Chapter 12.12

Susan’s POV

‘Mmm a human mate, I see.' A very creepy looking man says as he comes closer to where me and Abbadon are standing, staring at me with calculating eyes.

I never thought that it would be easy but this man exudes a very bad energy that is keeping me on edge.

Abbadon strokes my lower back, trying to calm me down in his own way.

I have to be strong and show these demons that I am not in the least intimidated by them, of course, I am very much not comfortable been in a room full of demons, I mean I am intimidated by them but I do not need to let them see.

‘Ooh, Abbadon the destroyer, I can see you have found yourself a beautiful toy.’ The creepy man says and I can clearly sense Abbadon go stiff. Abbadon clearly does not like this creepy man, I mean, there is nothing there to like about him.

‘Hey, would you cut this crap so that we can all make this as short lasting as we possibly can?’ Abbadon says with clenched jaw, not in the least trying to hide his dislike for the creepy demon.

‘Oh, that hurts.’ The creepy demon says, faking an annoying hurt face.

‘Cut the act Mammon, you are actually beginning to rile me up.’ Abbadon says through gritted teeth.

I can see how much effort he is putting in to not do anything funny.

‘Alright old friend, since you want us to get straight to business, why don’t you introduce this human toy of yours to us? I mean you said you want to introduce your new mate to us but you rather show up with some pathetic mate.’ The creepy demon whom I have just discovered is called Mammon says insultingly, staring at me with disgust in his eyes.

Abbadon takes his hand off my back and I see him clench them into fits.

I can see how much he is controlling himself to not hit the annoying and disrespectful demon.

I have never even met him before but he seems to have some dirt on me already, it is as if he has some old fucking feud with me, like he has some old issues he would like to settle with me once and for all.

‘Mammon, I will not have you speak to my mate like that.

She is your queen, show her the needed respect.’ Abbadon says with clenched jaw.

‘Haha, funny! Are you actually kidding me? You are telling me this pathetic human here is your mate? I am sorry I can’t have this as a queen.’ Mammon says in a very hateful tone.

‘May I remind you that I am the king here and I decide who will be here and who cannot. Besides, nature itself chose this woman for me and you are going to accept that whether you truly approve of it or not. Who even need your opinion on this anyways.’Abbadon says as he holds my hand to walk me past the creepy demon.

‘Oh, so you are telling all of us in this room, both demons and lost souls to accept this human as our queen when you yourself has not fully approved of her?’ Mammon says seriously to Abbadon, the mocking tone in his voice previously, completely gone.

‘So you think you are in a better place to tell me whether I approve of my mate or not?’ Abbadon also retorts in an angry voice.

‘Please calm down Abbadon.

Do not let his words affect you, I do not really care if he disrespects me, it is you I am here for not him.’ I say as I stroke Abbadon’s arm, trying as humanly possible to calm him down and it seems to work until Mammon says his next words.

This time, it is not Abbadon who gets devastated but it is me myself who gets shattered.

‘Oh, just look at you been all so supportive. You think he even likes you in the slightest? Then I hate to break it to you that he does not.

If he truly cherish you as a mate, he would not even give you that mark on you shoulder in the first place.’ Mammon says with a bone chilling laugh.

‘Shut up Mammon.’ Abbadon says, trying to stop him from talking about the mark.

‘No, say it.’ I say to the creepy demon.

‘My pleasure, I would not dare say no to my queen.’ Mammon says sarcastically as Abbadon continues to throw daggers at him with his eyes.

‘You see, that mark on your shoulder can lead to your death. If Abbadon truly wanted you as a mate, he would have given you his genuine mark, he would not have given you this partial mark.

What did you think Abbadon? You thought this mark could fool us? The mate bond may have accepted it but it would still realize that you are rejecting your mate and you know what will happen.

Even strong demons perish when they are rejected, just imagine what will happen to you little human.’ Mammon says and I try my best to tell myself that he is just feeding me with lies, I try as much as possible to not let him get inside my head.

‘You are just trying to lie to me. Abbadon has never told me he does not want me, I mean, if he truly wants to reject me, then why would he bring me here?’ I say to Mammon with a firm tone.

‘Exactly Susan, why would I go through the pain to get you here only to get rid of you. Alright, chit-chat time is over, let us get to the reason why we are gathered here.’ Abbadon says, telling us indirectly to not continue with the conversation but Mammon does not have any of it.

‘Oh right! Think of it human, why would he refuse to give you his mark? The truth is, this partial mark you have on you right now will start making you restless if Abbadon does not mark you.

Demons are not supposed to even partial mark their mates on purpose.

Partial marks happen accidentally when a mate refuses to receive the mark of the other mate and I do not remember anyone, partial marking their mate on purpose. It can be really messy.

If the mate bond comes to realize that you are not fully mated, it is you that is going to suffer the consequences because it would think you are refusing to be fully mated to our king here. You can die.’ Mammon says and I turn to stare at Abbadon, waiting for him to tell me that whatever the creepy demon is saying is lies but he says nothing.

I cannot believe he would do this to me. I mean, I know he does not really like me but I never imagined he would do this, that he would go to this extend.

‘Enough Mammon! As your king and ruler, I command you to keep mute and submit to your king.’ Abbadon says in a very commanding monotone and I see Mammon unwillingly bow in-front of Abbadon.

‘Okay, now that we are done with that stupid conversation, allow me to introduce to you your queen, my mate, Susan Parrish.’ Abbadon says as the demons growl whiles the lost souls make some eerie noises.

