Sun entered the wind element tent and delivered the green elemental stone to the person waiting inside.
"Good. You are the fourth one! It seems like this year we will have a full class again!"
Sun tilted his head in confusion and the teacher, noticing the confusion in Sun's face, explained.
"Good Morning! My name is Naomi Colby and I will be your teacher for your first year in the summoner school. You can call me teacher or Naomi if you like, but never call me Naonao, understood?"
"Y-yes teacher Naomi."
"Well, as I was saying, if we keep getting candidates at this pace, we should be able to fill our classroom this year as well, which is always nice as the more students we have, the more people you can exchange experiences with, making you progress faster in your studies and our life as teachers way easier as well."
"Hmm..."
"Before you ask, let me tell you that a full class has up to 30 students, up until now we got four if we count you, and we are still in the first morning of the recruitment day, so many more students should appear before the end of the day."
"Hmm..."
"Also the classes are divided in element, so don't think that only 30 students are entering the summoner school this year, the real number should be closer to 200~250 people, making 7 classes in total if we don't split people from the same element in multiple classes."
"Eh?"
"Yes, I know that there are 8 elements, but void element is almost a legend. Actually there has never been a student in this academy with the void element at all. Sometimes it makes me wonder if that void stone used in the test is real or fake, I mean, more than 50000 people are tested every year and even after testing over a million people all these years there was never a person with void element ever found!"
"I see..."
"Actually, two years ago-"
"Teacher! Can I please do my summon now? There are already people waiting outside..."
"Oh! Sorry, I lost myself for a bit. All right, take the stone and put it in the circle over there."
Sun did as he was told.
"Let go of the stone for now, I need to give you some instructions before we start."
"Okay..."
"Now, you will hold the stone on the circle for about 5 seconds before it fully charges the summoning circle. When it does, it will activate, taking you to the spirit plane."
"Actually it will just take your spirit, not your body, so make sure you do summons in a safe place, while being guarded by someone trustworthy if you don't want to end up dead or stuck forever in the spirit plane. Understood?"
"Yes..."
"Great. After you reach the spirit plane, you will see many spirits around you. Then the next thing you got to do is make a contract with any spirit."
"How do I do that?"
"To make a contract all you got to do is feed the spirit with a part of your energy."
"Hmm?"
"Just let them suck your finger..."
"All right!"
"Because it's your first summon, you will have no way to protect yourself, so aim for a small spirit. Nothing bigger than 1 meter. If you get something too strong, you won't be able to keep it in the real world until you improve your mana pool, so it will be as good as having a sword that you can't lift."
"Understood!"
"Next, if you are done or you are in danger, break this talisman to bring you back to our plane."
Saying so, she gave him 3 identical rune filled amulets.
"That's all. Do you have any question?"
"What kind of summons should I find over there?"
"There should be birds, dragons, pixies, elementals, slimes, wind wolfs,-"
"No, no, no. I mean, what should I aim for? You said small ones, right? But which one do you advise me to make a contract with?"
"Hmm... There is no doubt that the best ones are those you can use as mounts, if that's what you want you need to aim for baby griffons, baby dragons or baby wiverns. They should be all in the mountain side, while it's a bit dangerous, as long as you are fast you should be able to get one. If you just want something easy, birds are usually the best option. They are also easy to find, not too dangerous and fairly friendly. And what you want to avoid are pixies and slimes."
"Why?"
"They are both too weak to fight, and their growth is quite slow."
"I see..."
"Any more questions?"
"No... I think I'm fine..."
"All right then, let's begin!"
Sun stands over the summoning circle and reaches out to the elemental stone. Soon the magic in his body starts spreading through the summoning circle and light it up, starting from inside.
"Good luck!"
"Th-"
Before Sun is able to answer, the word around him turns black and he finds himself in the middle of a gigantic plain.
"Wooooow! This place is huge!"
There were mountains all around him, a forest could be seen in the distance and a green river as well.
"All right, let's see what we can find..."
Sun started walking in a random direction when a shadow suddenly covered him for a second and continued to ran through the field.
"What?"
Looking above he saw a huge dragon flying in the sky that was probably the source of the shadow that passed over him.
"So cool! It's a real dragon!"
Sun admired the dragon's majestic figure before continuing on his journey.
"Thanks the spirit lord that wind dragons are vegetarians. If not, I couldn't run fast enough if one of them ever decided to target me..."
Sun continued to search for a nice summon while walking through the field. He passed by many pixies, slimes, birds, foxes and rabbits, but nothing caught his attention. While he didn't dare to aim for a dragon, he wished for a summon that was at least strong enough to defend him in case of an emergency.
Unfortunately he wouldn't find any anywhere close to where he was. The summoning circle's landing point was located in a safe zone, which meant that no monster stronger than those foxes would be found anywhere near there.
Feeling that he was getting nowhere, Sun decided to jog for a bit. Surely there should be some note worthy summon somewhere, right? As long as he kept moving, he was bound to find something!
Time passed slowly and Sun couldn't help but notice he was not getting tired, no matter how long he ran, that's why, for the sake of testing, he decided to run at full speed for a bit to see if it was just a mistaken impression or it was real.
"Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!"
His speed rose, his breathing sped up, but the feeling of tiredness never arrived. It was quite an odd feeling for someone who was used to run around every morning. It was like something was missing, that there was no difficulty, things were just too easy.
"Isn't this world quite a cheat!?"
And so, maybe because he was distracted in running or just too fast, he didn't notice the end of the plain, leading to a sharp fall to the valley below.
"Wh-aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!"
