CHAPTER 20

Yeon was going through Bree's clothes and making a mess instead of settling for one decent party fit. Even the top runway designers would not have put so much thought into one single fit as what he is doing right now. The amount of dedication he has for this definitely deserves an award.

"Come on, think!" Yeon thought to himself.

He was frustrated at this point. I mean who wouldn't be, right? Anyone would have given up if they were to be in his shoes. Who on earth spends so much time finding clothes? Note that this isn't even a Gucci runway show. Both Bree and Yeon are way too similar in this certain area. Probably why the chemistry between them is amazing.

*Meanwhile in the kitchen*

Bree was sitting on the kitchen counter, still curious if her ex-best friend would want to see her tonight. She was thinking of alternative plans too, just in case he wasn't at home. Qif always had simple birthdays. The only time he threw a huge party was when their high school graduation was a day before his birthday. It became a graduation after-party. The party was so big that it was trending on Twitter for 2 days straight. So much for a non-celebrity.

"What if he has forgotten all about me? Now that would be a stab in the pride and not to mention my semi-existing feelings. What if she's there with him? Oh, dear God!" she was having one of those solo board meetings to herself again.

As much as she wanted to reconcile with Qif, Bree really didn't want his so-called girlfriend to be there. She did have a tiny bit of thought that he would have broken up with her because he didn't really seem to be happy when he was with her. Can't blame him though that no good troublemaker was controlling him as if he didn't have a mind of his own.

All of a sudden, there was a loud shriek coming from next door. It was so loud that it could have summoned the whole neighbourhood for all she knew. Bree rushed to her door to check it out. She dashed in such a hurry that she tipped over her favourite vase. Yeon came rushing down the stairs too. He almost fell while skipping steps.

"What's all the ruckus all about?" Yeon looked startled.

"I have no idea but I'm about to check it out. Let's go!" Bree dragged him towards the front door.

The duo leaned towards their window to get a clearer view of the chaos outside. Yet, there wasn't a soul in sight. They decided to take a closer look as it came from next door. Bree was afraid that an intruder broke in next door. As she was walking towards the door, Yeon stopped her by grabbing her wrist.

"What if it's a trap?" he asked her, looking concerned.

"What if it's not, though? What if they really need help? Do you expect me to just sit here for the sake of me being safe rather than trying to help someone who desperately needs it?" she gave him a death glare. It was deadly enough for him to loosen his grip.

Bree sprinted next door, hoping to find the source of the shriek. The door was locked and pretty steady. She couldn't break it down, by herself that is. Just then, Yeon came to help her bring that gloomy-looking door down.

As these two walked in, they saw the most unrelated and unexpected things on the floor. A mysterious white powder was scattered all over the black marble tiles, blood smeared on the walls and white furniture and a half-eaten hamburger on a plate which was placed on the dining table next to a laptop that appeared to be smashed really hard. The person who smashed it sure didn't want to retrieve any files from it. It was too bad in shape to be caused by an accident.

"Oh, my dear God!" Bree let out in disbelief.

"I know, right? Who has black marble tiles in a luxury apartment lot? These people have zero sense of fashion!" he said, sighing in disappointment.

"Really? You really think this is the right time to be joking around? You're just so irresponsible sometimes, you know that?" she was disgusted by his playful behaviour.

"Gosh I didn't mean to sound playful but I honestly thought that was what you were about to say hun. I did notice the bloodstain pattern to be a little too off. I mean if I were to escape a homicide or a murder, I would definitely run towards the main door to exit the house instead of running to the basement. Don't you think it's odd that Mrs Jonas thought of her basement in desperate times?" he was tracing the bloodstains with his fingers.

"As much as I want to appreciate your sexy brain, your current actions are preventing me from doing so. Are you purposely trying to frame yourself for something that you didn't do right now?" Bree was pulling his left ear so hard that it turned red "Why are you like this? Do you want to get arrested or something?" she was furious.

"WOMAN MY EAR IS GOING TO FALL OFF IF YOU KEEP THIS UP!" he was yelling at the top of his lungs. In a very high pitch on that count.

"Sorry not sorry, babe. Besides, you deserved a small reality check. I'm heading to the basement. Check upstairs without leaving prints, will you?" she turned her back on him and started walking towards the basement.

"I won't let you down, ma'am!" he saluted.

"You better not!" she smiled while saying this, without facing him "or else you might want to prepare to sleep on the couch. Without a blanket if I may add!" she started to go down the steps of the basement.

"Why does she keep treating me like I'm 5 years old? I'm literally a few months older than her! Does she know that, though?" he got lost in his thoughts instead of doing what he was told.
