Me and Penny pulled out chairs onto the balcony, and looked over Elysium.
"You know. I still don't understand using Spartan spear tactics with a sword." Penny said through a smile watching soldiers move about in patrols.
"Leonidas taught me how to fight properly. However I could never balance a spear properly back then. I tried a lot. I tried different woods, wraps, and metals. Hell! I even tried one of those fully metal Striker spears!" I exclaimed "But swords was my strength. So Achilles taught me how to fight properly with a sword. I even mastered his little jump and jab technique. Give me another weapon for my off-hand, or a shield, and I can fight like a Spartan." I looked at her and noticed she was leaning forward in her chair.
"So…..Spartan defense, but the offense of Achilles. No wonder you fight like you're invincible." Penny responded, I nodded a bit, "How's your sight doing, is it any better than yesterday?" She asked.
"Better, I'll probably be back to fighting shape tomorrow." I answered while watching the sun set on Elysium.
"To bad you're stuck here for a few days." Penny said watching the sunset as well.
I shrugged and sat back. Darkness started shrouding the field of Elysium. Any plant caught in it withered away into ash as soon as darkness hit it. The rivers turned black, and cut through the lands like deep wounds. The darkness moved continuing to destroy the fields.
Penny looked amazed. I smiled a bit as my gaze moved from my favorite sight in the Underworld to her. The whole area was engulfed in darkness, and then it started to glow. Plants came out of the ground and all of them had a silver glow to them. The rivers went from black marks to silver ribbons. The whole area reflected the moonlight, that lit up Elysium again, as guards moved to their posts.
"Woah…that's amazing." Penny said, she sounded amazed with what had just happened.
"Little gift from Calypso, she planted them herself. Even enchanted the water to turn silver." I said.
"Water reflects princess." She said back.
"Not like that. Whole lakes reflect while in shade." I responded.
"I gotta see that." Penny said getting up.
"Tomorrow when I'm in better shape and can see better." I said getting up.
"Heading to bed?" Penny asked.
I nodded, and walked back into my bedroom away from the balcony. The room was barely lit up by the silver lighting outside, and the lights I had put it the room had turned silver as well. The only downside of Calypso's magic in Elysium was that it was strong and very thorough.
I took my jacket off, it was still torn to shreds and stained with blood from my fall in the Underworld. I reluctantly hung it on the outside of my door to be fixed and washed (hopefully it was still in good enough condition). I got my shirt off as well, which had taken the same amount of damage my jacket had, and did the same to it.
I looked down and saw a lot of deep scars still visible on my abdomen, chest, and some on my back that were visible in the mirror. The ambrosia usually healed these wounds quickly, was I that close to death when Thanatos dropped me in my step mother's garden?
"Damn." I whispered as Penny walked in.
"They'll take a bit to heal Mary. Give it time." Penny said pulling the chairs back in.
"If I ever see that bastard again I'll fucking kill him." I said.
My blood ran hot, and with good reason. Thanatos would get worse than a simple stab wound when I saw him next time. I sat down on my bed and stripped my black jeans off, which I couldn't see much damage on since they were already torn.
I yawned as I stood up once more and placed my jeans on the handle of my door, with the rest of my clothes, soon closing my door.
"I'm surprised that when Thanatos dropped you, it didn't kill you Mary." Penny said.
"He knew it wouldn't. It was just high enough to hurt like hell." I answered.
I got dressed into some white pajamas with an intricate, abstract, pattern in all black all over them.
"Are those pajamas silk too?" Penny joked.
"Shut it Owl Eyes. I only wear these for my stepmom." I said laying down.
Penny laughed quietly and got a cot set up.
"Hey Owl Eyes. Guest rooms across the hall if ya want." I called out to her.
"Sadly I can't take that offer. I need to be in the room with the patient, Apollo's rules." Penny called back.
"I don't want you sleeping on the floor. Set a pillow between us, and sleep on the bed with me, ok?" I said concerned.
I wasn't lying. She was a good friend, and an amazing person. She didn't deserve to sleep on the floor for my sake. I fucked up, I got hurt, and she didn't deserve a nap on the floor for that. Deep down in my heart I could tell that wasn't the only reason though. Penny smiled at me and set a pillow down.
"Fucking silk everything." Penny quietly said laughing.
"I change my mind, sleep on the floor." I responded back laughing.
We both laid down, and I felt the cold air settle in. It felt cold and still like death itself was settling in the room. I slowly relaxed while pulling my black sheets over me, and passed out. My dream came flooding in like a dam breaking, and I would soon learn why.
