Sunlight shined through the window and on the two bodies, laying in bed.
Riku turned to avoid the light and snuggled up to something comfortable and warm.
A phone rang.
The comfortable pillow moved and the ringing stopped right after.
Something brushed a strand of hair out of Riku's face.
He felt his head hurting. His body felt so heavy and he was so tired.
"Riku", a voice said.
"Riku, wake up."
Something touched and fondled his shoulder.
"Riku", something whispered into his ear.
"Wakey wakey."
Riku opened his eyes.
He was laying on Oliver's bare chest, an arm around his body.
He looked at Oliver, then looked around.
"Where am I? Why are you here?"
"What do you remember about last night?"
"Don't tell me, we had sex", Riku mumbled and put his hands in front of his face.
"We didn't ", Oliver chuckled.
"What is the last thing you remember?"
Riku sat up and held his head.
"Uh- I- I don't know", he said.
"I ran away from the hotel. I fell asleep in that alley, you found me, we got into that bar... and after that, everything's gone. Just all black. Nothing."
"Oh wow okay."
"Did I dance on a table?"
"No-"
"Did I buy anything expensive?"
"No-"
"Have sex with anyone?"
"No-"
"Make out with anyone?"
"Well-"
"Did I take drugs?"
"You did, but not on purpose. At least not the first time."
"Huh?", Riku paused.
"Okay. To go through with this gently. We played 'never have I ever' and 'truth or dare'. You kissed me, ate two or maybe even three drugged brownies and you drank so much that you fell asleep on my lap."
"Oh my."
"I got you here, and laid you in my bed."
"Thanks."
"Then, in the middle of the night, you got up again, ate another brownie, made some ramen, told me stories about insects on my ceilings and monsters under my bed-"
Riku groaned.
"-and you insisted we'd sleep in the same bed, because, as you said, insects eat humans and you didn't want to be alone."
"Please let that be all", the younger begged.
"Oh", Oliver laughed, "and when you were standing in the kitchen, you were naked. And after I've told you to dress yourself, you said you couldn't find your own clothes and took some of mine."
"Oh my god, Oliver, I am so sorry, for everything."
"No worries, it was pretty funny, to be honest."
Riku waited a bit and processed all of the information.
"I- I said that insects eat humans?"
"Yes", Oliver chuckled.
"I never knew that alcohol can have such an impact."
"Was this the first time that you drank? Like- properly drank?"
"Yes. I've never been to a party or anything similar before. I hated them."
"That explains a lot."
"I'm sorry, I'll wash your clothes and pay you back what I cooked", Riku said and wanted to get up but Oliver held him back.
"It's fine, seriously", he replied and gave a warm smile.
Riku let himself fall on the bed and groaned.
Sadly, the memory of the fight with his father was still there.
"Hey, I'm sorry too."
Riku tilted his head and looked at Oliver.
"What for?"
"You told me about what your father did."
Riku sighed. "Great."
Oliver hesitated.
"You can stay here. If you want. Until you figure something out. I can sleep on the couch for a while, it's actually quite comfortable. I'll ask my friend for a second blanket, it's no problem."
Riku's eyes got warm. "Really? You'd do that?"
"Sure. At least then it's not so quiet here", he said and smiled.
"I'll pay you back somehow, I promise", Riku said.
Maybe people weren't so bad after all.
Oliver was surely an angel.
"I-I should call my mom. Tell her what happened. Hopefully she'll finally divorce that man, then I can come home", Riku said and got up.
"Do you want you clothes back? I'll go buy some new ones today-"
"Just keep 'em, I've got more don't worry."
"Okay."
His head was pounding on the inside and he also really needed to shower.
But first, his mother.
The line was ringing. But as she picked up, Riku panicked and lost all of the words he actually wanted to say.
"Riku? Is this you?"
"H-hey, Mom. It's good to hear your voice."
"Riku, where are you? Father is worried about you! He called me right after you left, said you were mad about something."
"Mom, I should you should listen to this. Your husband is an addict. Or at least, the injection I saw laying on the floor looked like it. I don't know what he told you but he was very aggressive. So the description of Heroine fits."
He waited a bit for his mother to process.
"I- I don't know what to say."
"I do. Divorce him."
He heard how she sighed on the other side of the line.
"I'm serious Mom! He's no good! I don't understand how you keep on supporting him. He's, he's hit me, Mom."
"He hit you?"
"Yes.."
"I-"
Silence.
"I wish I could divorce him, honey, but-"
"He choked me. Luckily, there was a lady, who wanted to give room service and interrupted him. But if she didn't come.. I don't know if I'd be dead or alive."
"He would never kill anyone Riku! Do you really have such low expectations of him?"
"He choked me! I have reasons to give my hopes up!"
"Did you say something to him? Something that could've made him angry?"
"It doesn't matter what I said! He hit me and strangled me until I couldn't breathe!"
"I'll talk to him, I promise."
Riku groaned.
"You just don't understand, do you?"
"I can't divorce him, Riku. We need the money."
"We'll survive without him", he said and hung up.
She was truly unbelievable, he thought.
Just because she kept on believing in her high school romance.
"Everything alright?", fully dressed Oliver asked and stuck his head into the kitchen.
"I don't want to talk about it", Riku replied and crossed his arms.
"Come here."
Oliver walked to him and wrapped his arms around him.
"What-"
"Hugs help."
"I'm fine, really."
"Hugs help."
"They don't."
"They do, if you let them."
"Oliver, I'm okay."
But the older just uncrossed Riku's arms and hugged him again, this time strongly and tightly, through which Riku had no other chance but to accept it.
"Hugs help", Oliver repeated.
Riku scoffed.
"If hugs help, I should have gotten a lot of them by now."
"You'll get them."
"I don't need them."
"Just accept it! Jesus christ."
Riku didn't say anything. Oliver just wanted to help, to support. No one had done this before. Not even his mother.
His mother, he truly hoped, she'd get rid of this man, whose name is not worth mentioning.
His father.
He wasn't a father anymore. And actually, he's never been a true father. Or husband, for that matter.
Oliver started going through Riku's hair and patted his head.
"I'm fine", Riku said again.
"Mhm."
A father who'd kill his own child. Almost fascinating, Riku thought. But would he- would he go through with it? If the lady didn't interrupt him.. would he have stopped?
Riku remembered the cold dark eyes, his father had showed to him, while holding him up and pressing him against the wall.
Just memorizing how time after time, second after second, his grip had gotten stronger and Riku's need to breathe getting more and his throat tightening.
Just thinking about it, he felt his fathers hand around his throat again.
And finally, Riku slowly hugged Oliver back.
And it felt good. Oliver was a bit taller than him, a perfect size actually, for Riku to just disappear in his chest and arms.
"It's okay."
"Yes, I- I know", Riku said.
"Everything will be alright."
Riku stayed silent.
"It will be alright."
And soon, more and more, Riku's brows furrowed, and his face tensed up. Finally, he realized what he all held in. Finally, his eyes got wet and he pulled Oliver closer.
He wanted this all, to just pass forever. He never wanted to spend another second thinking about his dad.
"It's okay."
Riku eventually started sobbing quietly.
"What am I supposed to do", he asked and grabbed the fabric of Oliver's shirt.
"What should I do? I- I can't go back"
"You're here with me."
"I don't want to go back. Ever", Riku said.
"It's gonna be alright."
The younger hid his face in Oliver's chest and cried.
Oliver didn't stop caressing him and going through his hair, calming him down and holding him.
"It's okay. I'm here."
"You better stay here", Riku mumbled with a sore voice.
Oliver chuckled. "I will."
