CHAPTER NINE

I rose from my bed more nervous than I was the night before, the thought of imminent death overshadowed every other anxiety I had in mind. I had my bath and came out of the lodge to savour the sea breeze. I stood there looking at the calm sea waves absentmindedly then Mr.Cliff walked up to me smiling, I could spot the treachery hidden behind his smile, he leaned on a stick and Old Silver rested on his shoulders as taciturn as ever.

Finest of the lads onboard, he complimented holding out his right hand for a handshake, I took it despite my hatred for him.

I can see you are alone in your world, he added.

Yes I am, I confided.

It's a good thing. You're a brave lad from your looks, you shouldn't be more than 19 and you're seeking treasure. I must commend you, he said smiling.

Thank you sir, I thanked him without looking at him.
