Siege Battle 1

The world trembled.

Dark Clouds covered the sky.

All of a sudden, lightning struck the ground just 50 feet away fro the wall with a loud BOOM. It was at that moment that the beast siege started. Thousands upon thousands of beasts charged through the edge of the forest a mile away and charged towards the towns wall. The beasts levels ranged from 1 to 5. Individually, they were quite weak. However, in masses such as this, it would be terrifying. The players on the wall started to panic and shout. Some started cursing the game creators.

"What the fuck!? Why would they do this shit? It is basically guaranteed that we will lose two levels!"

"Once this is over, I am gonna complain to these bastards! Who is with me?"

Ares noticed that things were spiraling downward and people were already losing their morale. If this continued on, the battle would be over before it even began. Letting out a sigh, he did the one thing that people would look up to in situations like these. Leadership and Power. True Power. He jumped off the 20 foot high wall. he took a few hit points worth of damage, but it didn't matter for him. he landed and prepared to face off against the horde who were quickly approaching. The players on the wall noticed his actions very quickly.

"What the hell is this crazy person doing?"

"Does he want to die?"

"Hey, idiot! Get back up here! You are gonna get slaughtered!"

He ignored them. In order to quell the loss of morale, he had to do something. Something big. This was the only way he could think of. He started activating his skills. He cast his fire dragon and lightning dragons, which stood on his left and right sides. Then, under the surprised eyes of the players on the walls, he charged towards the incoming tide of beasts.

"WHAT! He's charging toward them?"

"Did he give up on life?"

While they questioned him and what was going through his head, Ares had closed the gap between him and the swarm to 50 or so feet within seconds. He then unleashed the rest of his skills.

Water wave!

Chain Lightning!

Earth Spikes.

These three skills alone decimated hundreds of monsters instantly. He was just getting started. The dragons he summoned were moving with him and attacking as well. Each one was decimating dozens, if not hundreds of beasts with each attack. No attack were less than 400. Majority of the beasts in the horde only had HP of around 200. The HP he had seen so far from the beasts was only 500. With his magic attack power at 840, the monsters were getting one shotted. The burn affects from the fire dragon and his fiery arrows were not activated because the beasts would die immediately. Not even a minute had passed and he had killed over a thousand beasts. He did not stop there.

He summoned wind swords in his hands and charged toward the beasts to continue his ruthless slaughter. Meanwhile, the players on the wall were watching with dumbfounded expressions on their faces. They couldn't believe what they were witnessing right now, a one man army slaughtering thousand s of beasts with ease. Not even a minute ago, they thought he was going to kill himself using the beast army. Now, they thought they themselves were going crazy. No one could blame them. one person killing thousands of beasts alone within minutes? Who would believe that. But, alas, it was happening right in front of their eyes. Some even turned on the systems video recorder to record what was happening. This video would eventually be posted on the web and be the number 1 video in the world for months, but that was a story for another time.

All of a sudden while they were watching almost mesmerized, they heard a loud shout, coming from Ares who was swarmed on all sides by beasts.

"WHAT ARE YOU GUYS WAITING FOR? FIGHT! FOR PRIDE OF PLAYERS! FOR THE SURVIVAL OF THE TOWN! AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, FOR THE REWARDS!"

Hearing these words, the players watching the butcher show finally came out of their stupor. Their battle intents raised to the max and they raised their arms and gave loud battle cries before jumping off the wall and into the monster tide joining the battle. Thousands of players joined the battle. The monsters surge slowed down further with the addition of defenders. Despite thousands joining the killing, they could barely surpass the rate at which Ares killed.

As Ares killed, he realized he didn't get any EXP. He frowned at this as his level would have sky rocketed. But it made a sort of sense. By the end of the war, he would easily been level 20. However, he was not too saddened by this discovery. He would still get two levels by the end of it though. That would be good enough. Also, despite him not getting EXP, he still got coins. Each monster he had killed granted him between 0 and 5 silver. The war had just started and he had earned over 3000 silver. He did not even have to pick them up, as they went straight to his inventory. This discovery willed him to kill even faster. It was already guaranteed that he would be first in the rankings for the town so he just wanted to get as much extra benefits now.

Across the battlefield, players fought bravely. Mages casted their spells, priests healed, assassins performed sneak attacks, and hunters shot their bows. It was complete chaos. The monsters were slowly being eliminated. However, death not only happened to the beasts, players were killed as well, although not at the alarming rate the beasts were. With the savagery of the beasts, the players deaths were not pretty. They were quite terrifying. One warrior had his limbs ripped from his body and flesh eaten. He felt it all. Another mage had his skin flayed from a fire elemental. Death was quite hard to watch, especially for new players and those with a weak heart, but those hard core players and expert players who basically lived on games battlefield for years understood the truth. Death was not a stranger in the battlefield. In fact, it was an opportunity, an opportunity to refine yourself and your will and resolve. Only after going through battles like these could you be considered a true fighter/warrior.

Ares had already understood these truth. That was the reason why he also didn't save anyone from their deaths as he thought that they needed to experience pain and death firsthand to truly grow stronger. he just continued on his slaughter, unleashing skill after skill, and swinging his wind swords at beast who got too close. The battle continued for another 2 or so hours before a loud war rang out from a distance. The beasts heard the roar, trembled a bit, and started to retreat. The players seeing this started to cheer believing that they had just beat back the siege and was easier than they thought.

Ares on the other hand, was not thinking the same as them. He thought that things were not that simple. a few minutes later, the system had confirmed his thoughts.

Siege Update: Wave 1 completed. Wave 2 will start in 10 minutes. All players will be rewarded based on their performance in the first wave. Rewards will be sent to their mailboxes within 5 minutes. Good luck to all.

With this system update, the battlefield turned deathly quiet. One could hear the light wind blow and a needle falling in the grass. The eerie silence lasted for a couple minutes before chaos resumed.

"Wave 1? What the fuck? There are more than 1 waves?"

"Screw you system? You are just toying with us. We could barely survive the first wave, how the hell are we supposed to survive the second?!"

The players started to riot, yelling and complaining. The morale instantly tanked. Witnessing this happen for the second time, Ares shook his head and started to relax and prepare for the next wave. They system has surprised him with that message. the fact that there was another wave was not that surprising. The fact that they would get rewarded for their performance in each wave was the surprising part. This made the siege even more worth while. He couldn't wait to find out how it rated his performance and what he got from it. He waited for the rewards to be sent patiently.

5 minutes later

Ding. You have received a new message.

Ares heard the notification and opened up his mailbox. At that time the other players had calmed down for the most part and they also received the same notification. They opened theirs as well. With an eager expression, he saw who the message was from. Not shockingly it was from the system. The subject of the message was wave 1 performance evaluation and rewards. Not hesitating a second later, Ares opened the message.
