The intense pressure filtered through my skin. I could feel a certain boiling in my veins. We just left a dead man on the road for heavens sake and the sun decided to roast our epidermis today of all days. I honestly wished the latter was the most of my problems but a girl can only dream. My mind knew better. The air condition was on full blast as we rode on the dry and probably heated tarmac. The silence was deafening but none of us bothered to break it because deep down we knew we needed our mental health in check. We needed this. Maybe one more than the other but we both basked in it. Hiding beneath the warmth of unspoken words. The silence was indeed golden. I looked at the possibly psychotic Abel that I knew nothing about and I began to ask myself.

How did I get here?

His back was relaxed into the seat. More relaxed than a person who shot a man dead some minutes ago. The splattered blood on his shirt had already dried up but his face. His face without blemish. An angelic face for a demonic killer. His hands held on to the steering wheel like he had more experience than I pegged him for. He looked beautiful. If only Robin looked so beautiful. What am I saying? Dude was a cheating bastard and I hope never to return to such an obscene man. I returned my gaze to the road but my mind refused to wander off from the pending question. Who is Abel?

A man that seems so friendly but never hesitated to kill. Let us not forget that I am now a hostage of his and I have this gut feeling I am not the first. Call me judgemental but remember he hides a gun under his car seat. At this point, I wouldn't mind abandoning my belongings and making a run for it if only he was a little obtuse upstairs which clearly he was not. "The weather is nice." I looked at him. His sultry green eyes already staring right back at me. He returned his focus back to the road not failing to steal little glances from the side. "The weather is not nice. It's horrible" I folded my hands beneath my chest and mustered the biggest frown I could. "I am guessing that frown is not just about the weather." He caught on quickly. I told you his mind was no where near being obtuse. I wonder if he got some sort of military training. "Where are you taking me to? Are you in the military? Where did you get that bullet from? Who is after you?" I spewed out questions from my mouth in haste. "Woah! Calm down. All you need to know is that I am one of the good guys. Answering all those questions might put you in more danger than you have managed to step into and you might want to change that you to us. Who is after us? "He swerved to the right and entered into a wheat field. "Are you in the military?" A loud chuckle escaped from his mouth. "No, I am not from the military."

"I don't feel safe." I finally confessed out loud. "You don't need to feel safe. You just need to feel. It makes you human and most of all makes you sane." He reached out and brushed my dusty jacket. "I will have you know that my parents are quite influential around this place and any game you try to play with my life will not go unnoticed." I looked him dead in the eyes and gave empty threats but he took it quite seriously or at least pretended. The journey continued and the sun got hotter if that was even possible. At some point I couldn't rest on the window with the fear of getting burns. "It's so hot out there." I looked out of the window. "It's an illusion."

"What? The glass is giving hot kettle vibes and you call that an illusion. You must be crazy." I unlocked my phone to check my messages and turned out we lost signal again. "You have got to be kidding me?" I groaned in agony. "Touch the glass." Abel said to my dismay. "Are you racist or what? "

Abel threw his hands up in the air."I can never say the right words with you can I?" I admit I went a little overboard but this guy has done nothing but make my life miserable. I looked down at my phone expecting a bar of service at least but I found nothing. Shame on the government for not getting to this region. "If you are thinking of calling anyone of your family members , please don't. "

"Is there anything I can do here than to just stare at you drive us to God knows where?" I grumbled. I would have loved to even hear from home even if all I was likely to hear were the screams of mum calling to come back home and not run away. I missed home. I missed my less ruined life. "So you are not going to touch the window ." I frowned at the amusement in his voice.

"No, I am not Abel. I am not going to touch a sizzling piece of glass. "The sneaky smile on his face made me wonder what he was up to. I didn't wonder for long though. He grabbed my hand and pressed it on the window. I screamed and trashed in his arms. I used the other hand to throw a quick punch to his face but I missed scraping his jaw. "Calm down and feel it." I laid my hands flat on the window and to my utmost surprise it didn't hurt or burn. " Are you an alien? Is this alien territory? " I looked back at Abel expecting an answer but I got none. He released my hand and clutched his chest like he was in pain. I took a proper look and discovered he was laughing. Wow! He was laughing at me.

"You are definitely a funny one. " He shook his head and resumed driving. "It's an illusion. The heat is an illusion of the mind." I touched the glass again this time rubbing my hands all over it. It sounded to outlandish to be true . Things like this don't happen on the country side but I could not not believe him. He had enough already for me to understand that his words are not to be joked with. "Fine. I will refrain from asking you any other questions till we get to our destination since you are hell bent on messing with my sanity after giving me advise on maintaining it on this journey. Just hope I don't unlock some alter ego personality by the time all this is over."

"Good to hear we are on the same page now. "Oh, we were definitely not on the same page. I just needed to get myself together. Everything was happening so fast. "We are here." I looked at the vast plantation of maize planted in a field. " So you are a farmer after all. The plantation is nice."

"Get down Louise. I am not a farmer." He turned off the ignition. "You are going to kill me, aren't you? I swear if you let me go I won't tell a soul." Tears prickled my eyes when I realized what I had gotten myself into.
