Chapter 4: Her voice

Calypso's P.O.V.

*tok! tok! tok! *

"Cal! Let's eat!"

I lifted my sleepy head and looked at the door like a drunk person.

Meh…

I dropped it again on the soft pillow and closed my eyes for a bit.

J-Just give me… five,

"F-five minutes"

… hmm

"hoooo…" nope, I don't trust myself in this. I know myself too well, it won't only take five minutes.

I stood up straight from bed and went to the bathroom. I'm not good at having someone to talk to, especially in the morning. I want first to do my thing. I have my towel with me, I fetched water from the bucket of running wate—

So coooold!

My eyes and nose holes were just shocked right when that cold water touched my skin!

After taking a bath and wearing my clothes, I sit together with them. I joined them as they were eating. We're now planning about climbing the mountain, and that would be next week! Finn's just fixing things up for our safety hiking.

After breakfast, Finn asked me if I could accompany him to the store. He carried a box of cheesecake that we bought yesterday in the town market.

We went there, no one was on the line so we went straight to the store window. I saw Lyrie displaying up goods.

"Hi, Lyrie..." Finn greeted her with a smile about to reach his ears.

"I bought this for you," he said, placing the container on the counter.

She looked at it and looked back to Finn with her simple smile,

"Thanks," she replied.

I forced myself not to laugh at them.

Whahahaha...

I remembered her reaction when I talked to her last-last night. I saw how she tried to hide her reaction, being teased to Finn. I just want to make a difference because I always get to see her straight face. Maybe I use that to tease her as long as I can.

I noticed her eyes switched to my direction.

! ! !

She smiled and waved her hand. I looked back, no one's there, I looked back at her and nodded.

I guess she's referring to me. I'm just checking.

So as Finn, he turned his head around and looked at me then he looked back at Lyrie,

"You knew each other?" he asked, Lyrie nodded.

"Yup!" I replied as well, nodding.

Finn took a glance at each of us before slightly pouting his lips while nodding.

"That's great.." he said. Couple of seconds later, his brows raised like he remembered something. He looked at Lyrie,

"Oh! I almost forgot. We're planning to hike on the mountain" he pointed his fingers where it is located,

"We were already settling things to make it happen. I-I just wonder if you could come with us.. It would be fun!" he said, convincing Lyrie.

I didn't know we're allowed to have plus one, I should've brought my mom. Hahaha.

I looked at Lyrie. Her brows were slightly expressing she's a bit confused by what she just heard.

"Don't worry! Ate Jade, a local, will accompany us throughout the day. She's an elder since we need a guide"

Lyrie nodded,

"Yeah, I know her. But…" she looked at the counter, then placed back her sight to Finn,

"Are you sure you want me to join?"

"Yes, I'm sure" Finn replied fast.

"Why?" she asked with his head tilted.

"Because I…" Finn looked at me,

"W-We want to make friends, and I think that would be you" he looked back at Lyrie.

Oh, would you look at those words, so majestic.

Lyrie blinked many times slowly, then she just bowed her head, thinking. Then, she raised her head and put a smirk on her lips. She looked at him and nodded.

What? She's flattered, isn't she?

"Ok then, I'll join you" she replied.

After that time, Finn and I walked while this guy with me had his so wide smile. He was like walking on the moon and jumping like a kid.

I think Ralph got it right when he said, this will help him move on.

. . .

"Bro! Can you do me a favor? Just one, run and buy me a sinigang mix to the store. I can't find the last I pack I just bought" James asked, having his hand placed to his hips, mixing something inside the cauldron set on the stove.

In a way, I just remembered my mom posing exactly like that. Hahaha.

"Gonna make Sinigang without Sinigang Mix, really?" I said teasing him.

His face slowly turned into a frown and--

"Just hurry up! I can't leave thiiiiiiis!"

Hahaha. Peevish.

I stepped outside and made my way to the store. It's already seven thirty, the store might close in a few minutes.

Surely I could not see anything without these light streets on my way. It's pretty dark out here. I wonder why they took so long.

If Finn would be the one James asked to buy this thing, he might be jumping in excitement to see Lyrie. But yeah, he's not here for a while, James and I were just left to guard the house. They went to Ate Jade to confirm our climb next week.

