CHAPTER EIGHT

I had taken a few books to sea and I'd taken a particular liking to Shakespeare, I relished reading his works and I often read them even when I lived and worked at Treasures Inn. This particular night I was reading Julius Caesar, though I'd read it several times, it's theme of pride, treachery and bravery never ceased to intrigue me and my favourite excerpt was Julius Caesar's assertion to his wife Calpurnia;

Caesar shall forth: the things that threatened me

Never looked but on my back; when they shall see

The face of Caesar, they are vanished.

His bravery and confidence had been my guide through the years, I relished reading out these lines to Kyle in my much younger days and he would smile and tell me that such bravery existed only in Caesar's world. He always told me that it was praiseworthy to be a coward sometimes because brave people more often than not died too soon.
