CHAPTER TEN

December 24, 1800 started off auspiciously, the sea breeze caressed my body and I struggled to stand to my feet. I checked the chest of drawers in my cabin and found the laudanum given to me by the doctor the previous day. I slipped the little bottle into my breast pocket quickly and stepped out of my cabin. The other men on board moved about freely like there was nothing amiss. The doctor winked at me and smiled, Mr.Cliff seemed a bit nervous when he saw me, I saluted him and he gave me a pat on the back. I stepped into the kitchen and it was as neat as ever, I got down to prepare breakfast. It consisted of bacon, eggs, bread and coffee.

I exhibited a lot of nerve when I dropped snifters of laudanum into four cups of coffee specifically for Mr.Cliff and his men.
