Inconvenient

"Little uncle, you must be joking. You've just saved me from a terrible situation. I'm really indebted to you. And I agree that it's only right that I treat you to a meal. Our Nan family can still afford this meal." Upon hearing his teasing, Nan Yan laughed and replied politely. Her words were distant, full of formalities, and she'd even explicitly stated that she was treating him to the meal in the name of the Nan family.

Fu Jingheng's eyes got sullen. The corners of his mouth curled up in a mischievous smile. He kept his hands in his trouser pockets as he walked toward the restaurant.

As soon as they were seated, the waiter came over with the menu. After looking at the menu, Nan Yan ordered a medium rare filet steak, a salad, and a seafood platter.

Nan Yan returned the menu to the waiter, looked up at Fu Jingheng, who hadn't chosen yet, and asked with a smile, "Little uncle, is there nothing on the menu that can satisfy you?"

He'd picked this restaurant himself, but, in the end, it seemed as though he wasn't satisfied with it. Nan Yan smiled quietly and properly on the surface, but she couldn't help but curse him inside.

"Tenderloin, medium rare." Fu Jingheng raised his eyes and glanced at her as he ordered, then closed the menu.

After the waiter had left, Nan Yan's phone rang. Nan Yan took it out of her bag and looked at the phone display. She saw that it was Su Tanqing calling. While she was hesitating over whether or not to answer it, she reflexively glanced at Fu Jingheng, who was sitting opposite her.

It just so happened that Fu Jingheng was also looking at her at this time, and they made eye contact. Nan Yan's eyes were as soft and clear as water. Her subtle smile made one think of the silvery white moon in the sky. Her every smile and gesture were mesmerizing.

Fu Jingheng's eyes, on the other hand, were like a cold, dark, deep pool that was utterly unapproachable. One gentle and one harsh, the two of them created a stark contrast that caused a ripple through the atmosphere.

"Take it." Fu Jingheng glanced at the phone in her hand, imperceptibly retracted his gaze, and crossed his legs. His slender fingers gently rubbed his legs.

A bit of mirth appeared in Nan Yan's eyes, and she lightly tapped the green answer button. Before she could say anything, Su Tanqing's questioning voice came from the other end of the phone, "Yan Yan, where are you? Where are you?"

"Eating."

"Eating? Why didn't you wait for me? Didn't we promise we'd go to eat together?"

"Young lady, how could I have stayed with you in that situation just now? The risk of staying with you was too great, or how about you give me insurance next time before I eat with you?" Nan Yan rolled her eyes. In spite of Fu Jingheng's presence, she didn't hold back from complaining to Su Tanqing.

"Come on. The crowd has already dispersed here. Where are you eating? Give me the address. I'll come now."

"It's inconvenient."

"Huh? What do you mean? Yan Yan, has the love between us disappeared? You can't abandon me because of my fans!" Su Tanqing was confused and tried to play the pity card.

"I mean I'm eating with someone else, so it's not convenient." Feeling that it was really a headache to have a best friend like Su Tanqing, Nan Yan clasped her forehead.

"With someone else? Who? When you came over to photograph me this morning, did you bring anyone else?"

"No."

"Then who are you with?"

"Your boss."

"Whaaaat?" Su Tanqing was petrified, and she felt as if her understanding of the world was being turned topsy-turvy. "The boss you're referring to...is that Fu Jingheng?"

"Well, exactly how many bosses do you have?" Nan Yan put on a long face and glanced at Fu Jingheng, who appeared indifferent and relaxed. She couldn't see any emotional fluctuations in him at this time.
