doing business one step at a time. She had to learn it by making mistakes, by falling down over and over again and getting up just as often. After a year of struggling, her business started doing well and before she knew it, she was working among the best in the industry.
Laila told Noah all about how she had climbed her way to the top with a big smile on her face that revealed all the joy that company had brought her and all the passion she had for the industry she worked in. Hearing her talk like this and seeing her look so happy about something from her past, something he had not been a part of, made him want to be a part of it now. He wanted to allow Laila to achieve her dreams faster with his help. But he was quickly rejected.
"I appreciate your offer but I need to do this on my own. I need to do this for our son. So that he can know his mother was able to achieve something. That she isn't some weak little princess who has had everything handed to her by others. I have done it once before and I know I can do it again. I will pave my own way and make it, like I did in my previous life. In order to not be a constant burden on you, I need to do this on my own."
Noah was shocked and quickly started to refute her words while scolding Laila at the same time. "You are NOT weak and I have NEVER considered you a burden. I'm fine with you wanting to spread your wings and do something on your own but don't talk about yourself like that. Ever. Even as a joke."
Laila chuckled, making upper body move up and down and push it away and back against Noah's chest. She didn't mean to upset Noah or rile him up like this but her words had seemed to have an unexpected effect on him. But she needed to make sure that he wouldn't try to help her secretly as this was one thing she wanted to do on her own. By using those hard learned lessons from before to her advantage this time around, Laila was certain that she could make her business a success from the start. Though she could make it even bigger if she allowed Noah to help her out, she wanted to see how far she could make it without his help. She wanted to see what she could achieve on her own and see the fruits of her labour after putting in her blood, sweat and tears.
Once she knew she could keep a straight face and after she had rid her voice of the remnants of her laughter, Laila responded to Noah's strong words. "Yes. I'm sorry. You are right. I should have known better than to use those words. I just wanted to add a little drama to my words in order to strengthen the message. I didn't think it would affect you in this way. So, you can calm down. I wasn't trying to talk myself down. I just wanted to let you know that there is more in me that I haven't been able to let out yet. At least not in this life."
Noah let out a soft sigh as he released the tension in his body and relaxed. He pulled Laila in tighter and squeezed his face against hers. "I have no doubt that you have yet to reach your full potential and that you will become the best of the best at whatever you do. After al, you are my wife and only a woman of many talents could so fully capture me. Since the day I have known you, I have seen you struggle many times but you never gave up. You continued to push yourself until you achieved what you wanted, one way or another. Through each hardship I have seen you grow and that turned you into the woman you are today. So, I am sure that by facing this alone, you will become an even more amazing person than you already are."
