Opal woke up and lifted her head, hearing her parents voices coming from the front room. She got up and walked to the door, pulling it open. Her parents quieted as they heard Opal approach. Opal wasn't much of a talker, so she just gave a slight nod in the direction of her parents as she walked to the kitchen table. She picked up her bowl and started to eat her breakfast, staring blankly at the wall opposite of her. It was then that Opal felt a need to leave the walls of the city and go outside. Opal fought this thought, knowing that leaving was forbidden unless you were a merchant or a trader, and supposedly everything was inside the protective walls, keeping the citizens safe to whatever dangers live outside. Opal grabbed a protective sash from the wall and two of the longest daggers her family had and left the house, her parents not even noticing her absence. The last time Opal had these kinds of sudden thoughts in her mind, she had ignored them and almost got ripped in half by a demonized rat. Opal had lived in this city for her whole life and knew where she could sneak out to the forest without being noticed. She walked nonchalantly to the trading hall, knowing that most people here at the moment would be focused on the merchants and would be wanting to purchase something, usually food. Opal waited until there were few consumers still waiting in line so that she could sprint to the small hole in the wall. Even for an elf, Opal could run exceptionally fast, so few people could actually see her properly when she was sprinting. Opal crawled through the hole with nobody seeing her and popped up on the other side, dusting her pants off. Opal stood up and thought for a while about what actually she intended to do once she went outside, but the feeling came back up again, and she knew she had to go farther into the forest. Opal knew that she hadn't been followed, had she? She walked through the forest, occasionally hearing the snap of a stick breaking. Opal decided to walk faster, seeing a shadow moving through the forest with her. Opal stopped, throwing her dagger at the tree that she knew the person following her was behind. Just as Opal was about to give up, a person stepped out from behind the tree, his form slightly distorted. He turned his magic off, showing that he was in a black suit, with only his eyes not covered. "You found me, I'll let you go this time, I know where you're going, but don't be too excited." the person said to her. Opal took one long look at the person walking casually away and then walked to the tree to pick up her dagger from the bark of the tree. She knew that she had to keep going, she didn't really have an option, she had already left the walls and knew that even leaving the walls wasn't allowed, but she had done it. She might as well keep going. Opal walked through the forest for quite a while, looking for something or someone. She finally came to a clearing, seeing nothing, she started to move on, until she felt a strange aura pulling her forward. Opal looked forwards and had to focus, but could see a strange flickering orb of lightning. Opal had no idea what this was and couldn't appraise the item. Confused, she walked up to it and heard a quite voice coming from it.
Luna was annoyed, ranting to nobody except the flickering orb in her room, about what had happened since that snake bit her. She stared at the orb as she talked, but stopped as she heard a voice. Luna got up from her bed and walked towards the orb, hearing the voice talking in some strange language, and touched it.
Opal had heard the voice stop when she had started talking to the voice, the language confused her, she had never heard it before. Opal just stood there, wondering, and before she could notice what she was doing, she touched the orb.
Opal woke up, wondering where she was. She must have been out for hours, just sitting on the ground next to the orb.
Luna woke up to the cold concrete under her head, and thought about what had happened. 'well, I heard a voice when I was ranting, and I felt a sudden urge to touch it, and then I just woke up here' Luna looked around confused, what had happened while she was out, it was early in the morning so nobody had come to pick her up yet, but she still wondered what had happened.
Opal heard a voice in her head, it sounded like the person was talking in her language but with a weird accent, so she decided to talk to it. 'Hello? Mysterious voice in my head? Who are you and where are you?'
Luna heard a voice in her head with an accent, and responded with her own words.
Both Luna and Opal were shocked, neither had had this happen before, and before they knew it, both of them were speaking quite slowly to each other in order to understand their words, but they spent hours just sitting and talking to the voice in their minds.
Opal sat up and looked around after hours of talking with her eyes closed to this mysterious new voice in her head, and realized the soldiers from the city standing guard at the perimeter of the clearing, all weapons pointed at her, and heard it. "hold it right there, you're coming with us."
