Chapter 8

"I would make a physics joke but I can't find one" Jody said, feeling rather proud of herself.

"Obviously Jody, physics already thinks you're a joke and it's chemistry Joe not physics"

"Well I hope you fail!" She retorted.

"Gee thanks"

"Hey, hey, heyyy ; no cat fights in my car, apologise Ashley"

"Sorry Joe"

Jody did not respond, she only rolled her eyes at me. One because she hates it when I call her "Joe" and two I said something that made her sound dumb - she likes the high horse and I don't mind helping her fall off it. The bickering has changed my mood from "not-so-great" to "I guess you'll make it today Ash". Nothing like family time.

After a "good" fifteen minutes the school comes into view and the anticipated talk with Kylie is about to begin. I can't help but feel nervous about it. Kylie is too shady for her own good and I'd rather not be involved in any of her personal drama. I am not trying to seem like a bad friend here but she has a history of not so great things.

* Meet me at the library* Kylie's text reads. Since my mom dropped us off at the school's north entrance, the walk to the library will be less than five minutes. I say my goodbyes and get off the car and walk to the library. I'm making a mental note to spend the afternoon finishing off all the assignments I have tomorrow.

As I walk into the library I see that Ky is one of the few in the library. She looks exhausted. Her green eyes look like her soul has been sucked out of them. I can't help but feel sorry for her. I also can't help but notice that even though she looks beat down she has still has some of the menace she is known for. This is the assurance that the war is not over.

"You look like a rat" I said to her. Kylie hates it when people show her sympathy - says it makes her look weak. "Thanks" and I was awarded with pearly whites.

"What happened?" I said sitting down with her in the front row.

"Well, things that should not have happened, happened" "Robin and I were on a date like normal people;had lunch and drinks then suggested that we go to his house and he spiked my drink there and obviously I do not remember the rest."

She said the last line with a faint smile.

"I'm gonna help you make them pay Ky, I'll make sure Robin and Richard pay for this." "For now, just hold on and try to keep your head in the game. We have finals coming." She gave me a shy smile - they really broke her. Kylie doesn't do shy smiles.

We both stood up and are heading to the first lesson which is Biology. The classroom is about few steps away and I really wanted us to be the first ones in class so that no one will pay attention to Ky. I would have asked her how her family is taking this whole thing and I feel as though there were too many details left out in my briefing but I do not really want to push her. She needs a friend not the police, well she does need them both but baby steps.

Just as I had hoped the Bio class was empty and she and I placed ourselves in front so that when class is over we can leave immediately. How did I end up being a body guard?

One-by-one students are walking into the classroom and there stares and quiet snickers come our way and every time they do I can see the shame written on Kylie's face and I can't even help her because saying something now would only add onto the drama in her life. I thought the Nick thing was horrible but seeing Ky's eyes made me feel pathetic.

I hope that this whole thing blows over, I wonder how her family feels about this. Ky has her aunt Marina taking of her and by what she has told me Marina has grown really tired of Kylie I wouldn't blame her for a lot of things but I wish she could support her through this one. No one could ever ask for this type of harassment.
