Chapter 5

"He is scheduled to go under trial for his crimes!" The guards yelled. "You fools get lost!"

Vergil soon found himself in front of the mayor and quietly observed him. The mayor was a fat slob who was eating some delicious food while the guard respectfully stood guard with Vergil in tow.

"What is it?" The Mayor asked with an irritated growl, annoyed at being disturbed from his meal. The guard stepped forward and explained the situation. "Sir, the case is as follows..."

The Mayor snorted and looked at Vergil angrily. "You have anything to say for your crimes?"

"My lord, it was a mistake made in error. I am willing to compensate for the crime I unknowingly committed!" Vergil replied. "Both to the man in question and to your lordship for disturbing your peace!"

When the Mayor heard that his eyes glinted. "Oh? What are you willing to compensate?"

In his past life, Ryan had read about this particular bargaining quest on the forums. After much trial and error, players had discovered that the most optimal amount of gift to the greedy mayor was around 1 gold coin in net worth of materials for a pardon and an increase in reputation. Vergil quickly made the offer in ordinary rabbit pelts which weren't of use to him. A trade portal appeared in front of him, where he placed 250 rabbit pelts for trade and its value came out to be around 1 Gold. When the transaction was completed a notification sounded out.

[Quest - Satiating the Mayor's Greed Completed. +200 exp. +20 reputation in Red Leaf Time. Relationship with Mayor - Cordial]

The red mark over Vergil's head also turned into bright green as all his crimes were washed away. The Mayor delightedly stumbled out of his cushioned chair and shook hands with Vergil. "You are a good man!" He kept repeating multiple times as his eyes glittered with stars.

"My lord, is there anything you need help to accomplish?" Vergil asked in response. With the improvement in relationship with the mayor and the rejection of the criminal charges, the guard shrugged and walked away as if nothing happened.

The Mayor fell into a contemplative mood before nodding. "Indeed, there is something that I need done. The Oswald Trading Company was supposed to bring some luxurious goods to the town, but they still haven't arrived. I suspect they have lost their way in Traveler's Pass. Would you help me find out what happened of them and retrieve the goods?"

[Quest (Rare) - Find out what happened to the Trade Caravan.]

Vergil nodded and gladly accepted the quest. After taking leave from the Mayor, he royally trudged out of the courthouse to the dismay of the other players.

"Brother did you trigger a secret quest or something?"

"How did you lose your criminal status?"

"How did you enter a criminal status in the first place?"

"Where did you get that weapon for brother?"

"Hey, are you selling currency?"

Vergil quickly ignored the rising chatter of people who were searching for him and rushed through some alleyways to lose these desperate pursuers and visit the tailor. This time, the tailor was very friendly when Vergil appeared.

"You are back. Do you have the mutated rabbit pelts?" He asked with anticipation. Vergil nodded and took out the 25 pelts he had gathered from the rounds against the mutated creature. The tailor excitedly nodded. "Indeed, fresh and good quality pelts. What do you want to exchange it for?"

The shop list suddenly appeared in front of Vergil's eyes. It contained five complete cloth sets for trade. Vergil could choose a single set to exchange for 25 pelts. This exclusive quest could only be triggered by one person and now this particularly secret store was open to Vergil alone. From the sets he quickly chose the Night Crawler set, a dark black cloth set that looked cool, but primarily improved speed, provided improved defense and increased stealth in the dark. It was also the most valuable set in the entire store. After exchanging it, he directly equipped it and his avatar immediately acquired a mysterious look. The cloth set even came with a mask that he pulled over his mouth to cover his identity, though his name could still be seen with the inspect function.

Vergil decided to go back and farm the mutated rabbit pelts again and clean out this store later. He could sell these other cloth sets at the auction house for a considerable sum to the rich players around the world. Leaving the town Vergil made several runs to the rabbit spawn area and continued to slaughter them, collecting both drops from both rabbits and the rabbit mutate. It took several further hours to gain enough mutate pelts to clear out the tailor's special exchange shop. While he was returning, some of the players who were now picking up beginner quests looked at Vergil's Night Crawler cloth set in awe.

A bulky looking player walked over and cautiously asked Vergil a question. "Brother, where did you get this cloth equipment? It looks so cool!"

Vergil smiled and inspected the player's name. "Silverio, huh. I'll be auctioning a cloth set in the auction house in a bit. You can bid for it there." He then rushed to the tailor and cleaned out the store. Once he obtained all the clothing sets, a notification appeared on Vergil's line of sight.

[Hidden Quest - Clean out the Wardrobe Completed]

[Relationship with Red Leaf Town Tailor now Cordial]

The tailor looked around in deep thought before looking back at Vergil. "You are a reliable fella. I think I can share this information with you." He sneaked a look around the street again before heading into the shop and beckoning Vergil along with him. Ryan was surprised by this outcome. He didn't remember the guides or player discussions ever mentioning any such event taking place. Could this be an exclusive quest for the first person to unlock this hidden quest across the server?
