He Noticed.

The Lieutenant General started his speech, and while the other girls stared straight ahead, my eyes were irresistibly drawn to Kyle. I tried to resist, but I couldn't help it. Several minutes later, our eyes met, and he noticed. My mind: "Oh God! What should I do now? I hope he didn't see that!"I quickly shifted my gaze back to the Lieutenant General, pretending to be fully engrossed in the speech, though my mind was a whirl of embarrassment. After a few impatient minutes, I couldn't resist looking back at Kyle. Our eyes met again, and he was still looking at me. He started laughing with his friend, who was standing beside him, and I quickly looked down, my face burning with embarrassment. When the meeting finally ended, everyone started heading back to the dorms. I wanted to hurry away without looking back, but Cindy stopped us."This is so embarrassing," I muttered under my breath."What?" Rosa whispered back."That guy, Kyle, saw me staring. Let's just get out of here quickly," I whispered urgently."What???" Rosa exclaimed, louder than intended."Shhhh!" I hissed, trampling Rosa's foot."Okay, okay... I was looking at his friend, and he noticed it too. Just don't look at them again. Act normal, like nothing happened," Rosa whispered, trying to reassure me."Huh???" I shouted involuntarily."Shhhh!" Rosa whispered, pinching my arm."What are you guys doing? Stop acting weird in front of them," Tina said in a low voice."Weird?" I echoed quietly."They're coming... smile, smile, smile," Rosa urged as the soldiers approached us.Rosa and I gave the silliest smiles we've ever managed in our lives. Cindy introduced the three of us as her close friends, which was unexpected but made me grateful for her thoughtfulness."We saw you looking at us, Ms. Gold," said the soldier beside Kyle. He was Jason, the Major General and Rosa's first secret crush. His words sent chills down my spine."Me? Haha... no, you must be mistaken," I replied, glancing nervously at Rosa."I'm pretty sure I saw it right... you were definitely looking at Kyle," he insisted.I could feel my face heating up, but Rosa stepped in, "Well, maybe she was just distracted. We were all a bit overwhelmed by the speech, weren't we?"Jason raised an eyebrow but seemed to let it go, turning his attention to Rosa. Meanwhile, Kyle caught my eye again and gave me a subtle, reassuring smile that made my heart flutter. As we walked back to the dorms, I couldn't stop thinking about Kyle's smile and the unexpected turn of events. Rosa, Tina, and I laughed about it later, but I couldn't help but wonder what the future held for us with the soldiers around.
