stepping inside Jhaesuns room yonghwa was surprised he had two beds in his room and his computer and closet and everything was arranged already for him
"you must have stayed up last night after I called you and did all this," yonghwa said in surprise
jhaesun laughed "I couldn't sleep after you called I got too excited"
"you like the poster?" he asked pointing up it was a poster of Yonghwa that came with his album
on the ceiling above their beds
yonghwa giggled seeing himself gazing back at him sitting on top of his black piano in a white room
"youre truly the best friend I have in this world I am happy I can keep you company like this at least before we couldn't meet, your room is nice and the bed is very comfortable I will enjoy staying here"
"well I'm happy to hear that much at least," jhaesun said with a smile let me show you something
it was Jhaesun's stereo set it was the type you could put multiple disks in to play Yonghwas album and his requiem disk he had sent jhaesun were both in there
"I listen to it all the time," Jhaesun told him softly yonghwa was touched he hugged jhaesun around the waist leaning against him his body was bigger than stronger than Yonghwa's at sixteen
just two years older than him but he was tall almost like some grown-ups too Yonghwas head only came up to his chest a bit
and he had muscles that yonghwa could feel as he hugged him somehow his strength reassured him
they began to unpack his suitcases Gregory came up to help
"Yonghwa what's all this?" Gregory asked opening and seeing his second suitcase filled with small appliances
"oh those are my moms" Yonghwa explained "I use them as my kitchen at home I keep them in my bedroom and I buy my own groceries with my allowance money and make my own meals it would be causing too much trouble asking for special meals to be made for me my dad would say I'm spoiled"
"and what is in here?" Gregory asked taking out a storage box
"thats my mom's plants," yonghwa said
Gregory opened the storage box and found five small potted flowering plants stored inside and a small watering can
"those are Eastern Desert Violets they are my moms favorite, they are pretty and easy to take care of they grow flowers all year round and they stay small and smell nice she grew these for me"
Yonghwa explained about the flowers that were various lovely shades of purple, pink, and blue flowers that looked like they were made of velvet with green leaves they grew as little shrubs over the top of their pots
"you just need to put them somewhere they can get sunlight I can water them"
"they look very healthy you've been caring for them?" Gregory asked
"yes since my mom died" Yonghwa replied
he took the flowers to a bedroom window and opened it revealing a flowerbox outside the window
"These flower boxes were built with the house but Jhaesun and I are often too busy to tend to flowers so they have been empty for a long time, you can put your flowers in the box you don't even need to unpot them just put them in like this"
yonghwa smiling as he watched the general put the five plants into the flowerbox outside the window that was on his side of Jhaesun's bedroom just above his bed,
he could easily open the window and water them every morning
"thank you Gregory thats perfect," Yonghwa said smiling admiring his handiwork
"Just want to make you feel at home," Gregory said ruffling his hair "no one here will harm your mother's things so you don't have to hide them away,"
turning away from the window
"here why don't you use this quilt? it feels really nice warm it's well made" he said picking it up it
was taken out of Yonghwa's suitcase and left folded on yonghwa's bed when he and Jhaesun unpacked his clothing and hung them in the closet
"thats my mom's quilt," yonghwa said "it's what I argued with my dad for and got hit he was going to throw it out my mom and I made it for their wedding anniversary"
"I am sure your mother will be happy to know that the quilt she made with so much love is actually
used to keep you warm while you rest at night" Gregory said kindly unfolding it and spreading it on Yonghwa's bed
it was very beautiful the colors she used, and the messages and special little memories stitched into each patch was about her family,
"Yonghwas First Birthday 20th of August" and an embroidered little picture of a baby with black hair and a birthday cake
and many other such messages and memories were on each patch the general could completely understand the boy's feelings and why he was so attached to his mother,
she was the kind of woman who nurtured and cherished her family a woman to whom love and bonds were deeply important he gathered
two big thick family photo albums and a purple hardback journal with a strap that kept it closed came out of his suitcase next
just one page of the albums was filled with many baby photos of yonghwa, his mother holding him in her arms she had curly black hair and brown eyes and a small cherubic sweet face yonghwa featured her strongly
there was little doubt in the general's mind that yonghwa was a beloved child at least by
his mother the way she held her son was so loving and protective in pictures she looked happy
the bruises on his face now told a very different story when it came to his father however
a controller and abuser is what the general gathered
the fact that he had to hide in his room to get some peace and to keep his mother's personal effects safe from his father
forced to hide and hoard them so the boy took them everywhere with him so they could not be taken from him
these things spoke volumes to the general about how Yonghwa's life at home was like
they finished unpacking the general got them both back to his alterran he drove them
to the large hospital on base it was just like any other hospital in a big city
except it was even bigger and most of the patients were soldiers and their family members
many different kinds of doctors worked at the military hospital
the general took them to a well-known Family doctor at that hospital