‘They are shouting about how happy they are to have a new queen. You can’t hear the lost souls because you are not completely bonded to them yet.

They will completely bond with you when I give you my mark, they are souls who do not trust easily. They will accept you only when they are sure that you have completely surrendered to me.’ Abbadon says but I do not make any signs, whether I have heard him or not.

‘Giving me the silent treatment now?’ Abbadon asks but I continue to ignore him.

‘Why is she not marked yet king? You want us to accept a weak unmated human as a queen?’ A demon in the crowd shouts at us.

‘How can she possibly be our queen when you yourself had not even accepted her yet?’ Another demon asks and this time, I am done with them.

My soulmate is refusing to mark me for whichever reason I do not even know and his subjects continue to refer to me as weak and incapable.

I am just done with all of them.

‘We will not acknowledge some mortal as our queen until you give her your mark to assure us that you have truly given her your trust and acceptance.’ Another demon shouts as the lost souls continue to make eerie sounds, probably saying a whole lot of hateful shits.

‘I want you all to calm..’ without waiting for Abbadon to complete his crappy words, I bolt out of the room.

‘Hey wait, where are you going?’ I hear Abbadon shout.

He dismisses the demons and lost souls as he bolts after me.

‘What do you think you are doing?’ Abbadon asks me as he catches my arm in the hallway.

‘What does it look like I am doing? You know since you ask, I am going to tell you. You see, since you do not really want me here, I think it is better for me to throw myself down to Lucifer.’ I tell him as I attempt to free my hands from his grasp.

‘And do you think hell is a better place than here?’ Abbadon asks angrily.

‘What purpose do I have here? I have already lost my family and I thought I could start a family with you but turns out you do not want me here so it will be better for me to throw myself to eternal damnation.’ I say as he attempts to take my hands but I immediately move back.

‘You do have a purpose here Susan, you are my mate and you are supposed to be a queen of this realm.’ Abbadon says.

‘What other lies do you have to tell me?’ I ask him with an unbelievable laugh.

‘What is happening here?’ I hear someone say and I turn to see James and Marigold.

‘Gosh, you guys reek of sex. I can see you guys already mated.’ Abbadon says to James with a smirk and a blush appear on James and Marigold’s cheek.

‘Can you be serious a bit? At least, someone has got the heart to accept his mate and the least you can do is to support him and stop with your foolish jokes.’ I say angrily.

‘Hey, I know you are upset and Mammon’s words may have gone to your head but I want to assure you that I would never do something to hurt you intentionally.’ Abbadon says with pleading eyes.

‘And that is coming from the man who decided to test something this dangerous on me.’ I say with a sneer.

‘Trust me, I never knew the consequences of the partial mark until recently. I know I should have not done it but I am helpless ok? I did not know what else to do, I thought this could solve our problems.’ Abbadon says and for once, I think I see vulnerability in his eyes. He however masks it so fast that I would have thought it was never there if I had not seen it very vividly.

‘You expect me to trust you after all these? I know you never liked me but I did not know you hate me this much.

You know, after you told me I could not go back home, I made up my mind that I would try and start something new with you here, that I would try to win you over but I never knew you hated me this much.’ I say through painful sobs.

‘Please do not cry. I admit I did not really like the idea of having a human as a mate but I have never hated you as a person.

If I truly want to hurt you, then why would I connect our souls? Now we have a connectivity, even though it is not as strong as it would be if we are completely mated, I can still feel your pain and emotions just as you can feel mine.’ Abbadon says honestly and I think he is right but I still need time to process everything.

‘James, can I crush at your place for some hours?’ I ask, staring at James with pleading eyes.

I turn to Marigold who has been unusually quiet all this time.

She is not one to keep quiet, especially in situations like this. She would have been the one fighting on my behalf, she would have stand up for me. I know I hurt her and I am going to make things right.

I can’t loose another important person.

‘Mari, can I?’ I ask my best-friend, staring straight in her eyes.

‘It is up to James to make that decision Susan.’ Mari says with a bland tone, no emotions whatsoever and it hurts like hell.

‘Please do not reject me, I can’t stand it, please.’ I say as a sob leaves my mouth.

‘Okay Susan, you can crush at ours for some hours. I would have let you stay for a long time but trust me, you would not want to stay long with newly marked mates.’ James says and despite my sobs, a light chuckle leaves my mouth.

‘Hey, I know I hurt you and I promise to make this right. Just give me another chance please.’ I tell Marigold but she just looks away but I do not fail to notice her watery eyes.

‘Come on girls, let us go. In fact, I have something I would want to tell you girls. I think you very much would like to hear it too.’ James says as he puts his hand at Marigold’s lower back to lead her to their place.

They look so cute and happy together. I do not mean to feel jealous but I wish I also had that with my mate but hey, who am I kidding?

I take a step to follow their lead but Abbadon holds my hand when I attempt to pass by him.

‘What?’ I ask him angrily.

‘Hey, I know you are upset and you need some time to yourself but I want you to know that everything I did, I did it as a helpless demon king who knew nothing else to do but that.

Take all the time you want but please do not give up on me, give me a chance to correct this.’ Abbadon says with vulnerability and this time round, he does not try to hide it, this time round, he bares his soul to me, he gives me the go ahead to search his soul to see how lost he is.

For once, I think I can see his walls grumbling down and I can see a light shining at the end of the tunnel, I feel like there can be a future for us.
