"I know your here Augustus."
"Damn your getting good." His soft voice answered behind me. I could hear the smile in his voice.
Augustus and I were getting along pretty well, of course he had the occasional disappearing into thin air. But that made me want to be even closer with him, to solve this mystery. Every time I would ask he would just ignore it. After the first visit at the library, he had came to visit me a few more times. And I wasn't complaining, he was amazing company to have around.
I turned around, "You know I still don't understand how you do this."
"Do what?" He asked as he picked up a book and help me organize the shelves.
"You know what I mean."
He sighed. "Saraphina, if I could tell you I would. Trust me." His voice was so gentle but full of sadness. And for now I dropped the subject.
"You know Gus, you said working at a library is pretty boring, but I think your enjoying it."
He shook his head and smiled. Something seemed off about him.
"Somethings wrong." I look into his eyes. "And tell me the truth." I say.
He ran his hand through his perfect blonde hair. "Its complicated Bella-"
"When are you gonna stop calling me that?" I groaned.
"Never." He said giving me his cute laugh.
This time I shook my head and rolled my eyes at him, "Someone sure loves to get on my bad side."
"Even if I tried, I couldnt get on your bad side. You love me to much." He said as he leaned on the shelf.
"Your asking for another hit from me arent you." I asked while raising my eyebrows.
He stared at my face. "Wow, you have perfect eyebrows."
I laughed, "Are you kidding me?"
"No, not at all."
" I cant believe you. Here we are trying to talk about something serious and you compliment my eyebrows. Not that I'm complaining." I answered back. I look at the time.
"Is it time to close up?" Gus asked.
"Yea, why you wanna do it for me? You know Im thinking of actually taking you in as a worker." My voice was serious but my face gave it away.
"Ha ha, hilarious."
"I know." I replied. "So are you gonna disappear, or you wanna go for a walk?"
He smiled. "A walk sounds good." And with that answer we locked up and left for our walk.
"Hey Gus." I said as I broke the peaceful silence between us.
"Hmm?" He answered as he stopped and looked at the stars.
"Whats going on?" I moved my eyes to the stars. It was a beautiful night, no cloud in sight and the stars were shining like diamonds. Being a small town, we didnt have town lights every where, but the light of the stars itself made it seem so bright and vivid. His sigh brought me back into the presence.
"If I told you, Id have to kill you Saraphina." His sparkling blue eyes moved from the stars to meet my own, sending chills down my body.
"But why?" I didn't understand this. "Everywhere I turn there's a mystery I cannot solve. Wouldn't be surprised if zombies showed up." I whispered the last part. He cracked a grin. "Maybe that's why it pulled me in. Its different just like me."
"Wait you always didn't live here?" He asked startled.
"I dont really like to talk about it." I softly answered playing with my ring.
"But sharing your grief lessens it on yourself."
I closed my eyes and shook my head. "You have a secret and this is my secret Gus." And with that I walked home leaving him behind this time confused as I disappeared into the night.
Percys POV
"Where were you last night?" I asked. I already knew the answer, I could sense his thoughts.
"And the other nights?" Nicolas added sitting down on the couch.
Gus smiled, "I went to see Saraphina."
I gritted my teeth together and tried to block the thoughts of the human that was coming from Gus.
Nicolas said, "She was pretty good looking for a human."
Gus winked at him, "And her company's just as good." He went for a high five.
"Enough!" They both looked at me. We three were all shocked at my reaction. "I mean Gus, you know whats going on." I ran my hand through my hair trying to cover up my jealousy of how he was hanging out with the human and only thing I was doing was sneaking in at night to watch her sleep. "We need to focus on this, I don't care what you do with it-" That part I had to force out. "But you know whats going on here"
"Perz, we all been working our ass off. And you know so." Gus said as his eyes softened.
"I agree. Wouldn't be bad if we went out a bit also. Especially you, your looking awful." Nicolas noted.
"Nicolas is right . I mean look at you, your getting bags under your eyes. I didn't even think that was possible for us." Gus said with care in his voice.
"I can't rest until this is over." And worst part was I didn't know when this would be over.
"Perz, we know your next in line for leadership and commander for the army but-."
"Then you guys should know how important this is, all of our life's are at stake. Not just mine, but everyone on our side." I got up. "I need some fresh air." And with that I went to the only place that calmed me down now, I went to it.
The window was open as always. I looked around her room until my eyes landed on her. I smirked and walked towards her bed. I could read everyone's mind, everyone's thoughts but hers. I put my hand on her cheek and whispered, "Been hanging out with Gus lately? I know I shouldn't be jealous, or mad. I despise your kind, but you Saraphina. Your different. I hate you but ... something pulls me to you."
The human moved her hand on top of my hand. I stood there froze, hoping I didn't wake her up. And I hadn't. I kissed her on the top of her head and moved my hand away. "Sweet dreams." Just as quick as I came, I left.