I took a glance at the mountain. It's barely visible right now. And it makes me more excited to get up there. Imagining how the Barrio is supposed to look like from above. It might look like an awesome maze--

"~Why do birds suddenly appear?~"

I heard someone singing somewhere.

"~Every time you are near?~"

I knew it's quite far, it's coming somewhere.

"~Just like me, they long to be..

Close to you~"

That voice is clear and cold. It's beautiful. I kept my head finding where it was coming from. While my feet follow where my ears tell it to go.

"~Why do stars fall down from the sky..

Every time you walk by?~"

Who are you?

I found myself at the front of the store.

"~Just like me, they long to be..~"

Am I guessing the right person? Or I'm just being pranked by somebody?

"~Close to you…"

I think I'm guessing right.

I quietly walked through the store, and stopped right in front of the window, waiting for her to continue singing.

"~On the day that you were born the angels got together and decided to create a dream come true~"

I can't believe I get to hear her voice, and I was like listening to an artist. I can't help not to close my eyes, listening.

"~So they sprinkled moon dust in your hair of gold and starlight in your eyes of blue..~"

"Your voice is good, really"

I kept waiting for seconds but I heard nothing anymore. I started to open my eyes and it continued to bulge!

S-She's looking at me! Startled as well!

Shoooot! What am I doing!

I turned away my eyes from her.

What now?!

"A-Ahmm… gonna buy something?" I heard her asked!

Yeah I'm here to buy something.. now what is it?

Toothpaste? Toothbrush? Shampoo? Soap? Sugar!? What is it--AH!

Sinigang mix!

I looked at her,

"Sinigang mix, just one pack, please"

She nodded before turning around to get it. I just looked at my feet, trying to sink in what I just did. I turned back my gaze and saw her coming towards me. She handed the sachet and so put down my coins.

I looked at her.

I can't believe it's really her.

"Your voice is beautiful"

! ! !

Shoooot! Why did I have to say that?!

"Tss" she chuckles sarcastically.

That gave me relief. I'm thankful she's cool with it.

Hooooo…

"Popping out anywhere has been your habit" she whispered.

I'm confused why too…

"I'm sorry.. but really, your voice is really good," I nodded,

"You could be a… vocalist" I said, drawing an imaginary placard on the air.

"Hahahahahaha…"

I stopped. This was the first time seeing her laugh. Oh why does it have to be so pleasant to watch--wait WHAT!?

No no no no! I didn't say that!

"A-Ahm… I mean, you could be a vocalist, or soloist if you want to" I said, nodding.

She smiled.

Oh my heart---dog!

"Are you applying to be my manager?" she asked sarcastically.

"Nah, hahaha… oh wait! When will you be free? I'm just wondering if we can jam with the band? It would be great!" I'm preventing myself from jumping in excitement. I see she's still thinking about it,

"Finn's the vocalist, you two can duet" I said, teasing her.

"I thought you were the vocalist," she suddenly said.

"Really?" I asked with a big smile on my lips.

You must be wanting to have a duet with me.

Psh… assuming.

"Nope, I'm the lead guitarist. I just do some second voicing"

She just nodded.

"Game?" I asked. She looked at me forming a smirk on her lips.

"Game"

Lyrie's P.O.V.

*ringgggg- ringgggg- ringgg*

I looked at my phone. Someone's calling, I placed my focus on the person in front of me. I gave his coin change.

"Thanks" she replied.

I nodded and looked after my phone. It is still ringing.

Unknown number?

I clicked it and put it on my ear,

"Hello?"

("Hello")

I stopped when I heard that familiar voice. I removed the phone from my ear and ended the call.

I don't want to hear his irritating voice.

*ringggg- ringggg- ringggg- ringggg- ringggg- ringggg- ringggg- ringggg- ringggg- ringggg- ringggg- ringggg- *

He's getting on my nerves.

He still did not stop calling. I just looked at it waiting for it to stop ringing. A minute later, it stopped. I released a sigh and turned myself around fr--

*ringggg- ringggg- ringggg- ringggg- ringggg- ringggg- ringggg- ringggg- ringggg- ringggg- *

My brows quickly connect itself as I get irritated even more. I took it and clicked the answer button.

"When will you stop doing this, huh?!"

("Hahahaha! Chill. I just want to check if you're ok") he said on the other side.

I didn't release a word in my mouth. I just listened to his nonsense talking, already grasping the phone tight.
