CHAPTER:LVIII:The Battle Of San Francisco Continues.

Our forces had retreated back into the city, Sara's house was being used as a command hub. Civilians were now caught in a war they didn't understand. As for my group we were stuck trying to figure out where the last artifacts were. Adam, Penny, Mino, Olivia, Seth, and I all sat at the table in Sara's kitchen.

"What do all of the places have in common with each other? We have the Gorgon island, we have the Path of Orpheus, and The Labyrinth." Seth asked looking through books of mythology.

"I don't know! Gods this is frustrating! The locations aren't mentioned in the same story, they aren't to close to each other on the maps, and the monster aren't the same! What are we fucking missing!" Penny yelled, clearly upset that this was stumping her.

Penny is intelligent, she had a photographic memory and she couldn't do anything to help us here. Penny looked ready to start breaking shit. I took the book from her hand and placed it back on it's shelf.

"Now that the book is out of harms way, have we tried modern stories? Wars, lost tales, forgotten heroes?" I asked looking at the group.

"The Story of Joseph Otto. He studied The Gorgons, The Underworld, and The Labyrinth." Sara said coming downstairs holding a book with an Omega symbol on the cover.

"It might be in the forgotten temple he found." Adam responded, I kept forgetting that Adam actually has a recordable IQ past all the jokes.

"There's no record of it, whatsoever." Olivia said sitting down.

"There might be. My mother told me about a minor goddess that resides in a library on the east coast, her name is Eva Rossi, The Goddess of Written Word. She lives in a place called Marco Rey Estate." Penny said.

"I thought that place was a myth, it was the house of The First Roman if I recall correctly." Seth thought back to the legend.

"Yeah the first Roman demigod since the fall of the Roman Empire, Cristiano Moretti, Son of Mercury." Penny explained, happy that she could keep up with the topic now.

"So where is this place?" Olivia asked.

"An old abandoned town in Maine, Mercury turned the place into a demigod safe haven." Penny said standing up looking through books.

"First things first, we need to finish up here Dreamwalker is not gonna stop till we defeat her army." Sara said, still not leaving the staircase.

"That's gonna take two days, four at the most." Keaton stated walking in through the front door.

"She brought that many forces?" Seth asked.

"No, we got kids of Hecate and Thanatos in the mix that are raising the dead, and so many more monsters." Keaton responded. "Now get some rest guys, I'll call reinforcements."

Keaton walked out the door and Sara went back upstairs. Adam grabbed his bow, and Seth got his crossbow.

"I'm heading up to the attic with Seth, we set our cots up before we went to the bridge." Adam said walking upstairs, with Seth close behind. It was nice that Seth found an archery buddy.

"I'm gonna sleep on the couch." Mino said going to the living room.

"I call the basement with the fish!" Olivia yelled running into the basement.

Sara rolled her eyes and went upstairs. "I'm gonna fall asleep in my room…..after I cover the windows…" Sara called out.

"I'm taking Andromeda's room. You're welcome to join me Owl Eyes." I said to Penny while walking upstairs.

I entered Andromeda's room, hearing Penny's footsteps behind me the whole way. I laid down on Andromeda's bed and curled up. The battle at the bridge was exhausting, especially since I used any reserve power I had. I felt Penny lay behind me and hug me gently.

"How are you so cold?!" Penny laughed.

I shrugged and fell asleep with a smile on my face. When I came to in my dream I was by the San Francisco Bay. Luke was holding Deonna's body by the bay having a complete breakdown. His eyes were puffy and bloodshot with tears streaming down his face. Deonna's body was pale and looked stiff, Luke was waiting till nightfall to bury the closest person to him.

"We need to bury her Luke, and we need to get back to the battle." A woman's voice called out to him.

"No! Not yet, please…..I failed her once….I won't fail her again." Luke said in between sobs.

Luke's voice was broken and shaky. His whole body was trembling but he still wouldn't let Deonna's body touch the ground. I looked around and saw that the sun was close to vanishing beyond the horizon. A mist went next to Luke, and turned into a woman. It was Khaos, I recognized her from my dream about a week ago.

"Alright Half-god, I understand. She meant a lot to you, huh? Not a lover but not a sister either, a platonic soulmate more like. Yet you shared a connection with her, one that runs deeper than the core of your soul." Khaos said looking at Deonna.

"Sol's and Luna's Protectors teach us balance and control. We bond with our counterparts in blood pacts. When she died, I died, I felt her pain on that bridge. That damn undead bastard!" Luke said, his voice was firm now and it was filled with hatred.

"You mean Keaton Francis, right? What's his title again? Legatus Legionis, Legion leader of Pluto's Guard." Khaos said through a motherly smile.

"Yeah, him and Deonna constantly fought over recruits. It was always out of mutual respect, but this was brutal. He didn't have to kill her! She was retreating dammit! Why?!….why did he…." Luke said his voice breaking again.

Khaos put a hand on Luke's back and her other on Deonna's head. Khaos slowly closed the wound on Deonna's head and closed her eyes. Khaos rubbed Luke's back as they watched the sun slip beneath the horizon.

When it did Khaos opened a hole in the ground, and Luke slowly lowered Deonna into the makeshift grave.

"When the day turns to night the children of darkness come out to play. The light will always return but for now you must thrive in silver spotlights." Luke said quietly.

Khaos closed the hole and faded back to mist as Luke walked away. I walked away but after a few steps I was on the roof of Alcatraz.

"The white haired brat is proving to be a nuisance." A males voice hissed.

I looked up and saw Thanatos with Morpheus and four other demigods. Two of the demigods I knew, they were Dreamwalker and Sorcerer. The one to Dreamwalker's left was pale and sickly looking. His hair was darker than night, but his eyes were bright blue. He was draped in all black from head to toe, similar to Thanatos. That had to be the Son of Thanatos that the Minor God Five called Crow.

The other demigod was to Sorcerer's right was a female. She had blonde hair, and bright green eyes like Apollo's. The girl was also tanned instead of sickly and pale. She was wearing medical attire similar to Lisa Klein's with the same medical patch. That, I believed, was Ghost the Daughter of Asclepius.

"Patience Thanatos, this next battle will prove that the Unknown Order has grown since 1914. I waited a millennia to deploy them at this capacity." Morpheus said.

"We made a real mistake electing Hitler in 1933 as our mortal leader, he was real cagey about our forces." Thanatos said.

"Yeah, those damn Nazis couldn't win that war if all of the world powers rolled over and played dead for them." Morpheus laughed.

"I did the right thing when I killed him, he almost escaped too! He was halfway to Argentina when I showed up." Thanatos responded.

Morpheus looked off into the distance. "Don't forget the nuclear genius Oppenheimer. We gave the U.S the code to the universe and he almost blew it. If it wasn't for the atom bomb Khaos wouldn't have risen to power as fast as she did." He smiled crouching down.

I stood there horrified. How long have the gods been shaping history for their own sick purposes. They probably started World War One as well, if Khaos had been building up power since then that meant that she would be able to break out of Tartarus soon. She's been feeding off of the discord of the world to make her own sick symphony of war and violence.

"My dear, you've returned to me." Thanatos said turning around and facing me.

My eyes widened immediately. Some gods could see me in my prophetic state, and it seemed that Thanatos one of them. Or was Morpheus allowing him to see me? Maybe it was Khaos showing me to him as well. I knew that his charm wouldn't work on me in this state, at least I hoped it wouldn't, but that wouldn't make this fight easy.
