Chapter 24

Ever seen those movies where a group of people hijack a moving vehicle, Looks simple enough doesn't it? Well hahaha, it's not.

"No, I'm not doing it."

"It's your mission, you can't say no."

"But."

Lynne was not having any of my drama, a Stern look from her grey eyes made me shut down any objections I had. With a heavy heart and a long sigh of defeat, I nodded.

"Good." Lynne said, "once the target is within reach, the plan will unravel."

Easy for you to say you're not the one going to jump off to another vehicle speeding at minimum 80kms/mph per hour, the mere thought of slipping up brought shivers down my spine. Letting out a huff of breath to at least still my racing heart and shaking nerves, I didn't like this plan one bit but again I don't have a say in the matter.

"Target is reaching the extraction point in just about, now!"

At the driver's words, four sixteen-wheeled trucks zoomed past us, we waited till the last one before we came out of our hiding spot; behind a boulder surrounded by trees and bushes. We pulled through the road speeding to get close to the back of the last truck, as we got closer the two steel doors opened both secured by two guys.

"Good luck kid."

The way she said that in the most unencouraging tone ever made me roll my eyes at her, annoyed at how little she cared about my wellbeing. Grabbing the gun on her holster making it my own, I climbed out the window. Instantly getting hit by the cold and harsh winds the cool sensation spreading throughout my skin; making the hair on my arms stand up, gripping the frame I ventured up to the hood of the jeep while making sure not to fall and die an unavoidable death along the way. Feeling the rush of adrenaline pumping to my veins at the brave act, I'm pretty sure at this point the adrenaline was the only thing that was keeping me going and if it wears off then I'm doomed.

"I need to get closer."

Shouting at the top of my lungs so that the driver could hear it, with a honk; the car speed a little more making me grab the frame tighter, knuckles white and lightly numb in doing so but I held on just to not get blown away by the strong wind force. When the car and the storage compartment were only a few meters away from each other, I started to ease up into a standing position, legs a little wobbly and heart-pounding like crazy but without a second thought; I jumped.

My landing was not as graceful as I expected to be, landing face-first on the floor with a thump, upper body aching and throbbing while my legs numb from the adrenaline.

"Just a little heads up, I got that all on cam." Blue snickered

"Shut up."

"Just letting you know."

I could hear him laughing through the earpiece, irritating me more than it should be but after that, the earpiece beeped, a sign; which means the line between us has been cut off. Letting out a groan, I start picking myself up.

The inside of the trailer was dark save for a little lamp on the side, the two guys who held the doors earlier were now both beside me watching me attentively. The one on my right made a move to help me which I declined right away.

"We are almost to the target, please get into position." The guy on my left said in Russian but was easily translated to English afterward.

I gave him a nod as he leads me to the farthest side of the truck, wooden crates lined up the wall; some are smaller than me but there were also some that I could fit in. Lifting the cover, the guy gestured at me to go in. Inside the box was a little cramped as I still have to pull my knees to my chest to fit in but also spacious enough for me to shift around and not be claustrophobic. The guy then closed the lid, making sure it's not closed too tightly, a small crack to let the air in and not suffocate me to death.

It was dark and everything seemed to be peaceful well except for the vibrations of the truck, the low hum of the engine can be heard in the background. Hugging my knees closer to my chest just to feel a sense of comfort in the cramped space, I'm pretty sure I was minutes close to having a full-on panic attack. Chest heavy and breath getting shorter

'Keep yourself together, this isn't the place for that.'

Brushing off the triggering thoughts forming in my head, burying those memories deep in the abyss; where they rightfully belong.

'Ok, you got this just breath.'

Repeating the mantra over and over again while taking in huge gulps of breaths to calm my trembling form, I sat there for a good 5 minutes before finally calming myself down as my almost panic attack subsided;

I felt the truck stop.

There were sounds of murmurs outside my box, some harsh whispers between the two men. I flinch as the metal doors banged open and a new voice surfaced, he mostly shouted commands and orders around me. He exchanged a few words in Russian with the two men, the voices become louder as the sound of pattering footsteps came closer. My breath hitched, heart started beating like crazy as if it was gonna leap out from my chest. It got worse when the footsteps stopped in front of me, I cupped my mouth with both hands, scared that I may let out a sound, body stiff as the conversation continued outside. It took them a few minutes before finally walking away, the sound of footsteps retreating further and further away. Once the doors of the truck slammed shut, only did I let out the breath I didn't know I was holding. Slumping back on the crate with a huff, trying to calm down the bundle of nerves that kept me fidgeting on my spot. Once I stilled myself, I pressed the earpiece, waiting a few moments for a short beep before speaking.

"I'm in."

My voice was a little bit off making me cough to get it back to shape, good thing it wasn't shaky though that would have been embarrassing.

"Good for you noob, totally didn't believe you'd get this far."

The amount of sarcasm in that sentence went unnoticed as I rolled my eyes at him.

"Aren't you forgetting something?" I said instead avoiding the urge to bicker back

There was a pause on the other line followed by shuffling

"Commencing blood bath in 3...2...1"

And just like that, a huge explosion echoed through my background.

I could hear people screaming and barking orders outside of the truck, thunderous footsteps soon followed. Everyone running to where the commotion is, making it easier for me to slip out of the vehicle. Ducking in between another truck and the one I emerge from, I carefully check my coordinates. The map appeared on the screen of my glasses informing me that I was currently in the East Wing, the surveillance room was at the West wing. Which means I need to cross the whole house to get there.

I mentally groaned

The extraction room was empty save for me and the trucks, everyone was probably busy with the commotion outside. Peaking to my right to spot any surveillance cameras and there were a lot, mentally counting them to be 2 in total; one on the farthest side and the other one on my left.

Silently sauntering forward to the sides where the blind spots were, ducking to avoid getting caught, I made my way out of the room. Through a door that leads up to the main hall, on the other side there were another set of guards armed with shotguns and were running to the door. I hid behind one of the marble pillars, careful to not be seen. It took me a couple of minutes for them to disperse before venturing forward, the screen was flashing a big arrow at me to move up the grand stairs like the pillars were also made of clear, smooth marble.

I moved up the stairs fast as I can, gripping the handrails to not accidentally slip up and hurt myself, wincing at the screams of horror and never-ending gunshots outside. Shaking the sounds out of my head, I climb up faster. Upon arriving on the second floor; I bolted. Following the arrow until I was face to face with a metal door, at the side was a key panel. The door needed six numbers to unlock and with a quick scan with my glasses hacking through the system, the metal door opened. The guy who was in there yelped in shock at the sudden intrusion, he was somewhere in his mid-30s, scrawny with deep eye bags under his eyes after seeing me he shrieked, scrambling to unsheathe his gun. Before he could get it out from his hostler, I swiftly dashed towards him and karate chop him by the neck, hitting the right veins to put him into sleep, making him pass out for the next couple of minutes.

His limp body crashes down to the ground.
