Life in another plane

Ray walked through the desert for a day, two days, three days, one week, one month, and finally arrived at an oasis.

Ray felt funny as he didn't feel tired even after walking for a whole month. He also didn't feel hungry or thirst, which made him worry if he was still alive.

Undead existed in many special areas in his world, but most of them were irrational beasts without control over their own instincts, so he ruled out the possibility of becoming an undead.

The next option was that this was the after life. There were a few religions that believed in a world without hunger or thirst after death. While this option fitted his situation like a glove, something inside of him was screaming that this was not correct.

Maybe this was all a dream? But he could feel the taste of the sand on his mouth and the softness of the sand on his feet, so it was too real to be just a dream...

Honestly he had no idea what was going on, but instead of stopping to think or despairing himself, he thought it was best to not think about it and just move on.

Somehow things will work out well. It had always been like this, and it should continue being for as long as he lived. That was a crazy belief that he had deep inside his heart.

As he arrived closer to the oasis, he noticed the water was not blue, or green, but metallic grey.

There were no animals around but there were still a few trees and bushes, making him question whether it was safe to drink this water or not.

Actually he was not feeling thirsty, so he didn't feel real need to drink the water, it was just that after no food nor water for so many days, his common sense was warning him that this couldn't keep going for long.

Ray did what any other person would do in his place... Okay, maybe not...

He took out a coin, said the magic words, and tossed it in the air.

"Head! I should drink it!"

A pretty irresponsible behavior, but for someone who blindly believed he was the chosen one, this was nothing but the norm.

Ray approached the water and scoped some by using his hands as a bow.

"Hmm... Tastes like... water, all right..."

The silver liquid had no special taste. Aside from the odd color it was no different than water. Ray kept drinking more and more until he felt full. After he was done, he sat while resting his back against a tree to rest a little bit. Seconds later, Ray started feeling dizzy and soon fell asleep.

--//--

Sun woke up inside the usual tree house, it had been a month since he started living there. After getting up and doing some stretches, he got out of the house using the rope in the middle of it.

"Hello Sun, good morning."

"Good morning Sun, you woke up early today."

"Morning Sun! Come play with us by the river!"

"Morning boy. Thanks again for the fish last night!"

As Sun got out of the house he was greeted by multiple people who wore smiles on their faces. Those people were quite similar to humans, but they had long ears, transparent wings, green hairs and some had horns on their heads. They called themselves Tyndalls and they were natives of this plane.

Sun had never heard of Tyndalls before, so he was quite surprise in finding a race so humanlike in this different plane.

What surprised him the most was not their looks, but their culture.

There were plenty of races that had humanlike bodies like fairies, pixies, gnomes and golems, but few of them had a culture so close to humans, making them wear clothes and use plenty of tools just like the humans do.

This didn't mean those races were stupid or anything. It was just that their natural advantages were more than enough to cover their needs, so they didn't feel the necessity for tools to make up for their weaknesses like the humans do.

The Tyndalls were quite similar to humans in this regard. They could use wind magic, but their humanlike bodies were not specially strong or anything, making them rely on armors, clothes and weapons just like humans do.

Maybe this was one of the reasons why summoner didn't usually make contracts with them. If you are able to make contract with a huge wolf that can defeat a dozen soldiers by himself, why would you choose to make a contract with someone who was just as strong as yourself? Makes no sense, right?

But this was not the only motive for their low contract rate. Contracts had to be made with both parts willingness. If one part didn't want to form the contract, the other part had almost no way to force it. Of course it was possible to trick the other party, but this was easier said than done to Tyndalls, after all they were really as intelligent and cunning as humans, so they wouldn't fall on pity tricks like offering food or some artifact.

Also, most contract were akin to slave contracts where the slave was forced to obey the master, so it was quite hard to convince the other party to willingly became the summoner's slave, after all, nobody but perverts want to be somebody else's slave, right?

Back to the story, Sun returned the greetings and refused the invite as he already had plans for the day. After walking for 5 minutes, he reached a big fountain in the middle of a plaza, where a young Tyndall was waiting for him.

"Did I made you wait too long?"

"No, no. I just got here! Since you arrived, let's go!"

The girl's name was Snow, most likely due to her big snow colored eyes.

Two months ago she had found Sun as he got out of the river and brought him back to her village to take a rest. After this the two became close friends and they were usually seen together most of the time, giving birth to many rumors which were actually not far from the truth.

During this past months Sun had learned a lot from Snow. He learned how to speak their language, how to use many of their magics and the geography of the surroundings as well as where it was safe and where it was not.

It could be said that after two months adapting Sun was now a full fledged member of their tribe, with his own responsibilities and rights.

Today Sun and Snow were going to explore the north side of the Cloud Swamp, located in the north of the village. Their objective was to find any of the three talismans Sun had lost when he fell from the cliff.

This was not the first time they headed out with such objective. During his whole stay such excursions were repeatedly done many times in hope of finding his way back to his own plane.

Sun knew that he couldn't stay in this plane forever. Teacher Naomi had told him that his real body would remain in their own plane, and that if anything happened to it, it would be bad news to him.

Because it had been so long since he entered the plane, he was worried that by now he would have no body to go back to. But if that was the case...what was he supposed to do???

No matter what he wanted to go back to his own plane. And the faster he did it, the higher the chances of him making it alive. With that in mind, once again he departed the village with Snow by his side.
