His question brought her attention back to him, She shook her head with a smile, "Not when they are praising us, but do they not have heightened hearing like we do?"
He glanced at her before looking back to where they were going, "No, they are lower ranking demons with very limited powers. Not everyone has our heightened senses because they are from the first bloodline of demons."
"Ah, I see, but the speed is from mother's vampire heritage as you have said, right?"
"Yes, as well as the fangs, but other demons do grow fangs when mating. That is only when mating, mine and mother's are all the time and only elongate when mating."
"That is interesting, it feels so exciting to know about all these." She said with a small laugh.
He chuckled too as he watched her laugh before returning his gaze to the path. She also glanced at him then at the path they were going. She saw that they have reached Queen Mother's courtyard. "I'm glad you find it exciting, Quinn."
She grinned at him as they entered the courtyard. Queen Mother was not sitting at the table there like she usually was. As she stared at the table, she said, "Mother is not outside today, I hope everything is well."
"It is, I am sure. She usually comes out when the weather is warm, but today, it is quite chilly." Vincent replied in his deep voice that sent shivers through her delightfully.
"Yes, it is very chilly." She replied as they made their way to Queen Mother's chamber door.
Vincent knocked on the door and they heard a come in, Caesar went ahead and opened the door for them and held it open for them. Vincent and Quinn entered the chambers while Caesar, her maids and his guards stayed outside. There were four maids standing on the two sides of the door and they bowed for them as the King and Queen entered.
Queen Mother's chambers was very large, there was a large bed at the far end along with wardrobes and dressing mirror, and a table and six chairs in the middle of the room. Queen Mother was sitting at the head of the table and looked up when she saw them. She smiled and stood up to welcome them.
They approached her, both smiling. As they reached her, Vincent said, "Good morning, mother."
"Good morning." Quinn added to his greeting.
"Good morning, my dears." Queen Mother replied as she looked at Vincent then at Quinn. Her eyes widened as she noticed the mark on Quinn's neck.
Her smile broadened as she looked happy to see the mark, she glanced up at Quinn's face then at Vincent's face. "You have marked her. That is wonderful, I am so happy that you did so early."
Vincent looked proud and happy as well as he moved closer to Quinn and replied, "Yes, it is indeed wonderful."
She then turned to Quinn, "You are now a demon like us and you will have vampire blood as well from my mixed heritage."
Quinn's face blushed as she nodded and looked down shyly. "How does it feel?"
Quinn glanced at Queen Mother when she heard her question, "It feels so great to be a demon. Everything is heightened and I also feel a lot stronger."
Queen Mother nodded, "That is good. Do you know what your power is?"
"Not yet." She replied.
Vincent glanced at her and then Queen Mother. "The change started this morning, it would take till sun down until she is fully changed, and that is when I want to help her find out her power or powers."
"Yes, that is a great idea." Queen Mother replied and Vincent nodded. "Join me for breakfast, I know that you two have not eaten anything yet since it is still very early in the morning."
"Yes, you are right, mother. We came here to show you my mark on her and to have breakfast with you." Vincent said as he released Quinn's hand and sat down on the chair on the right side of Queen Mother's chair. Quinn sat down on the chair beside him.
Queen Mother nodded, "I expected that when you took her away with you yesterday to see to your extravagant plans and I had the cook make more breakfast than usual."
"That is very thoughtful of you." Vincent said and as Quinn glanced at the plates of different delicious dishes on the table, she added, "Thank you, mother."
Queen Mother only smiled wider and Vincent picked up the plate in front of Quinn. He placed a bit of every dish on her plate then placed it back in front of her. She smiled at him as she picked up her fork. "Thank you."
He smiled back, "You do not need to thank me, Quinn. I want to make sure that you eat well."
"Ah, how sweet of you, my dear son. No wonder Quinn is so smitten by you." Queen Mother said again, making Quinn blush.
"Yes, he is such a gentleman and a very caring one at that." Quinn said in agreement.
"I am flattered that you think so, my Queen. I strive to always impress you." Vincent said as he looked into Quinn's eyes. She stared back into his and felt the smoldering heat from them. She felt herself leaning closer to him as he also leaned closer, it was as if something kept pulling them towards each other.
"Have you shown her your wings, yet, Vincent?" Queen Mother asked, snapping them out of their heated gaze.
Quinn realized that she had been so absorbed in Vincent in front of his mother and her mother in law. She shook her head as she thought that she had to get a better grip at controlling her desire for him. Vincent cleared his throat and took his gaze from her to place it on his mother. "Yes, I showed her and she was very pleased to see them."
