"Yes, your Highness." Queen Ellen's maid answered then bowed again and turned around to go back to her mistress's court.
Quinn turned to her maids, "Let us go."
"Yes, your Highness." The nine maids answered in unison and bowed.
She walked out of the door as they straightened and followed her out with the last maid coming out of the chamber, closing the door. She walked to Queen Mother's court with the maids following behind her, passing many buildings and courts filled with beautiful flowers.
As they entered Queen Mother's court, Quinn saw her sitting at the table they sat at yesterday in the garden. She was drinking tea as she read from a brown covered book in her hand. Some of Queen Mother's maids were standing at the entrance while some were standing close to her.
They all bowed and greeted Quinn as she passed, making Queen Mother's attention move from the book to Quinn as she approached her. She smiled as Quinn came to stand in front of her. Quinn bowed and raised up, saying, "Good morning, mother. I hope you slept well last night."
Quinn's maids also bowed and greeted her.
"Good morning, Quinn. Please sit down." Queen Mother replied gesturing with her hand to the chair beside her as she nodded at Quinn's maids. Quinn sat down as her maids moved further back to give them privacy.
"I slept beautifully last night and I hope you had a wonderful night as well. I will be expecting grand children soon." She continued as she kept the book she was reading on the table and smiled in a teasing manner.
Quinn felt her face heat up with a blush at what her mother in law was implying. "Ah-I, we are not trying to have children now. Perhaps, later."
Queen Mother's eyes widened as she nodded in realization. "Ah, yes. You need to settle in as a newly wedded woman first."
Quinn smiled shyly as the blush on her face started cooling off. "Yes."
"Have you eaten?" Queen Mother's eyes went to her maids then to her.
"Not yet." She replied as she shook her head.
Queen Mother's brows furrowed as she turned to Quinn's maids, "Why haven't you brought the Queen her breakfast? That should have been one of the first few things you did upon arriving at her chambers this morning."
Fear crossed the maids' face as they apologized furiously, "We apologize, Queen Mother. Please forgive us, we won't do it again."
"It is fine for now, but do not repeat this mistake."
"Yes, your Highness. We thank you." The maids chorused as Quinn watched on.
They must be new maids if they did not what they were supposed to do and at what time. She also took note of how Queen Mother had let it slid, but if it were another woman in her position, she wouldn't.
"Alana, Yara, get my food for breakfast and bring them out." She ordered the two maids closest to her out of her maids.
"Yes, your Highness." They replied in unison then turned to walk inside her chambers.
She turned to Quinn as she explained, "I haven't eaten my breakfast either. We can eat it together."
Quinn smiled at her kindness and acceptance of her, "Thank you, mother."
The two maids brought out plates of delicious food with hot tea and placed them on the table, they went back in and brought more food to the table as Quinn looked at the food in amazement. It looked different from the food she ate at her kingdom. Most of the food were unfamiliar to her, but they smelt mouth watering.
The maids finished bringing out the food and went to stand beside the other maids, placing distance between them and the two Queens. Queen Mother picked up a spoon and started eating what looked like porridge. Quinn picked up a fork as she pulled a plate of some type of toasted bread sandwich and inhaled the scent of the food.
"This smells amazing and it looks so good." Quinn said, earning a smile from Queen Mother who switched from drinking her porridge, drinking her tea and eating some other dish.
Quinn picked off a piece of the sandwich and brought it to her mouth. It tasted as good as it looked and smelt. She added some of the other dishes to her plate and continued eating. The both of them soon finished eating and Queen Mother called the maids to clear the table.
"How is the Queen Dowager's health? I hope she has completely recovered." Quinn said as soon as the maids were done clearing the table.
"Yes, she is completely fine now. Demons that get sick like her do not have it as bad as humans do." Queen Mother replied with a smile.
As Quinn opened her mouth to reply, they heard loud footsteps that made both their attention go to the direction they were coming from. Quinn turned her head to the entrance of the court yard as Queen Mother did the same. It was Queen Ellen and Lady Aida with their maids following behind.
The other maids in the court yard bowed and greeted her as she passed. Her face was pinched in a scowl as she came to stand in front of them. That made Quinn remember that Queen Ellen had sent someone to come for her and she had said that she would go as soon as she was finished visiting Queen Mother. But then, she knew that Queen only called her for sinister reasons from what Vincent and his mother told her.
"Your Highness, you refused to come to my court when I specifically sent a maid to call you." Queen Ellen said through clenched teeth.
Quinn raised from her chair as she answered, "Yes, I am sorry. Vincent told me to greet Queen Mother first and when I came here, I lost track of the time."
"Is that really why or are you trying to show me that I am not Queen Mother? Vincent is also my son as I was his father's first wife." Queen Ellen said in calming anger, making Queen Mother raise up from her seat to face her with a frown.
