After a careful examination of everything around Daedalus' workshop only one conclusion could be made, Daedalus was Leonardo Da Vinci. That would explain his genius, and also help explain why his robot design looked like a badly designed automaton. Is is possible he was trying to make a new body for himself, but failed?
My mind kept wondering, but it had stopped when I looked at Mino once more. His body was covered in ash, and his eyes showed pictures of despair that no human should feel. Penny was patching him up, but I don't think all of the ambrosia in the world could fix his mind.
"Run me through it again, what happened?" Seth asked, he was sitting in a seat by a work table with an unfinished plastic arm on it.
"I was on the path of Orpheus, I turned around and suddenly I was in Tartarus. I dodged a lot of monsters and Titans. I even ran into Medusa, she's still mad at Adam." Mino explained, but for some reason he couldn't take his eyes off of Olivia.
Seth sat down, he probably couldn't believe that someone actually made it out of Tartarus alive. He picked up the plastic arm on the table and began to tinker with it. I've seen Seth do this before, when he started thinking he needed something to do. He practically took the thing apart, and started messing with the circuits and gears. His hands flew over the parts like he had done this several times over.
"Put it down Seth!" Penny exclaimed going over to him, she was having a grand time surrounded by lost works of Da Vinci (Or Daedalus) and seeing Seth so confidently mess one up was probably torture for her.
"I'm fixing it Owl Eyes. See this part here in the wrist?" Seth said pointing to a small part in the wrist, "It's supposed to break into five pieces and go into the fingers for mobility. For some reason though they fell in the wrists. That or Daedalus hasn't added the right blockers yet.".
Seth had always enjoyed mechanics with Hephaestus, and he loved the idea of automatons. He fiddled with the part, and I could see he finally realized what was wrong. I was more intrigued with watching my brother and Penny mess with a robotic arm than anything else.
"You see this line right here?" Seth asked pointing to a small cut, that was barley visible in the plastic, that went all around the wrist.
"Of course I do, but what about it?" Penny asked intrigued that someone finally knew more than her.
"It makes the hand go all the way around, he's trying to make the hand spin all the way around. That would give the wrist a three hundred and sixty degree turn radius. He was testing it, and is using a block system that can drop at his command. He's giving up mobility in his fingers for extra mobility in his wrist. It's a dueling arm! That makes so much more sense now!" Seth exclaimed putting it back together, however he stopped.
Seth started grabbing extra parts and adding it to the arm, he gave up fast and efficient for careful and effective.
"What're you doing Seth?" I asked going to the table.
"Improving the design. I'm making it to where he doesn't have to give up finger mobility for wrist mobility." Seth added five black rods to the design instead of the plain wires.
I could see what he was thinking now. If he used the rods with wires spiraling them, it would prevent the new parts from hitting the old ones. It would work as the new blocker in his fingers, instead of ones that could drop. The rods would also strengthen the wrist movements making it far more deadly.
"Put that down Seth Riley!" A males voice called out.
I turned around quickly and saw Daedalus there. He looked about thirty, but I knew better than that (he's probably improved his body countless times since he was Da Vinci, I know the eye was new since I last saw him). His brown hair was combed back, and he wore tattered and torn clothes. One of his eyes was blue, while the other was a bright yellow (probably an enhancement on his eye). As for his skin, it was flawless. He had a nice tan tone, which was probably what he wanted. I couldn't take my eyes off of where his left arm was supposed to be. Instead wires and nerve connectors spilled out from an empty socket.
"Sorry sir….I just saw the design and it was fascinating….I actually improved it for you." Seth said, his face showed he was very apologetic as he handed Daedalus the arm.
Daedalus took his arm and place it in it's socket. The wires moved on their own to attach the new arm. Daedalus moved his fingers, but then he looked stunned.
"You broke it." Daedalus muttered.
"No he didn't sir. Try moving your hand." I said, really hopeful that it would work.
Daedalus moved his hand all the way around and looked impressed. He picked up a small training sword and held it. He spun his hand a few more times.
"Great job! I haven't seen work like this since Perdix." Daedalus confessed smiling.
Seth looked proud, and then a wave of fear came over him.
"Aw come on Seth, you'd look good as a crow." I said, I could hear Adam laugh from the corner of the room where he was setting down bags of artifacts.
"Usually I have questions to see if you can return here, but this new arm will do. All of you are welcome back here." Daedalus said, taking out two keys.
Daedalus gave a key to Seth, and put the other key in a wall. A portal opened in the wall, and Olivia picked Mino up. She looked unamused as she stepped through the portal with the lump of demigod thrown across her shoulders.
"We completely forgot about Mino….." Adam said grabbing a bag.
"Yeah….I'll get him some flowers…" I said grabbing Ares' Spartan banner.
Seth and Penny grabbed the other two bags, and we all stepped through the portal one after the other (Adam first, Penny second, Seth third, and me last).
When I stepped through the portal I had stepped on solid ground. When I looked around I saw I was on the redwood path to Town Augustus. I looked behind me and saw Olivia carrying Mino to the local clinic. We all followed her out of concern for a newly remembered Mino.
I looked around the town to see small military patrols and shops for weapons and gear. Town Augustus was the more military focused town, which only made Lisa Klein's (the best healer known to exist) presence make even more sense.
We all walked into the clinic to see a girl with dirty blonde hair and bright green eyes. She wore leather armor with a white uniform underneath. On her arm she had a staff of Asclepius patch sewn on, and a dagger at her side. She also had incredibly pale skin, she actually looked like a kid of Hades (or Pluto in her case) instead of Apollo.
We were looking at Lisa Klein and in front of her was Sara Pearl, the Daughter of Poseidon that was supposedly on a quest in the Bermuda. Olivia immediately looked pissed, which I'm pretty sure was sibling rivalry. Especially since they were both prized kids of Poseidon, but we would soon discover Sara had an edge that Olivia could never hope to achieve. Sara had an amazing ability that was rare in children of Poseidon.
