She barely made it to the flight in time but it wasn't her boss's fault, the real cause was that she simply overslept. After all that had happened the day before she was completely and utterly destroyed and immediately fell asleep but not before booking new tickets. She was frantically gasping for air when she finally sat down on her seat. It didn't take long until the classic announcements were made and the flight attendants came to show the safety measures in case of an emergency.
"Ladies and gentleman please fasten your seatbelts as we are about to depart"
Her seat was at the window so she could have a look at the New Yorker city light and how they got smaller and smaller in the distance. In order to recover the lost sleep and given the early hour, she decided to use the opportunity to take a nap.
"Dear guests we will land in Las Vegas in about fifteen minutes, please close the tables and fasten your seatbelts for the landing."
The loud voice coming from the intercom system interrupted her well-earned sleep. She did as said through the speakers and took the wallet she found in her apartment, out of her handbag. In it were around a hundred bucks, some pennies, an ID card that after a second glance proved to be false and a printed out, informational pamphlet, of a museum in Las Vegas. After deciding that she would search for him, she immediately booked the next possible flight to LA since the only clue was pointing in that direction. The things she brought with her were a backpack with some spare clothes and a small toilet bag. These were purchased a long time ago when she still dreamed of travelling the world, which she never ended up doing. Obviously, her grandparents were informed beforehand with the excuse that something came up at work.
"I hope I won't regret this later on. Why did I even do something crazy like this? Search for a man you just ran over a day ago in a city far away from home, only to return his wallet. Not to forget about his mysterious identity and the fact that he put me in some serious trouble."
Ending her thoughts was the plane that initiated the landing manoeuvre and with some shaking and rumbling she finally arrived at her destination.
"And how did I even thought of finding him? I mean he was back in New York and I highly doubt that he is going to take the plane since he is wanted. That's just ridiculous what did go through my mind when I looked into that wallet. Haaa... well now that I'm here might as well try my luck at the museum. Hopefully, someone knows something about him otherwise I would have made all the way here for nothing."
Finally, her backpack showed up on the conveyor belt, she took it and put it on her back. It wasn't too heavy since the original plan was to only go on vacation for a day.
"I should have gone to my grandparents as I always did during m..."
She immediately interrupted her mumbling the moment she saw someone standing at the exit holding a sign with the name Jack Andrews, it was the exact same name that was written on the fake ID. That was the perfect opportunity since apparently, he had planned on taking the same plane as she did. Knowing that Amber went to the side and waited if someone went to the person holding the sign. Minutes passed but no one was coming and as the last people that had boarded the plane left, she promptly decided to personally approach him.
He was wearing a flat cap and his nose was noticeably large. His clothes reeked from smoke and he had a tired look on his face.
"Eeem excuse me?"
"Yes, how can I help you, madame?"
"I saw you holding this sign with my husband's name on it so I presumed that you are his guide?"
"Not his guide but taxi driver, he ordered one beforehand. I didn't know he had a wife but that shouldn't be an issue as long as you pay I can fit both of you in my car. But I can't see your husband, where is he?"
"Sadly he couldn't come since he was involved in a car accident, therefore, he sent me as a replacement."
"Oh, I hope it was nothing severe. In that case, follow me please, madam."
"No, thankfully he didn't sustain any bad injuries but for safety reasons, he'll stay a day longer in the hospital."
She hid her nervousness by clenching her fist but luckily everything went smoothly. The driver led her to the taxi and opened the door for her. After he sat down on the steering wheel, he immediately switched on some calm jazz music.
"Where are we headed to madam?"
"To the museum please."
"The museum it is then."
He started the engine and drove towards her destination. There was no museum in sight when he suddenly pulled over the car in a nearby alley.
"Hey what are you doing! Why are you pulling over?!" She nervously pulled on the door but without success, it was locked.
Panic showed on her face and she already thought about all sorts of things that could happen to her in this situation.
"You are not Mr Andrews wife and neither do you know him because he doesn't exist, right miss?"
