Lucy POV
"Centuries ago there was a young girl of eighteen. She had magical powers that no one else did. Her tribe knew about her gifts for she provided them with warmth in winter, shelter when storms raged, heal the ill and many more wondrous things. And they respected her dearly for it. But other tribes feared her and called her a witch. A wicked sorceress that could kill with a thought.
But they didn't dare attack, for her tribe was the largest and strongest...After months of respect from her tribe and fear from others. She found her one true love in a traveling tribe that was constantly moving, they finally stopped with these two souls uniting. And the man's tribe and woman's tribe united, they became the largest and most feared tribe in the world.
A year later they were happily married, but with no children yet...One night twenty men went hunting but they were attacked by a large pack of ravenous wolves. Thankfully only eight were injured but the young woman's husband was one of those eight and his injuries were far more severe. They rushed him and the others back to the tribe's village and tended to them quickly. But the man sadly slipped into a coma.
Weeks passed without him waking and the woman didn't let any of the healers come into their home to tend to him. She took care of him. After five weeks without any changes, she decided to fetch some water by the river one morning for his, still healing, injuries when a wolf approached her.
She dropped the bucket of water she was holding and quickly unsheathed the knife she always carried with her. By the description of the wolf from the men that went hunting and the last known memories of her husband she knew this was the wolf that hurt her beloved. When the wolf lunged, she was ready. She quickly stabbed it in the abdomen and it fell to the ground, growling in rage and whimpering in pain. Then she thought of a ritual that could save her love and dragged the wolf to the village.
After an hour of preparation, she did the ritual. Turning her husband into another species. The first ever Werewolf. He could turn into a gigantic wolf, be inhumanly fast and strong, he would heal insanely fast and the wolf would be like another being within him. They would be companions...So the man woke up and instead of being mad at her for turning him in a beast, he thanked her for allowing him to see her once again. They were once again united and still madly in love.
Their tribe found out and yet again, only respected her instead of fear her. But they asked for her to make them just like her husband and she did. Because now all of the tribe's people could protect themselves. But since her love was the first, he was naturally the strongest and he became the Alpha King. Over time, the werewolves started to go feral. Unable to control their beasts. The witch created MATES, for them to calm the beasts.
Some wolves found their mates in other tribes and joined those, expanding the liking of the witch and the werewolf population. The first wolves became Alphas and the witch's husband was their King and she was their Queen. They called her, Luna Dea. (translation-Moon Goddess in Latin.)
And that is how werewolves came to exist." I finish the story. And surprisingly Deric didn't interrupt me even once.
"Do you have any questions?" I ask him, uncertain because he's looking down at the floor.
"Why isn't it the same as the one everyone knows?" He asks.
"It's because people called the Moon Goddess greedy and selfish. But witches actually have stronger emotions than humans. They feel things on a higher level. But it's nothing compared to our emotions." I try to explain in the best way I can. I look at Deric and see that his eyes are filled with wonder and fascination.
"Can you tell me about Pheras now?" He asks politely.
"It's a story involving the Moon Goddess to." He nods, telling me to go on.
"I won't interrupt." He promises in a delicate whisper. When he saw my hesitation.
"After two years, the Moon Goddess and Alpha King was gifted with a little girl and she had two older brothers, twin brothers. During the girl's younger years, she showed signs of magic but they weren't very noticeable. When she was ten, their pack/old tribe was attacked by another and she had to watch how they were gonna kill her brothers, she lost it. When the attackers was close enough she killed them with her magic.
Their pack lived in peace after that instead of the lone wolves trying to take the young witch. And on her eighteenth birthday, the unexpected happened. She shifted into a wolf with pure white fur and piercing green eyes. At first people feared her but then saw that she means no harm. But her mother was fascinated, so she called this new species, the Phera. They became the equals to the Alpha King, apart from their mate. After all she was the King's daughter.
And that is how the Phera existed.
But each five hundred years a new Phera is born and the other/previous dies. Because there are dangers and wars that happen BECAUSE of the Phera, and more than one would be a catastrophe."
I turn away from him and look out the window. My eyes start to fill with tears at the realization of how short my life will be compared to his. I hear him move closer to me and feel sparks over my cheek before I feel his fingers curl over my cheek bone. His thumb rubs circles over my cheek, trying to urge me to face him again.
"Please look at me, Lucy." he begs in a soft voice. He puts his forefinger under my chin and gently turns my head toward him. "Why are you crying?" he asks in concern. I sniffle a few times and take a deep breath. "I was thinking about how short my life will be compared to yours." I admit in a small whisper. I look up at him and see the corners of his lips pull up into a sweet, reasuring smile. His thumb rubs my cheek in smooth circles, and his eyes are filled with love. "When the time comes, we'll deal with it. For now, let's just focus on getting to know each other and getting you settled in. Besides we still have about 480 years till then." He smiles at me playfully and I can't help but let out a little laugh. His smile immediately widens and my insides start to melt. My own smile grows wider. "Thank you, Deric. For everything." His smile grows wider if that's even possible. "It's my absolute pleasure, Lucy."
"If you'd like and feel up to it, you can meet my friends? Well their technically my Beta and female beta. But only if your up to it." He asks hesitantly. I look into his eyes and take a deep breath. Deric will protect us if anything happens. Luce says in my head and I can't help but agree with her. I feel completely safe with him. "Yes. I'd like to meet them." His eyes start to sparkle with happiness. His eyes turn glassy and I know he's mindlinking his friends. After a few seconds he looks deeply into my eyes. "Thank you. I really want you to meet them." He tells me in confidence. "What about your parents?" I ask him in wonder and he makes a funny face and grunts.
"That might be to much to handle for today." I roll my eyes and sigh in exasperation. "I'm not as fragile as I look." I tell him in confidence but he just chuckles and throws his head back on the couch. I smile at the deep rumble of his laughter vibrating through the couch. After a few seconds he takes a deep breath and turns his head to look at me. "YOU might be able to handle it but I'm not so sure about ME. My parents can be a handful at times." He says with a hint of laughter in his voice. For the first time in years I find myself laughing and it feels great. But all to soon, someone knocks on the door and my laughter stops abruptly. "They're here." Deric says and stands up. I follow close on his heals and as he walks to the door, I stay behind him. He reaches out and opens the door.
