Live changing decision

"Hello Grandpa, yea it's me. It will take a while until I can come to you since I had a little accident. Yes, I... yes yes I'm alright you don't need to worry."

She hung up the phone and looked on the couch where the young man was lying. His story seemed more like that of a drug addict rather than something that would really happen. Or maybe he was running away from the police and came up with this excuse. Either way, she decided to neither call the police nor to bring him to the hospital, given the fact that he didn't have any major injuries. For safety reasons, she decided to tie his hands together with a rope and prepared her taser for the worst case.

"I don't know why I brought him here especially after hearing what he said, he is either crazy, a drug addict or a fugitive and all three of those options don't sound really promising. Maybe I feel guilty for running him over or was I just curious about his story? Even if what he said would be true, that would still be a threat to me since whoever is chasing him will now come after me, so why did you do this Amber? I also can't leave him like this it looks like I kidnapped him."

He was still lying unconscious on her couch while she was attentively watching over him prepared to use the taser at any moment. But she got annoyed pretty fast of just sitting there tensed up and waiting that he wakes up. Therefore she decided to put on the television while waiting. Exhausted as she was she nearly fell asleep until two loud knocks at the door suddenly startled her.

"Here speaks the NYPD, please open the door we would like to ask you some questions!" A deep voice came from the other side of the door.

"Miss, please open we just want to ask some questions!" They knocked again this time louder.

In a panic, she quickly threw a blanket over the unconscious men and put the taser in her hand into the hoodie's pocket. She then went to the door and looked through the peephole. Two officers were standing in front of her apartment door. They seemed to be real policemen according to the uniform, badge and other gear they were wearing.

"This is strange why is the police here? Maybe his story wasn't a lie after all. No that's just bullshit they probably need something else." The thought quickly went away as an officer knocked two more times.

"We know that you are at home so please open the door, Miss."

Reluctantly she opened the door a crack wide.

"How may I help you, officers?"

"We are searching for this young man he is in his twenties and really dangerous. The last time he was seen, was around this block. Did you see him or do you have any information about his whereabouts?" One of the officers held up a wanted poster with a picture of the men that was lying on her couch.

"The location of the incident is several miles away, there is no way that they would search for him here and why do they come exactly to my apartment? I made sure to check my surroundings, there was no one around when the incident happened. Something is terribly wrong here." She became wary of the two alleged police officers.

"I... I've never seen this man, sorry but I will let you know as soon as I have any information about him"

She tried to quickly close the door but one of the two officers put his foot between the door and the angel.

"Can we enter for a moment he might have sneaked into your apartment without you noticing it?"

"No, you can't without a warrant." She slowly put her hand in the pocket where the taser was.

A loud noise was audible from within her apartment and the two officers immediately force opened the door and pushed her aside.

"What do you think you are doing, barging in my house without my consent!"

"Where is he?"

"Who? I am living alone in my apartment in case you didn't notice."

On the couch where some minutes ago was lying the wanted man, was now nothing more than a blanket while a movie was currently running on the television.

"And what about the noise we just heard?"

"I don't know probably the TV but I don't even care about that now, you'll leave my apartment immediately" Her neighbours started to open the doors attracted by the screams and noise they came to look at what was going on.

"Yes, Mam, sorry Mam"

"Your superiors will hear from me!" She closed the door behind them and crumbled on the floor.

"Puh that was a close call, apparently there is some truth behind his story but where did he go?"

She walked to the place he was lying and sat down thinking about everything that happened to her in the past hours.

"Heh, what a shitty day. I need a good fresh beer now after all that happened today."

The moment she stood up a wallet fell from the couch, it probably was his'. She quietly stood still for a short while staring at the wallet, she could simply bring it to the police or throw it away and everything would belong to the past. The fear of the unknown made her tremble, then what happens if she opens the wallet?
