Is This It? - Chapter 8

The Assassin is standing on the edge of a cliff, sun going down off to his right as the Thief walks up to him. "Why are we here? What did you want to talk about?" The question resounded through the Assassins heart and down the canyon. He turned to her, determination in his eyes. "I wanted to talk to you about something thats been on my mind a lot recently." He turned from her slightly, "Something thats been costing me sleep." He turned back to her with more courage this time. "I love you. After all the traveling we've done, everything we've been through, i can say with certainty that i love you and i want to be with you until we die." They both stood there for a moment, looking at each other. Then the Thief started smiling, a joyous smile, one full of overwhelming emotion. The Assassin reached into his pocket and pulled out a ring, it wasnt large by any means but beautiful nonetheless. Something that could be worn anywhere that wouldnt draw a lot of attention but still was beautiful enough to recognize as a wedding ring. "I got this a couple days ago." The Assassin announced, "I have been pondering this ring for the past few days, losing sleep over it." He put it back in his pocket and pulled his dagger out. "Ive made up my mind though. I cant marry you while i still hold these weapons, they're too much of my past, too much murder and hate." He turned towards the canyon and reached back his arm to throw it. Right as he went to throw them his arm was caught by slender hands from behind. The Thief had grabbed his arm and stopped him from throwing the weapons away at the last moment. He lowered his arm and turned towards her, confused. She looked up at him with tears in her eyes. "I had no idea that had been eating at you this whole time, im sorry i didnt notice." She planted her face into his chest in a hug. "Dont throw them away, dont throw your past away. I want to accept you, all of you if we're to be married. That includes your past, no matter how dark, and those weapons." She looked back up at him with her beautiful green eyes. "Those weapons are who you are, they may have been once used for murder but they've also been used to protect. These past few months we've been together they've been used to keep me safe, if you throw them away now then you are also throwing away a part of yourself, so please, dont cast them away." She put her face back into his chest as he looked down at her thoughtfully, placing his hand on her head. "Alright then, in that case..." he stepped back from her, sheathed his dagger and pulled the ring back out, kneeling down. "...will you marry me?" He asked right as the sun hit the horizon, lighting up the sky and canyon in reds, yellows and oranges. She nodded through her huge smile and tears and they hugged as the sun slipped down behind the rocky cliff, immersing everything in the soft twilight of Summer.
